Actually, I think that was 2004, wasn't it? I think Ankeny has since been going to UNL - which is on the same date...

Anyway - 2004 was a great year too - even with a winter storm that held some folks away. At least the weather looks clear this year!

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow - wish I could be there myself, but I can't escape from my work at the opera until Feb.

Actually you are incorrect. I really was talking about 2005 where the results were:

GC: Urbandale
1RU: Ankeny
2RU: CR Washington
3RU: CR Jefferson
4RU: WDM Valley
5RU: Waukee

Idk if UNL changed the date of their competition after 2005, but i definitely know what I am talking about.

Correct. That was the year "West Connection" was return champions to UNL, and placed second to rising star Ankeny.

yea the middle school auditorium isn't as big as others you could go to. but atleast the aisles are wider then most schools to get people in and out.

I agree. I remember when I went to see CR Jefferson, Ankeny, and Urbandale in 2005 I had to stand in the back because there wasn't a lot of seating! It was such a fun competition! I hope everyone has as good a time as I did there. Also, I agree with Mr. Temple. I have loved WSD shows since Eklund days (sorry off-topic)

Go Urbandale. Go WSD band.

How many seats does Johnston's auditorium hold? I remember it being kind of small, but it worked quite well.

The Middle School auditorium (where the varsity groups perform because it's bigger) seats 1100-1200 - somewhere in there, so it's pretty decent, and bigger than some - but as we all well know, there is almost NO space any more that can really hold all the people that come to contests today. Even some gyms get too crowded! The h.s. auditorium accross the parking lot (where the prep groups and smaller schools perform) seats 500-600 I think - and it is designed much better, but it's WAY too small to hold all the varsity crowds.

The problems I have always had with the space at the middle school is the height of the stage, the rise of seating in the auditorium, the stage lighting, and the way the seats are situated (example - sit in the front row on the very end, and you face a brick wall...)

I'd like to think that since they're gutting other spaces in that building and remodelling, that they'd include the auditorium (I suggest tearing it ALL out and start from scratch) - but I don't think that was included in the plans... oh well - I'm sure they'll have another building bond option in the next 2-3 years when they need ANOTHER elementary building!

i hope everybody loves the new cafeteria! its RIGHT next to the auditorium now so you wont have to walk down the hall. also, it was designed by a group that designs malls and stuff so its really cool- theyre going to have tvs in there eventually, but for the comp I'm assuming they'll put the projection screen up (hopefully!)

Also MR. Temple, I've never met you but I'm a huge fan of the work you do at Urbandale, I cant wait to see your group perform!

Come find me and say hi. Our home room is over to the east of the auditorium. If we're not performing I'm likely there or in the cafeteria.

I've always been a fan of WSD's shows ever since Dr. Eklund was there back in the day.

I never did see the complete list of judges posted. I suppose I'll find out tomorrow, but I'd be interested to see them today if anybody feels like posting them.

That does seem to be the most likely event. I dont know, however, how good CR Jeff and otehrs are, so it still might be a fight.
