True. Clinton IS a great choir. I mean you can't beat "Drove All Night" in 2003.

2004.

It was just his prediction guys... No apology neccessary Bo... As far as the comp. goes it will be interesting to see how busy this thread is around the time placements are announced!

Burroughs Ballad is sooo entertaining. Best ballad i've ever heard. wait until you guys see it.

It's Just my opinion people. I know that what I say comes off as rude and arrogant, but I just get mad when GREAT choirs lose to choirs that are mainly working off of a name rather than real vocal quality.

True. Clinton IS a great choir. I mean you can't beat "Drove All Night" in 2003. Even my beloved Counterpoints in 06 could not have beaten them. There I said it. Happy?!

As I said earlier in this forum, this competition is impossible to predict. It's just my opinion that Clinton is not at it's best this year. I could never be certain that NC will win or Clinton or JB. Noone could.

Sorry if my messages have come off bitchy or whatever. I was just stating my honest opinion. Not everyone agrees with me, and that's alright.

Sorry to those who I have offended. No-one in current Counterpoints agrees with me. Its just me. Only me.

Best of Luck to everyone. honestly

I would reckon that none of these groups want early season versions of their shows online with more than a month to go before this event. Let's save some of the suspense and magic for the live show - it's bad enough that we already know what songs everyone is doing!

Videos are a cool way to reminisce on a show after the fact, but I certainly don't want my first experience seeing any choir to be from a terribly compressed YouTube clip. Have patience, grasshopper.

lol i hate waiting.

lucky for me i get to see Hart's show live in hawaii here in a few weeks.

No choir executes their choreography any cleaner than Clinton (talk about perfect!), but it should also be appropriate to the style of music, and effectively highlight or enhance the text. And at the level of these choirs, I want to see staging and movement that is unique, that pushes the envelope and that adds to the art form.

i agree with both of those statements.
Remember though last year... Visual Adreneline was the favorite with the tight and perfect choreograohy
and Burroughs won showmanship last year, so who knows!! it will be an excellent competition none the less!

Sounds like quite an expensive endeavor! You mentioned all the additional expenses...just out of curiosity, what do they pay judges for a Fame competition like this? Anyone who has to judge a loaded competition like Fame Chicago should be compensated well!!

Agreed, talking to Damon at Kennedy he might have to be rushed to the hospital

I think you've underestimated the potential gross. If we brought our group it would be 50 singer/dancers, 14 combo members, and 10 crew. We also usually allow any upperclassmen that are in our prep group to come on national trips, so you can usually add another 5-10 people for that. So we're talking about 80 people total or $20,000 just from one group. You can probably tack on 3 directors and 5-10 chaperones.

I'm guessing they're more likely to gross in the neighborhood of $500,000 if they pulled 30+ groups. And all of that is before all the parents and show choir fanatics pay $30-$50 in admission.

They still have to pay for the hall, promotions, judges, full time Fame staff, event staff, transportation/expenses for all of those folks, etc., etc., so that's not all profit. Even half of it in profit would be pretty good though if they can duplcate it at just three or four of their events (Chicago, Branson, Orlando, NYC).

i'm sure it could happen, but i just highly doubt burroughs will take best choreography from clinton ... or that anyone else will for that matter ... they are so solid, clean, and sharp in their choreography that they are next to impossible to take down in that respect ... i don't even know the last person to do it

QUOTE(Jorge @ Feb 26 2008, 10:20 PM)
I don't agree. I refuse to predict this competition until I see all four groups live... but I do believe that John Burroughs has such innovative and vibrant choreography that is so much fun to watch. It also could be described as "solid, clean, and sharp". I feel if anyone was to win the "BEST CHOREOGRAPHY" award... it would be Burroughs.

I believe Petal won Best Choreography at Sullivan back in 2003, but Attaché still took Best Vocals and the Grand Championship. It might've happened more recently than that. Before this past weekend, it hasn't been a factor.

BotheMusical's attitude and opinions do not reflect those of the current North Central Counterpoints, the ones that are competing at Chicago. We as a group are very excited for this competition and know that it is by no means an easy competition. Clinton will be VERY good, no matter if they lost last weekend or not(who cares if 'the era' is over? They're REALLY good). The other groups are also very talented, and just to be in finals would be an honor.

Please don't take the opinions of alumni to be ours! We DO very much like other people and want them to like us! Show choir is about entertainment and fun first, competition second.

See you at FAME!

Thanks for posting this! I was like hmmm good first impression of North Central... lol. Glad to have that proven wrong

Agreed!! Clinton is AWESOME every year and I know that every choir going to FAME will be working their butts off all season.

BO---If you really love counterpoints, you will stop posting those comments, because you are making EVERYONE look bad. You should be embarassed.
