I wanna give a shout out to the CR Jefferson kids....we watched your show on the bus ride back and I was absolutely amazed with how clean the choreography was and the vocals were really good today. All the groups should be extremely proud of how they did today....!

Cedar Rapids Jefferson "Westside Delegation" Seriously blew my mind.
Just wanted to let you guys know that you guys rocked my world, for sure
hahahaha

Such a well run competition, great people everywhere.
Good job and thank you to everyone. Everyone who went was part of making my last competition ever amazing.

Congrats to ATSC on the GC. Way to turn it on for finals (though I'd prefer you have it turned on all day ) Keep up the hard work.

First off, I just wanna say how amazing this competition was. Honesty I never felt more comfortable at a competition. The atmosphere was great, the emcees were hilarious, everyone was so nice. It was just a fantastic day.

I got to East about 1:30 so the first group I saw in daytime was Vermillion. I missed all prep groups so I didn't take them into consideration on my predictions.

Non Finalists:

Vermillion "Rhythm in Red"
Ahh, the high school from the town I attend college. I was excited to see your show. I liked the opener a lot. I felt like it could use some more diction though. The blend in the ballad was fantastic. The soft section of the closer was very good. The show wasn't extremely clean but it was very fun!

Sioux Falls Washington "Classic COnnection"
This was my third time seeing you guys. I love the opening of the show where you just sing. The vocals are amazing there. But they go down after that. In the opener, 'need' is sounding a lot like knee. It needs a better D on the end. I really enjoy your ballad. But what I really love is the guys number. The crowd was with you guys all the way on that one. Hilarious and just amazing. What I noticed about this group is the guy sound is great but the girl sound is iffy. It makes for some awkward moments. I love the costume change. The white looks great on stage.

Finalists:

Ralston "RUSH"
What can I say? You guys are by far my favorite group of this season. And I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with some of you. Your show is honestly put togeteher so well. Daytime I felt the vocals were eh. But night time they came to life. Angela Gilbert. You are freaking fantastic. Hilarious and just flat out great. YOU GUYS. I've seen this show like six times, and EVERYTIME something changes. The changes from daytime to nighttime today were great. The changes at the beginning of If today were your last day... I actually liked it the old way, but the new way sounded great. THE NOVELTY IN FINALS. OH MY GOSH. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You had the audience laughing for LEGIT 5 minutes straight. A guy suggests a musical of Justin Beiber and one of you snaps his neck and he dies and everyone cheers. Best show choir moment EVER. Maddie Kalal, I love your voice. Carlos Silva, you are the best male performer I have ever seen. Angie Wagman, you own the stage when you're up there. You belong there. Diana, you rocked it during finals. I love you guys. Thank you for making this show choir season better for me. Congrats on your amazing season. Two GC's. Not bad.

Millard West "West in the Groove"
You guys honestly have the nicest parents around. No doubt about it. You guys dont have the racing flags for props anymore. I can't express how much I love the opening of your show with the costumes covering your face. It's a great way to start. The color contrast on the quick change is great, too. I really enjoyed "Fast". I saw it at urbandale and really wasn't a fan, but this time it was great. Probably cause I could actually understand it this time. The UPS/Bend and snap numbers are freaking hilarious. The audience was cracking up. Espeically when the guy threw the box into the audience and then told the person he loved them hahaha. It was great. The closer is so fun. It lacks vocals a little but the drummer is amazing and has great stage presence. I love your show and I am glad I got to see it again! Congratulations on your finish!

Johnston "Innovation"
Your hair HAHA. The evening emcee was obsessed with it. And for good reason. The opener was very clean and great vocals. I love your ballad. Very good vocals. I don't really like cold hearted snake/hot and cold. I don't know why, but I'm not a fan. I feel it brings your show down a bit. The closer is great though, except one of the guys kept pushing his hat down because it kept falling off. It was very distracting. Your finals show was better than daytime, especially the ballad. I loved it. Really there isn't much to say about your show. It's not overly "wow". But its great. Clean choreography, amazing vocals, and a good band. Nothing surprising about the show to give it an edge, but it's the kind of show you can watch over and over again and never get tired of seeing it. Congrats on the finish!

Johnston "Synergy"
Where did you guys come from? I saw you at Urbandale and thought you guys were way down this year. Then you guys just show up in finals and WOW. I didn't take notes because I didn't take notes in finals, but I love your vocals. So amazing for a prep group. Also the choreography was great. Your ballad. Ahh I love it. The closer is a good mash up and you guys perform it well. You guys did a FANTASTIC job. Congrats on the great finish!

Sioux Falls O'Gorman "Ovation"
A completely different group from Waconia. Wow. What I noticed about you guys was the fantastic diction. You can tell you've worked on it. The picture show is hilarious with great acting by the guy and girl. I love the throwing of the hats into the audience, except one almost took me out (thankfully the person in front of me knocked it down before it ended my life). Vocals were overall very good and well blended and choreography was clean! Congratulations on your finish!

Omaha Westside "ATSC"
Basically I saw two different groups of you today. Your daytime group which was meh. And your nighttime group which was HOLY ****. I don't know what you guys did during your break but it paid off extremely well. I'm glad you changed the opener (Remember I haven't seen you since your own competition). I liked the flow of it a lot better this way without the vortex things. Your choreography was extremely clean. Just a shout out to the extremely attractive redhead girl who is a great performer. Oh and to Austin Brady. He is a freaking fantastic performer, one of the best I've seen all year. Y'all Ain't ready... I love this song. The way you guys split it is perfect. And the ballad and closer in finals: wow. Daytime they were meh. In finals, I couldn't believe how great you guys SOUNDED. It was wow. And the choreo in the closer. Just wow. Congratulations on the grand championship. And thank you for kicking it into gear for finals. You brought the house down. PS. Shout out to the man who I talked to waiting to get back into the auditorium!

Cedar Rapids Jefferson "West Side Delegation"
You guys were dominating after daytime and for good reason. Your daytime show was fantastic and leaps better than the others. But your finals performance matched daytime, where as other groups improved. It was still a fantastic show, I just hoped for more. The white steps you put on stage.. I love them. They add a brightness to the stage similar to a fog machine but it's a lot easier AND it adds staging. A great look all around. The choreography in the opener was just wow. SUPER clean. In the second number, the girls behind the guys doing choreography was a VERY cool effect from the audience. I loved it. Ballad soloist.. holy crap. You are fantastic. Oh and the groups vocals for the ballad. LOVE. Guys number was very clean and entertaining. Especially the tall black man who ROCKED the stage all night ;). The costume change.... it was just meh for me. It looked good, I just didn't really get it I guess. I loved the "gloria" opening to the closer. Ahhhh the closer. During daytime, you guys tore the auditorium apart with your closer. The drums and cymbals you brought on stage mixed with the tap and amazing choreography during dance breaks. Holy crap. I was left speechless. It was extremely clean and just in your face amazing. Congratulations on your finish. Oh, and I sat by a set of your parents tonight. They were super nice.

As you noticed, there were 7 finalists. This is because of a mix up when announcing who made finals. People forgot that prep groups could make finals, so they announced 6 open class groups into finals. They then caught the mistake that a prep group (Synergy) scored high enough to make finals and were allowed to be in. So they were added.

After daytime, I had it:
1. Cedar Rapids Jefferson (Band)
2. Omaha Westside
3. Johnston
4. Ralston (Best Male and female soloists)
5. Millard West
6. Sioux Falls O'Gorman

Actual: (Correct me if I'm wrong, this was what I was told by a friend in one of the groups)
1. Cedar Rapids Jefferson
2. Omaha Westside (Band)
3. Johnston
4. Sioux Falls O'Gorman
5. Ralston (Best Male and Female soloists)
6. Millard West
*Synergy is in there somewhere, but I do not know where.

After finals I had it:

1. Cedar Rapids Jefferson (Choreography)
2. Omaha Westside (Vocals)
3. Johnston
4. Ralston
5. O'Gorman
6. Synergy
7. Millard West

For some reason, I had in my head CR Jefferson was above Omaha even though I gave Omaha vocals. And like someone very smart I know always says, who gets best vocals should win. If I would have thought about it more, I would have had Omaha in 1st.

Oh, interesting fact. Cedar Rapids Jefferson was in first after daytime by almost 30 points over Omaha Westside. That shows how much Omaha brought it during finals to overcome that deficit and take the GC.

I believe that is it. This competition was so incredibly fantastic. I plan on coming back next year.

Congratulations to everyone who participated today. It was great to watch you all.

And Sioux City East -- I love your show. I can't watch you guys sing Happy Days without smiling all the way through. Mr. Weber does it again.

Due to a bus conflict, Ralston and Millard West have changed time slots. Millard West "West in the Groove" will now go at 2:30, while Ralston "RUSH" will go at 3:00.

Beat me to it.

Now I'll get to see Ralston but not Millard in prelims. I love performing but I wish I could see every group!

Just making a point, don't count out Johnston Synergy yet, we have been underrated in Prep so far this year, and we got 4th overall and South East Polk. We were pretty close to finals at the other competitions. But I agree, the sixth spot will be a toss-up. I haven't seen Ovation, or Warrior, bit I'm lookin forward to it, I hear great things!!!! Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

P.s. Not trying to brag, just in case it came off that way, just putting another group out there as a possibility!
