Nevada doesn't have enough money to stay the night. So I think we'll be leaving on our little school bus at a ridiculous hour to get there on time. Oh the woes of a broke show choir...

to be quite honest. Pleasant Hill, Smith Cotton, and West Des Moines Valley are not close to the level those four are at.

I agree that they aren't quite at the same level, but I wouldn't say "not close." That implies that there is no way they could touch them, and I don't believe this to be true. Just wondering if you've seen PHill before? It's been different competitions both of the past years, but we did place 2RU both years. I guess we'll see how it goes this year!! There is stiffer competition this year so who knows!

i didn't say that Pleasant Hill wouldn't make finals. i completely agree that they will. i was talking about the girls groups from Mt. Zion and Sullivan. i think this competition is too stacked for them to make finals. Also the MTZ girls beat CR Xavier last year and Xavier could beat some of these groups. so really i just got confused after making this post!

thanks sparky for believin in us and sayin that we are a "highly charged package"! last year we didnt make finals there and we were totally bummed so hopefully this year we will make it. all i know is that we are gonna work friggin hard to get there.

Im going to have to agree as well, but I wouldnt count P-Hill out from finals. There has been a lot of improvement from them over the past couple of years. But, since this is our comp, I will make a completely blind and subjective guess:

GC: Mt. Zion or Sully
1st: Sully or Mt. Zion
2nd: Omaha or Edgewood
3rd: Edgewood or Omaha
4th: Mt. Zion "Les Femmes"
5th: Sully Girls or P-Hill

Havnt seen any shows, probably wont go that way, but seeing as ive been around most of these groups for 5 or so years this is usually how it goes.

Call me crazy.

i agree- dont forget about edgewood. i think it is potentially a toss-up between sullivan, mt zion, edgewood, and omaha westside...

to be quite honest. Pleasant Hill, Smith Cotton, and West Des Moines Valley are not close to the level those four are at. And while the Mt. Zion and Sullivan girls are always good... i just dont see them making finals...

Is everyone forgetting that Edgewood "Music Warehouse" is competing here?

The topic of Mt. Zion is interesting. I haven't seen them this year, but I 'did' see them last year and they were strong. The year before, they were...not good, yet placed well. MTZ isn't unbeatable to me, in fact, history shows that people beat them. Every year. They're certainly very strong, but I just can't put them on the same level as say...Clinton.

To me you have very strong schools, like EEE, Ona, DeKalb, Center Grove, Buffalo Grove, Prospect, Sullivan, ect (obviously I'm missing alot of them, but you get the idea) To me, MTZ fits in that category. They aren't an unstoppable powerhouse. There are only a couple of those around, one of them being, Clinton, in my opinion, despite opinions to the contrary. So who knows, any choir could come out on top. Mt. Zion and Sullivan have traded victories the last few years, so it'll be interesting. Or someone else might come out on top, who knows. Never say never at Troy!

I think it will a much bigger mix up than a for sure MTZ vs Sullivan bloodbath this year:

There is Omaha Westside
There is Pleasant Hill
There is Des Moines Valley
Maybe even Smith-Cotton?

I think it could really be mixed up with the addition of Omaha --- who will likely win Best Vocals.

P-Hill will not obviously beat MTZ, but theres a chance they might beat Sullivan? I think they have a really solid show.

And Des Moines Valley? they will be very strong as well.

Heck even Smith-Cotton is a highly charged package ---

It could go

MTZ
Omaha
P-Hill
Sullivan
Smith-Cotton
MTZ or Sullivan girls

or it could go

MTZ
Omaha
Sullivan
P-Hill
Smith-Cotton
MTZ or Sullivan girls

or it could even go

Joe blow -
Blow Schmoe
Schmoe go
Go fo'
Fo' sho'
MTZ or Sullivan girls

Mt. Zion and Sullivan will split one and two as usual (expect for last year when Mt. Zion was substituted for Clinton. Clinton won.) Troy tends to be the Mt. Zion versus Sullivan bloodbath...and I've heard they both have interesting shows this year.

Well, then just get ready to have a good time. Be sure that you see Mt. Zion and Sullivan. I'm sure you will be impresses. As for the rest, I'm not too familiar.

Yeah, Soundsational Singers (from Nevada, Missouri) are really pumped as well. I don't know how well we will do against all the bigger and better schools, since this is a stiffer competition. I can't wait!! I want to see all of these show choirs that I've heard so much about. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! I hope that we do somewhat good, so we can impress some people. But..just not letting anybody down would be awesome. This is one of our hardest competitions, and so I'm really looking forward to watching everybody. Latta!~Ash
