He said when he posted it that he didn't see Fairfield...so obviously, he left them out...what's the big deal with that? If he would've put them in 6th place because he didn't see them, that would've been worse. Had he seen Fairfield, he'd probably put them in there. What you are saying makes no sense, as he is probably doing a favor to Fairfield by not placing them at all, had he placed them, it would've been on name and nothing less, as he didn't see them....

No, Findlay's 42nd street reminded me exactly of Manchester & Carolina Spirit's "Alexander's Ragtime Band". The same moves that made the audiences cheer back then still made the audiences cheer yeterday... The same exactly moves. I totally agree w/ ShowGazer29, very well put. (But I love me some Andy numbers from time to time, they are so needed, just not the whole show, i love rock & pop numbers also)

And to that other kid who finds my comments questionable, Why? Fairfield went first, I got off work at 7, the trains are all under construction, i missed them. That is it... (That is why i havent mentioned Fairfield at all...) And i left immediately after edgewood cause I knew half of the judges and that they would judge correctly and I had places to be.

I can only hope that you never have an opportunity to judge since you are basing your opinon on five performances when there was six. That is my only point and I am done with this issue!

Greece Athena was extremely far from being a normal show choir and I dont think should even have been allowed to participate.

Why? Because their show was different, or because you didn't like their style? They must have done something right to get second place. Congrats to all the choirs that participated and placed, including Greece Athena.

tapping and the typical Andy Haines show aren't bad, they've just been done to death. and perhaps these are delusions of grandeur on my part, but i'd like to believe that a medium which i devoted time and energy too, and contuinue to love watching to this day (i'm speaking of show choir), has a lot more to give than what has been perfected more than a decade ago.

i acknowledge that groups like Findlay have the possibility of being extremely technically clean and, particularly vocally, can make a startling impact, but as an audience member i much prefer to watch a creative, interestingly-choreographed number (Fairfield's amazing opener, "Crazy") rather than see something that has been rehashed across the country for goodness knows how long.

See, here's what I don't understand. You say that Findlay is extremely clean and makes a vocal impact (as a comment: I have not seen Findlay at all; I can't comment on their show, just the style that's being discussed), but you're willing to hold against them the fact that their show has been done before. Innovation and creativity are great, but in the end, it comes down to how well you can sing & dance, and (apparently) Findlay can do that very well. There's a reason why traditional shows are traditional and are still being done - in many people's opinion, they are the best medium to express a group's vocal and choreographical talents. Maybe the reason why we've seen them so much is because they simple are the best type of show in a substantial amount of people's opinion.

I LOVE Findlay's show this year. I'm not really sure why tapping and the more traditional view is all of a sudden bad..... but whatever. I'm really excited to hear what Dr. Eklund had to say about you guys. Congratulations again on the well-deserved win. It really is an awesome show!!!!!!

Jay you are my new best friend. I thought I was alone out there in the world. I love Findlay's show(s). I like Andy Haines' choreography (so shoot me! ). I like the traditional style shows, not to say I don't like contemporary shows. I like contemporary shows, but how many times are you going to perform Unwritten, Who Loves You?, etc... It gets a little old sometimes. Just my thoughts....

See, what I found interesting about Findlay's show this year was that of course it still had the same style as old Andy Haines shows, but Andy put in a lot of extra stuff to make it really a whole new show. It's really only the closers that Andy will rehash but he makes it different every time so no ones shows are ever the same. For example, I was pleasantly surprised to see the tap break in 42nd Street. It had parts of the typical Andy Haines tap break but was changed to make it extremely exciting.

I think a big reason a lot of people don't like to watch these traditional style shows is they choose to not like it. I was really not a fan of the typical Andy shows back in the day when I only got to see Cedar Rapids Jefferson do his style. My mom and I always talked about who we liked the best in Cedar Rapids after we'd go see Fab 5. My favorite was always the more contemporary Momentum (out of the box for their time while in their prime) and Jefferson wasn't ever my favorite. Until 2003. I allowed myself to enjoy Jefferson's show at Benton's competition because I didn't go into the competition with any preconceived notions as to who I thought would be the best. Since that thrilling performance I have been very interested in their mid-90's reign over the midwest. I love every single one of those shows, and all that have come since Dr. Eklund's era. I had to actually sit down with an open mind before I realized how great the shows actually were. I believe that if people wouldn't come into competitions with the thought process "Oh Findlay has the typical boring traditional show we have all come to know" and instead say "I'm really excited to see if Findlay is able to pull off their style with the strength they always have" then I think people will appreciate them and their style more.

Greece Athena was extremely far from being a normal show choir and I dont think should even have been allowed to participate. Findlay was by far better nthan everyone else. No one hit their level of prefessionalism... and im not even a normal findlay fan... they deserved everything though, and im glad the judging went the way i had expected. FInlay totally was by far the best, even with such an old style of show that I usually discourage (andy haines groups). They deserved everything, go Finlday! (from an Attache fan)

I apologize but I cannot help myself from not responding to this post. If I recall, based on your previous post you DID NOT observe Fairfield's performance so I consider your comments somewhat questionable.

Congrats to FAME on running a first-class event as usual. Excellent judging, great facility and a really special atmosphere for a competition. To Carroll, congrats on a very good season. Even though you took 7th yesterday, Jill and I are very proud of your work this year. God Bless, Damon
