haha shane your such a dork!! But I can share in the excitment!! I cant wait.

I think its a great idea to critque the after the groups perform because its all of these groups first comp of the season. And it will give them all a chance to improve on what they didnt do so well. I mean I know the judges make tapes but most groups dont even get to hear there tapes. And if they get to hear the tapes by that time that they get to hear them they have forgotten on what they messed up on. I wish our group can get critqued. But since we perform after finals we wont have time. I sitll hope to see a big crowd even though some groups dropped out!! ONLY 4 MORE DAYS LOL!!

Well, You can't exactly cancel finals after 8 groups have already payed you to come to your competition and were already informed at that time that there would be finals. Also I know how much each of those trophies and awards cost. Im sure they have already been ordered and payed for by the choir boosters.

I think the onstage judging idea, although non traditional, is a great idea. It's somthing diffrent and innovative and thats what show choir is all about! I don't see how it can be pointless as some people see it to be. Personally I have never seen a show choir around this area (and none of these choirs involved) change their entire show from fall to winter. Iv'e seen added and droped numbers, set changes, costume changes, and new dance breaks, but never an entire new show. If that be the case then I beleive it's the principal that matters. To critique the show you just performed so you can grow as an entertainer to learn from mistakes. So that later if you have some of the same issues you can use the critique for refrence. The crituque also helps those groups that make finals so they know what the judges caught and what they can work on fixing before their 2nd performance.

Great idea Mrs. Weber and the rest of Excelsior! best of luck this weekend!

Justin

Ugh...

"In all honesty, critiques in the Fall are kind of pointless, since most groups don't use their fall show (or most of it) in the actual winter contest season. When I was a junior, our group met with a judge and he gave us ways to improve our show, but it was a waste of time because that was our last time performing the show. Plus on-stage critiques can get very boring from the audience point of view."

In our area at least, your show may change a bit- maybe a ballad isn't working right or the closer needs to be shorter, but most of us use that November show all year long. So the comments WOULD be appreciated.

We did this 4 years ago at Stow, and the judges were very quick and it wasn't too bad for the audience. We are all there to support our schools and show choir in general, so whatever will be, will be!!!!!

i disagree with TC Singer, taking the finals out would be horrible. Just cause it's 8 groups doesn't mean it still can't be a kick butt finals, i know a lot of competitions that do that, and i like the onstage critique idea i think it'll be fun for that and it'll be cool to hear what some of the judges think of other groups b4 finals. I'm so pumped for this competition! I can't wait!

I have some more bad news!!! Capital VIP's have pulled out of the comp because there football team has made it to the play offs!!  So we now only have 8 groups but they are all amazing groups!! So since we have so much time at this comp we have a new procedure!! At the end of every show choirs performance they will stop the clock and have a judge come up on stage and critque the group then after the judge is finished they will re- start the clock and let the group get off stage.  So I hope everyone likes our idea we had to think of sometime to kill all the time we have now!! lol But I'm sure the comp is gonna be amazing!!

Ugh...

If I was your director, I would just cancel finals and move the start of the contest a little later in the afternoon. I think you should still give placings and all that jazz, but it's kind of silly to have a finals with only eight groups.

The on-stage critique is a good idea, if you really need to kill time. Glen-Este/West Clermont used to do that, but they changed it a couple of years ago to having the group meet with a judge off stage.

In all honesty, critiques in the Fall are kind of pointless, since most groups don't use their fall show (or most of it) in the actual winter contest season. When I was a junior, our group met with a judge and he gave us ways to improve our show, but it was a waste of time because that was our last time performing the show. Plus on-stage critiques can get very boring from the audience point of view.

We may not drive there now, but either way, good luck with the contest.

I know how you feel, I miss it....but I'll be there cheering for my choir - the first ever RFTS champsions :-D I'm excited because since I've gotten to college, I've gotten through so much show choir withdraw....I watched a few tapes in the past few days, not even ones of my choir lol that's how bad I miss it....but I'm excited to see this competition, it should be a good pre-season show :-D
