Here's how Northrup broke the schools down by category based on number of members in choir. Championship(Large Group) level: Ben Davis, Carroll, Bishop Luers, New Haven, Woodlan. All other mixed groups compete in the Small Group level. Just found this out this afternoon.

Yes if your choir has more than 30 Singer/dancers you are considered a large group. i am very excited about this weekend. Good luck to everyone

Hey everyone! I'm really excited to get out and start watching groups this year!!! Being an alumni, I desperately miss performing!! Anyhow, I'll be attending the Northrop competition and was wondering how much it would cost to get in for the day show??? Thanks!

Oh, I thought you you were only picking Norwell becasue you are their assistant director. Isn't this you J-Jazz?

My predictions:
Middle Schools
Grand Champion: Memorial Park
2nd: Northwood
3rd: New Haven (not just because it's performance order)

Ladies
Grand Champion: Norwell
2nd: Garrett
3rd: Ben Davis
Vocals: Norwell
Choreography: Norwell
Instrumentals: Norwell (if they're eligible)

Mixed
Grand Champion: Ben Davis
2nd: Norwell
3rd: Carroll
4th: Columbia City
5th:Bishop Luers
Vocals: Ben Davis
Choreography: Norwell
Instrumentals: Norwell (again, if they're eligible)

Ben Davis and Columbia City are hard to place because they will be fresh out of the gate with mostly new choral programs. I based my Ben Davis predictions on what Mr. Cremeans did with Columbia City and that Ben Davis was good before he got there.

For the past couple years, Norwell having a small group has almost killed their blending. If they can blend better this year Norwell will win best vocals. I chose them to win best choreography because I have no idea who is the choreographer for Ben Davis. For this caption, between the two groups, I think it will come down to which group is less timid during their first show.

Has anyone noticed that all the groups are from the Fort Wayne area, save for Ben Davis? Just a random observation. Most of these groups won't be pulling early mornings and late nights.

I think the above quote has more to do with the trip costs and traveling in January & February. Many groups are having to do more...with less $$$. Besides, in Indiana, you never really know what kind of weather you'll have, so many groups don't want to go too far from home.

Absolutely right! Also, with Ben Davis' director being the former CC director, taking his first group out to friendly territory for him in their first contest is a no-brainer. Northrup's a good contest to start at. New Haven is ready to go. It looks like a strong field in the SG division so we're pumped.

Once again i went to see a Ben Davis Concert with a friend. They put on a show called a Cabaret were all competing choirs sang their sets and their were some solo acts. I MADE SURE TO KEEP MY PROGRAM because im sure i will see some names pop up as solo grand champions somewhere. Back to my orignal story, Ben Davis Premiers and Soundsations are excellent this year especially for it to be so early in the year. Both shows have EXTREME amounts of energy especially the closers. Soundsations are on a completly different level than in the past. I dont know if its the talent or if its their new director (whose name i forget). I just think Indiana should be ready for them because they definetly shokced me with their talent this weekend.

My Prediction: Ben Davis Soundsations and Premiers will WIN mixed and womens show choir divisions. Best vocals. Maybe best choreo. And im almost positive that if there is a soloist competion they will win that too. There were three soloists that just blew me away.

It is hard to make a prediction this early in the year. All of the groups are good. I don't believe that Norwell, or BD have competed yet this year. Carroll has 1 RU under their belt. Columbia City is always very competeitive too. The top three or four are a toss up. I would say who ever brings their A game will win. Big rivalries though, it should be fun to watch.

Your right, whoever wins, it is still going to be fun.

There's 2 BD's. Dwenger and Ben Davis. Ben Davis has the GC in the bag and Carroll and Norwell are gonna be fighting for 1st RU

Ben Davis is know to be excellent. Carroll did beat them last year in the ISSMA state comp...some judges put Norwell in front of Carroll last year too. Of course this is a whole new year. I think anything can happen. I'm not taking anything away from Ben Davis, I just don't know if I'd say they have GC in the bag. I am curious...have you seen any of these groups yet this year?

BD competed at Marion and finished 1st runnerup in SG in front of Bellmont and behind New Haven. They have a good show. It will be good to see our conference friends from Norwell and CC starting their seasons here. It should be quite a contest between us. In fact, the only schools from our conference not here are Dekalb and Homestead.
