'Closer,' as far as I know, WILL be performed at our end of the year show on May 16 at 7:00 p.m. and we WILL have it posted on Youtube.

Although CP loves Closer, we are overall very happy with the change to 'Devil.'

p.s.- FC, you people are awesome! Good times while we were both waiting to crew the girls' choirs.

Yuri and I won't be able to make the May 16th showing and also want the live effect of it. We'll pay (in Sudanese currency) to see it during a private showing at FAME NYC.

Could Yuri and I have a private performance by NC of "Closer" arranged for FAME NYC then? ;)

Ah! We hated to take out" CLOSER". It was a hot mess vocally and instrumentally." DEVIL" happens to be one of my favs. It was a perfect fit for our show. The arrangement is vocally and instrumentally stronger than" CLOSER". Sometimes R&B,POP songs do not transfer well . We tried ! I went with "DEVIL" because, I knew it would worked. It had drama! I could teach it quickly! We learned it in 2 1/2 hrs!
We love this years set! Thanks for all of the positive comments! And TSCOTT, thanks for a wonderful response to the issue of us switching the show. Also, we did contact and got permission from ISSMA.

thanks,

woody

I do have to admit, hearing that North Central has removed "Closer" by Ne-yo from their show and replaced it with "The Devil You Know" really does disappoint me. I was just thinking that "Closer" would be a really fun show choir number, and then I read on this topic that it used to be in North Central's show. I will be seeing North Central at FAME NYC, and I always look forward to North Central shows because they are one of the only groups in the country who can pull off an R&B Hip Hop number like "Closer" (and last year, numbers like "Please Don't Stop the Music" and "Deja Vu"!). Any show choir could pull off a song like "The Devil You Know". I'm sure they will perform "The Devil You Know" wonderfully, and I know the song change was a judge's suggestion, but every one of the top groups competing at FAME NYC will have their own distinct style. And to me, NC's distinct style is their ability to perform the heck out of R&B hits. I'm hoping "Closer" will find it's way back into their show! But if not, I wonder if there are other R&B songs in their set this year?

For Yuri's sanity- I too will plea for "Closer" to be added back in for at least the day round show of FAME NYC.

Without getting too off topic can you explain by "having trouble keeping your numbers up"? I'm just curious about the size of your choirs with 1300 students at your school

for the past three years we've tried ramping our numbers up in order to get more power in vocals. we've pretty much exhausted all siblings and close friends from previous members; we're losing 22 seniors this year and chances of being able to replace them (especially the guys) is becoming a challenge. people here aren't finding interest in choir anymore when they can just take a study hall instead and sleep. congrats to the choirs who don't have that problem

we were cleaning up our auditorium today in class and found several of the lil sequins from dekalb's closer outfits...kept on remembering hunnington north last year where laff jeff's confetti wasn't totally swept up and two pieces were flying around during LC's performance. luckily (or unluckily, depends on who you are/how you look at it) they weren't in the way of ccity's performance =)

ISSMA, oh ISSMA.

The judging is just off. I'm not suggesting there's a conspiracy or anything like that, but the process for picking judges is strange to me.

For all of the qualification competitions the judges are almost exclusively Indiana show choir people, or at least work with Indiana choirs a great deal. And for the state competition it seems ISSMA actively searches for people that have no basis in Indiana show choir.

I'm not one to say which method is better, but I do think it provides for inconsistent results. Judges that work in Indiana are likely to have a different view than judges who don't. Either every qualification competition should use out-of-state judges or ISSMA should start using judges from Indiana.

Well I may be outnumbered!

I would have been excited to see the devil you know again...

Had it been performed as well as NC did it in 2005... But it just wasn't as good... I knew exactly which moves were coming up, when the band was going to have a feature, when the solos were coming and where they'd be on the stage. The choreo wasn't as clean (because they've had less time with it) and the Vocal sound was just not there like it was in 2005...

Sorry i was disappointed.

The show i saw from NC on saturday just did not look or sound like NC other than woody's choreo and "The Devil You Know". The vocals were NOT head and shoulders above the other groups like they usually are, the choreo was not as crisp as it usually is, and i think the changes to the "racy" choreo just made the show less interesting.

After BD prelims, i got on here and praised the CRAP out of your show... Saying it was the most entertaining no holds barred show of the year, and that if the choir could build the stamina to pull it off, they'd have a great shot at beating John Burroughs at Fame NYC.

Now i have no doubt that they won't come close.

6 idiots in a box shouldn't be able to decide that a choir needs to pick a new number...

When it comes to changing songs or even learning entirely different shows, as long as it's not against the rules, it is absolutely acceptable and ethical. A year or two ago we considered singing a different ballad in finals than we did in daytime just to mix things up some, as long as the specific competition allowed it. But competitions have to even be careful about setting rules about not changing the show between daytime and finals, because I know judges sometimes ask for things to be changed. Millard West from Omaha, NE changed the order of their show at the recommendation of a critique judge at a competition after in Sioux City 2 years ago and it ended up helping them earn a GC. While I am not intimately familiar with the Indiana State show choir competition, as long as it is not required to perform the same show you qualified with, I believe that changing your show is a very intelligent move if you believe the changes you make constitute an improvement.

Darn right BSCards5! It's great to hear you say that bout us. Let me return the favor -- in the past, FC has had the reputation for not supporting your girls group -- don't know why, but I could guess....yesterday, during the finals, even though you all knew you'd have to pull out your own HUGE performance, you were right there cheering and hollering with the rest of us. While there are still some of your members that look down their noses at the women (etphonehome....), the rest of the community has seen a big change. Keep it up!!!

Given that you've got one brand new director, and one director new to his position, the fact that you had a winning season in Indiana would have been amazing, but to dominate the way you did was, well AMAZING.

I too totally agree with music.choir.love. She is actually in our girls group. We loved everyone their. I was saying there was nothing else that could have went better on saturday except for us to win. Seriously we had the best show we have ever done, the competition was extremely hard, the judging was, in my opinon ver fair, the compeitition was very organized, and best of all, all the choirs were so nice and gracious and respectful. I have friends in many groups and we were all so happy. I LOVE North Central, shout out to PJ and Aaron some of my friends from there, but there is no one else i would rather lose to.

I also have to say, there has been talk about carmel how people dont like them or they are rich and stuck up and to be completly honest i was one of those people too. But Saturday, i have not seen such repectful, nice people in a while. after finals were announced i went up to some of them and they were so nice and wished us luck as i told them i how thought they were so good. Also during the finals performances, especially when our girls went, they were huge supporters and great fans, even giving standing ovations during the show. I was so glad to say i was in show choir all saturday.

i attended state all day and personally had CP in first
their show was amazing and deserved the win
i do feel that they took the easy way out, however, and the rules of ISSMA should be reevaluated..otherwise what's to stop a choir from learning two shows for a season and competing with one during daytime and the other during finals?

I struggle to see how this could be a bad thing. If a choir wants to take the time, risk and initiative to learn two complete shows to perform over one competition season, why not allow them to do so? If anything, it shows a dedication to teaching a variety of music and to getting the most out of students. To look at this approach as cheating just really doesn't make sense.

I agree with music.choir.love!! Especially this year, there hasn't been enough said about your great women's group. You should all be very proud!!

Don't tell anyone, but I think you all could've GC'd against ALL the groups there, and yes, I'm including your very own FC Singers in that statement!! They're great, but you girls ROCKED IT yesterday like no one else. I could've watched your show over and over......

Sorry, it has just been a long day and I am sick of nice guys finishing last [or in this case, second lol]. We had our best show ever, though, and for that we are proud. However, I agree the class system is jank. Dekalb and Plainfield prove that every weekend of show choir season. It's great for schools like Churubusco that are good but don't always make it to state but for schools like Plainfield and Dekalb that compete with the big dogs weekly it stinks. Maybe the class system could be based on top 18 or 24 choirs from the state? Top 9 or 12 go to Class A state and the next 9 or 12 go to class B? Only problem with that is there is no way of knowing beforehand who would compete in which so picking a school to host class B would be difficult.

I personally think Churubusco should have made finals.

END OF STORY

I am simply posting this because not much has been said about Women's Division.

CONGRATS to EVERYONE!
I was lucky enough to watch almost all the women's groups
[[considering I'm in one]]
and I believe it was great.
To both North Central and Carmel..GREAT JOB!
You guys were so gracious to us as we had our "time to shine"
This is the first year High Voltage has won Grand Champion at any competitions.
And to have the support from not only our own school, but from our "competitors" was so amazing. At the end of the day no matter what the scoring, whether anyone agrees with the judging or not..it was a great day. I feel, as a senior, that it's not about the placement, but the process. I cannot even count how many really good friends I have because of show choir.

And North Central-- WE LOVE YOU!
Both Counter Points and Descants..
High Voltage and FC Singers think you ROCK!
You guys made me cry as you were chanting FC's name during awards =]
the funny things was..people would expect us to be a bit catty, considering the line up.
And the thing you did in the lobby..was very lovely. You handled yourselves like true champs!!

You guys made it so much fun to be in show choir on saturday.

love always.
