I wasn't at this competition because I went to Teays Valley, but it sounds like it was pretty interesting. I have not seen St. Albans at all this year but I look forward to it after seeing these results. I have stated in previous posts that I am incredibly impressed with Hurricane's show this year and that they blew me away at Poca. However, if St. Albans performed better then they deserved this GC. Congrats to St. Albans & I look forward to seeing your show myself!

hurricane is good....st albans is good....but apparently st albans was better this past weekend...states will be interesting...especially since states is at HURRICANE!! hmmm my prediction for that is a screw job and hurricane winning States again....and it will probably be a top 2 putnam county school thing....kinda like last year..where capital shoulda won states with their jungle show, and yet they failed to do so b./c hurricane did...now i know hurricane was outstanding and is outstanding...but last year, cap was better, this year st albans dancing was cleaner, and vocals were top notch...just stop hatin on gale kennedy's classix...st albans has been good the past 2 years! no need for hatin!

here are my ratings of the ones I saw

Ravenswood- I though you all were pretty good. Better than other years that I've seen you..but you still need a little work.

St. Albans- Great! Vocals were pretty good. It was a good little show.

Nitro- Good Opener..I liked it. It was a good show...the girl's outifts were maybe a bit...obscene. But Good Job.

Herbert Hoover- VERY MUCH IMPROVED! I thought you all were much better than I remember. Great Job!

Greenbrier East- First time I've ever seen you, but I was pretty impressed. I thought you all were much better than I thought you were going to be.

Hurricane- As Always, You all rocked. I thought you all deserved GC...Everyone else I think did too.

Capitol- I thought the soloist in the ballad was awesome. It was a great show.

Congratulations to all competing show choirs.

Thanks for the compliment...im from HHHS High IMpact's back up band (the fiddle player)...you all were awesome...and i thought u were gonna win GC, but Gale Kennedy takes greatness where ever she goes...i remember st albans was really good last year as well, but this year they have the numbers and the vocalists...RED HOTS = My favorite show ever tho...we all love u as well as st albans, love the girl that does the flips...she is XTREMELY HOTT! and the quartet is what makes the show for me! i love it!

Just to kinda defend Hurricane's choreographer...I'm an alumni of Red Hot and I must say that Deanna Boggs McNeil (the choreographer) has really outdone herself this year and I really have to give a hand to her. Since 1999, Hurricane has won two state championships, not to mention the Best Choreography award at States something like four times. If you ever got to see Hurricane's choreography in the years past (99-2003), you'd see a dramatic difference in style. Hurricane's old choreography did not involve the use of risers most of the time...In fact, my sophomore year, we had no risers in our show. Deanna was able to, quite effectively, transform Hurricane into a riser show choir in the matter of one year and win a state championship against the likes of phenomenal show choirs like Poca, Winfield, Martinsburg, and Capital.

While I was not at the Capital Competition, I commend St. Albans for a job well done and it sounds like they were very deserving of the award. Conspiracy theories on director/choir/judge relationships ARE existent and I have no doubt that there is some validity in them...for instance...look at the correlation between the host (who gets to pick the judges) and the winner of WV State Championships since 99.

99- Martinsburg/Hurricane
00- Martinsburg/Poca
01- Martinsburg/Martinsburg
02- Poca/Poca
03- Poca/Poca
04- Hurricane/Hurricane

Not that I'm saying that there is a direct relationship between choirs/judges and the results of a competition, but it's just something to think about

i Was not referring to anyone i made a comment . The judge who are proffessionals saw St. albans as better so thats why they won, Hurrican is amazing i know but everyone has to be second someday

I am not sure if you are referring to my comment or not, but it is quite funny say to not make negative comments about St. Albans (which no one did), and then you go off and do the same. Watch to preach and not practice! To clarify, I do think St. Albans did a great job, I said they were deserving. I was simply just stating my opinion, which I am entitled to.

BTW - Didn't Hurricane win Best Choreography? haha

All I know, I have never seen such a great competition in Virginia before, I hope my group goes back next year!

y'all don't hate anything can happen>>>> st. Albans was really good and they had something the judges saw that the other groups didn't have or they lacked

Congrats to st. albans

I wish everyone would lay off of St. Albans. They did an awesome job for their first time out. I highly doubt that St. Albans director helping with Capital had anything to do with it. Hurricane has awesome vocals but the show itself lacks substance. the opener is awesome but that is it. The rest of the show, especially the Tradition song arent that good, and i still havent figured out why someone would tap dance a madonna song. if they had a different choreographer they would probably win a lot more. they almost got beat at poca's musicfest too. a lot of people forget that st. albans director won a WV state championship when she was at Poca, so it doesnt surprise me she is doing good there. Congratulations St. Albans!

Having Hurricane come to Manchester will be very interesting. All I have to say is that I believe that both Dale, and Hurricane deserved higher placings than they recieved. Although, I am not a judge, so I have no right to talk. Great job to everyone that competed and as far as the groups that I watched, they were all very good.

Hey Everyone. I just wanted to say congrats to all groups at the competition! You all were amazing!

Hurricane, you guys are by far the best show choir I have ever seen! I am sure you guys must practice a heck of a lot, to achieve such greatness! Your director is one of the most talented directors, and it shines through your show! Your choreographer is amazing as well, and that definitely was a well deserved Best Choreography! I honestly thought GC was stolen from you guys, such a disappointment!

St. Albans, I must say that for a first year show choir, you guys were phenomenol. I think it definitely showed in some of your show though, that this was your first competition, and I think although you guys are deserving, you should be very grateful for GC.

By the Way...not to stir up any gossip (lol) I thought it was kind of interesting that St. Alban's Director...was Capital's Show Choir Instrumental Director, just last year...if that's not group affiliation, I don't know what is. I think some loyalty was definitely showed this year, which is a shame. However, I think most people see what went on, and I we all know who the real winners were!

As for the rest of the show choirs, keep on, and keep singing from your heart! I enjoyed you all, and good luck to all of you, in your future competitions!

hey everyone this is Brittany Fortner from Matoaca "High Impact" and "Up Front". I just wanted to say thanks to all of the Dale kids and Bird kids for being so supportive of us this year. It really helps to know that you have 2 awesome show choirs backing u up. Anyways, the Capital VIP competition was awesome. Hurricane-u guys rocked the house no matter what the outcome was. I was just wodnering how many times a week do ya'll rehearse and how long is each rehearsal? St.Albans- you guys also did great, but it seems like parts of your choreography was the same as some of the other show choirs, but u guys definitely presented it the best. Dale-like always it was awesome. congrats to the girls for 1st place. u guys deserved it. Bird- it was definatley an improvement from Dale/Bird/Matoaca night, but i can't really say anything about vocals b/c i say u guys on the tv and the tv always sounds differnet than the real thing. I luv all of u guys and u did great. Matoaca- well, we worked hard and we did our best, but their is still room for improvement. We have a good chance at winning the Powhatan competition since we're in a lower class than the others, so work hard this week and keep ur lucky ducky in hand.
