as i have stated i wasnt there so idk, an woody has been known to pic songs an show design except in 06, from what i have been told by CP alumni. i will not say that NC sings in four parts al the time however many of their numbers over the yrs HAVe been in 4 parts for the majority of the show. it works an BD has had yrs with 4 parts as well. i kno CS had a yr wen the closer was 4 parts and was rewarded for it. i love CP they are very entertainin an do what they do very well. an i was NOT talkin about just this year for any choir. an i only named a short list of choirs who i know sing in 6-8 parts consistently. an i also said groups that sing 6-8 parts and perform well visually should ALWays come out on top esp since its 60% vocal an 40% visual. it should work out that way. but it doesn't many times. but this discussion is over from my part im over it. an i KNOW that groups had their best Possible Show at state with great vocals as well as visuals because thats what is supposed to happen so as long as point totals were close i can say that thats good. but if a group like WC who SINGS AMAZINGLY well gets tenth to other groups that cannot outsing them if they tried its a HUGE problem!

but im done

WC had a very down show. It was REALLY obvious that there were people missing. I mean immediately in the opener you see a girl in front dancing without her male partner, and if you looked a row behnd that there were 2 guys without their female partners. The vocals were not as strong as they Have been, and considering the simplicity of their arrangements, i'd guess they wouldn't have been a top vocal contender at this competition even if they'd had all their members... I Hate to say it because i love warren, but truth is truth.

They could have sang like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (which they did not... i had them 6th in vocals, dead last in choreo) and they'd still lose at competitions bc their choreo was not strong enough this year.

which is why i added the edit. FC was 2nd THAT IS A REWARD for great vocals. and if you think NC doesnt sing in 6-8 parts, you dont know CP or weihe. they won. amazing vocals from them. carmel, FOURTH also great. the rest of the choirs you named had great 6+ part vocals, but they didnt put on their best show. you cant reward for vocals if the visuals werent where they should be. judges reward the overall best show choirs. more than just vocals go into final ranks. so if a choir sings in 4 parts really well and is amazing visually they will do well than a choir who sings in 6+ parts well but isnt as good visually.

I would have liked to have seen Carmel again, I wonder what would have happened?...

STATE, what can i say? i was not there but i have heard from many ppl in many diff choirs and the consensus seems to be that it was good as far as choirs performing the best shows they could but judging seemed off. i find it disturbing that every year a group does well during the season and then for some reason at state they don't do well. I know carmel ahs awesome technique and good vocals so can anyone enlightenme on why they feel the ambassadors ddnt make finals?

also, why do the state judges always ( except last yr on 07) reward choirs that sing in only 4 parts and dnt have impressive dyanamic? groups likfe FC, LC, WC, Carmel, HN, ALL sing in 6-8 parts and dance pretty well too. yet those choirs don't get rewarded. is issma tryin to say they would rather choirs have only loud an soft dynamics with very little difference? and they want new style music? what happened to the choir part of show choir where the singing is important. I feel that a group that can put on a good show and sings 6-8 parts and does it WELL should ALWYS place higher then a group that doesn't.

Am i the only one that feels this way?

AMEN BROTHER!

the scores in prelims went
North Central-167.2
Bendavis-166.2
Franklin Central-166
Carmel- 165.8

The scored in Finals went
North Central-179.1
Franklin Central- 172.8
Ben Davis- 170

However on another note i just want to say congratulations to CP!!! U guys rocked your night show and improved by 12.1 points!! Thats a well accomplished and well deserved win. You were very professional to Franklin Cnetral and Ben Davis and you handeled yourself like a Sate Championship show choir should!! Im very impressed in the way your show was improved from Bendavis and am very confident in how you will do in New York

Edit: it doesn't matter

Congrats to everyone who competed at State!

LC i LOVE your vocals!!! Choreo needs a lot of help and the costumes are really odd, but the vocals were fantastic.

HELLO, EVERYBODY!!!

i'm in cp, and i just want to say that yesterday's competition at LC was the most exemplary exhibition of CLASSINESS from all choirs involved i have EVER seen! at one point i was in a group hug involving the coprez of ambassadors, and 2 FC girls, and i just realized I LOVE show choir! yes, i think that it is a given that if any different 4 judges had been judging 3 different groups would have been in finals...it all comes down to JUDGING, but really, for the performers, i truly think it all comes down to performing and entertaining...learning to take what the judges say with a grain of salt has been one of the most essential lessons for me, and REMEMBERING why we do this show choir is imperative. we LOVE to perform. and i truly want to thank everyone for being involved in this AWESOME thing called show choir, it's changed my life!

ps- i thinnk my main point was THANK YOU to all choirs at LC for being CLASS ACTS, you're all INCREDIBLE.

Well, class B was a great comp. and a great day.
All was well deserved, and everyone had a good time (because most of us were just excited beyond belief to ever have made it to a state comp!)
Congratulations to all, what a time
Thank you ISSMA and all who make this wonderful world of show choir keep spinning

if the scores posted earlier are correct, then carmel only missed finals by .2 points which could be any tiny thing that the judges thought wasnt right. it was close. its not like they missed finals by 5+ points. now THAT would be outrageous.

and how can you say that FC, Carmel, LC, and HN dont get rewarded for their vocals????? they all have GCs this year and im pretty sure they all have won best vocals at least once!!!!! and NC sings in 6-8 parts all the time and so they get rewarded too. your second statement has next to no grounds at all. you listed a bunch of choirs that had successful years and then said they didnt get rewarded. that makes NO sense

EDIT: and at state FC was second. thats a very good reward. and Carmel was a VERY close 4th. thats a reward. think about it.

Anyone who's a big fan of North Central's "The Devil You Know" might be interested in this video.

It's their 2005 version which showcases much much cleaner choir, and you can even tell how much better the vocals were on VIDEO. Oh, and you can watch it in high quality.

CAN'T WAIT for my dvd to come so i can post this year's "The Devil You Know" right next to the 2005 version.

It's nearly identical. The start off in a slightly different block during the transition into it, but other than that...

Edit: um, might help if i actually gave you the link...

Hey scott, I believe it was you who said you would put Franklin Central's 2009 show on youtube. Are you still planning on doing that? It would be awesome.

I just want to say that I have seen Carmel perform many times in the past... And they have received a lot of crap from other groups in the past, but this year they to me were the most inspiring group. They may have not been finalists at state but they shouldnt beat themselves up over one loss. How can you tell an undefeated group (lawrence central included) that they are any less amazing because they couldn't finalize at state? (they beat groups who have won fame) I also want to say that Carmel, for me, wins the most hospitable group. They have been so kind to everyone and they have shown show choir that its more than winning. Its about meeting new people, supporting other schools, having fun, and most importantly sharing their art. Carmel, LC, and others I want to thank you for sharing your art with the world yesterday. I LOVE THEM! GOOD LUCK TO THEM!

a) closer was a great, flashy number but it just didn't work for us this year. consistently, the judges were saying that closer was the number that was killing us.

b) that video is from the year end show at 2005. of course they're cleaner - they worked on that number for six months. we learned the devil you know in three hours at the end of last week. i would say we're puh-retty clean for having only learned it a week and half ago.

c) yeah, it's practically identical. it woody's choreography. he has the right to reuse if he wants to.

d) i personally think our vocals are stronger than 2005, plus my best fraaand has the solo so i think she absolutely rocks it!!

honestly, not trying to be rude or anything. i think our show is ten times stronger with the devil you know instead of closer, and i have so much FUN performing the devil!!

anyways... it was an awesome competition. i got to watch womens finals and was very impressed with both carmel and fc, but didn't get to see anyone else. can't wait to get the finals dvd! congrats to everyone!

i completely agree. a choreographer doesnt need to redo choreography for a number hes doing with the same choir. and the vocals were great. having learned that that quickly and performed it that well is amazing. great job CP

I missed North Central's show due to attending the class b mixed state. I heard they revamped their show, can anyone tell me how it was different. Congratulations to everyone who competed at ISSMA, everyone did supa tight!

they took out "Closer" (their 2nd number) and added "The Devil You Know." They also reordered a little bit doing "96,000" after "The Devil You Know" followed by their ballad "I Know Where I've Been." Then they did their bow, but had "Peace in the Valley" as a really long tag, lol but it worked.

So the order of their show was:
"On Broadway"
"The Devil You Know"
"96,000"
"I Know Where I've Been"
"Peace in the Valley"
