i know that this isn't my place to be commenting but while fairfield's band beat HN in the afternoon show HN actually beat fairfeild's band in the night show. I'm in the Hn band (varsity brass for a correct name for you) and we lost by 1 point in teh afternoon and won by 1 in the night show. we were so excited since fairfield is such a good group. and I saw a bit of LJ show and, well not to bash LJ or anything but u need to tell ur band that it is more than drums and a screaming trumpet because that's all i heard. ohhh and a random note to anderson HS, donno if u were there o r not don't remmebr but I LOVE YOU GUYS SINGING SWEET DREAMS. one of the best performances when you guys did that. at our home comp. I was helping run the video room (if you guys saw me let me know and give a shout out) and anderson was the last one because had to go change and i stayed just to watch the first song since i love it so much.

If memory serves, they didn't win a GC in '04. This is when they competed at Pike, Lawrence Central, and North Central.

You would be correct, I believe!

and if i am correct (which someone should prolly check this) isn't this the first time in the groups ENTIRE history they haven't walked with a grand champion this comments about them and admit that it was their off year and that they are still great...but until then i stand by my word.

If memory serves, they didn't win a GC in '04. This is when they competed at Pike, Lawrence Central, and North Central.

EDIT: That would be the "All That Jazz" "Saturn Returns" "Sgt Pepper" year.

Yeah so this competiton was amazing and I felt...well...HONORED to make finals. There were sooo many fantastic groups there!

My favorite = PROSPECT.
I loooooove prospect's show. And I think i've read this somewhere on here already..but whatever I'm gonna say it anyways.. after seeing them at huntington and then again this weekend...they improved SOOO much. You can really tell when a group has a lot of heart.
You guys were AMAAAAZING..and all (the people i met anyway) so nice!
I'm really upset that it was your last comp this year.

Anywho.
Congratulations to Huntington.. i love you guys too!!! (michelle && alex :>> )

it was an awesomeee day.

so columbia city had a weekend off... and bein the show choir junkie that i am... me and a couple friends went to the comp.

so not gonna lie... i was a little surprised that fairfield didnt win. but ya know how 1 pt can be. i just thought that since they got best vocals, they would win. vocals are a little more important in my opinion. i mean anyone can dance, but not everyone can sing. BUT ANYWAYS, their show was just amazing. i was super impressed with their ballad.. i got chills. now don't get me wrong, congrats to huntington north, they are also a very impressive group but that's just my opinion.

to norwell... you guys are just kickin butt this year. way to dominate...especially the girls. undefeated to my understanding. i'm really proud of you guys. you totally deserved that win. and norwell mixed--i'm just so impressed that you can have so few people and just go out there and compete against the "big dogs." and STILL do good. congrats to you too.

highland-- your show was my favorite. it was so much fun and upbeat. you do great things with that show and it's very effective. i was pretty surprised when you guys didn't place as high as i thought you would, but it was hard competition. again, though, LOOOOOVE the show! congrats!

prospect-- omgosh... your choreography is amazing! i was in awe when i was watching you. i mean to have over 300 people in your music program just amazes me. but you're fantastic.. keep up the good work. loved your show too...very original. you usually don't see "it's my life" as a ballad.. but it was great. =)

ok well im done for now. haha! congrats to everyone!!!! congrats to all the soloists too! greeeat job! =)

Don't put words in my mouth, kids! Read my post again, I never said she didn't deserve it. I don't care how tired she was, or how many groups she's in, I'm just saying based on her performance during finals I don't know how she won (compared to the second and third place performers).

Try not to read so far into things!

what is there not to read into? Saying that you don't know how she won compared to the other performers implies that she doesn't deserve it. I think that even a fairly intelligent garden hose could make the connection between "don't know how she won" and "didn't deserve it in my opinion." You are completely entitled to your opinion; I'm not trying to say you're not. But you have to understand the similarities in the two statements above.

this was a very good competition...everything ran on time in daytime and the groups were EXCELLENT.

but here are my thoguhts on the competition....

Huntington North-CONGRATS on ur GRAND CHAMPION!!!! I was very impressed with u (though i have seen u multiple times this year) and i thought u kids were great. i knew it had to be close between u and fairfield so i didnt even try to guess to see who it was going to be. but i dont think i have to say much for u cause i have always thought u guys were amazing and i really cant tell u much more than that. u r one of my top 3 fave show choirs of my entire life and i think u dont need to hear me tell u how good u are...mainly becaue i have done that in numerous other posts and if u dont know...I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

Fairfield-you are simply amazing. i was speechless after ur dayshow and thoguht u would win hands down. night time HN stepped it up so i didnt even pick. but u guys were AMAZING!!!!! the entire show is awesome as well as the special effects and everything...GREAT JOB!!! i just want u to know u have nothing to be ashamed of getting 2nd place...ur show was amazing and i just think u should know that u are one of the most outstanding choirs i have ever seen and i applaud u for an incredible show.

Norwell-u r possibly the greatest small group that can compete with big groups that i have ever seen. WOW...ur ballad was absolutely GORGEOUS and i was so happy for ur 3rd place finish...u totally deserved it. though it had to be close between u and highland...u guys rock!!! and ur girls group....AMAZING...i love them...CONGRATS on an undefeated season for them and agreat season for u guys....u are AWESOME NORWELL and i will be always cheering u on.

Highland-ur show is AWESOME!!! the entire thing just is amazing. i thought last weekend at Huntington North u were going to win...but u got 2nd which is nothing to be ashamed of. ur show just made me smile and i love that Anderson Highland is coming back and is going to be awesome. I remember the days of when my older siblings were in show choir and Anderson Highland did 42nd Street...amazing...i definetely see u guys becoming a powerhouse again and i can't wait till u are!!! u r all so nice and taleneted!!! great job yesterday.

Prospect-YOUR SHOW=INCREDIBLE!!!!! u guys rock my socks off!!!!! what a great show!!! just from Huntington north to this week at Homestead u all improved so much!!! i sat there thinking "holy crap...they are doing really good!!!!" u guys were excellent and i was so proud that u placed as well as you did at very tough competition.

Lafayette Jeff-when u were setting up the stage, i got really excited...i couldnt remember if it was ur "Magic" stage or ur "Elvis" stage and i was expecting one of those great shows...well not those show exactly but something of their calibur...so as i sat there waiting and wathcing, u all came on and i got all excited...and then it died. it was NO WHERE NEAR the "Magic" and "Elvis" shows that i remembered. u guys deserved the place u got....ur special effects were AWESOME as usual, but using those to cover up ur weak vocals....that's not cool. and i know everyone that reads this might flip out and be like "oh u just hate LJ" well i dont. i had 2 cousins in that program and the group was excellent then. but i was so dissappointed. i think everyone in show choir world has a blind spot for Lafayette Jeff since at one time the were teh premier group in the nation, but now...well i think the results speak for themselves. LJ is one of my favortie choirs and everyone can rant up and down how they should have placed higher, but they were weak this year...no questions asked. and if i am correct (which someone should prolly check this) isn't this the first time in the groups ENTIRE history they haven't walked with a grand champion this year?

And i do have to say, if anyone thinks there was politics in the judging at Homestead causeof LJ placing, u r absolutely wrong. If u listened to the rest of the groups that were there adn saw them, LJ was lucky to make finals. LJ is a good group...but that's all they are now is good. When the amazing vocals come back and LJ can prove they are the best, then I will retract all of my comments about them and admit that it was their off year and that they are still great...but until then i stand by my word.

Oh and ZIonsville, i was surprised u didn't make finals..oh well. U guys are great and keep up the good work!!!

but overall this was an AMAZING competitoin. everyone was so pleasant, fun, and talented that it made worth my $10 to be there...congrats to all the groups that competed!!!!

They weren't THAT bad. Just because their vocals were weak doesn't mean they need to half-ass everything else to balance it out. In all honesty, they actually did half-ass their set (it was reused from the 1998 "Magic" show). Have you ever seen a LJ show? The band is always very powerful. I was close to the stage and I didn't notice any major blending issues with the band. As far as the fog machines; again, typical LJ. They were loud, but they were used for maybe 10-15 seconds max during the whole show, nothing even worth mentioning.

I believe the set was actually a modification of the 1997 "Elvis" show. The "Magic" show had the big backdrop and an open front riser formation. I do agree with you that the band was very powerful. They always seem to have such tallented players in that band. Edgewood had a huge band, but for the size, they didn't play that much better than LJ. Edgewood even had a professional trumpet player, right? I don't remember LJ ever having a professional band. Was there some politics in the judging at Homestead this year? LJ had a fantastic show, granted the vocals were weak and a few of the girls fell on the slick stage. At least their music wasn't written in praise of themselves like many people are saying about CG Soundsystem ("I don't wanna show off"). LJ had some really great charts this year. Hope they place better next year. Congrats to the Tech crew and parents for setting up that HUGE set within the time restraints.

I do believe that LJ's band is made up of students and they've always been really strong. Also, what's with the ragging on CG Sound System this year. If anyone has ever met them, they are very nice kids and are just out to perform well like every other show choir. Their closer "Show Off" is actually one of the big songs from the musical "The Drowsy Chaperone," which was nominated for several Tony's. I've seen at least two other groups one being Ceder Rapids Jefferson, Westside Delegation do the song too. For some reason people think CG has created this song to talk about themselves and their style of show choir and that's just not the case.

Thanks so much to everyone at Homestead!!! Derek and Megan, you guys were great hosts!!! You always kept us laughing and having a good time!!! And Derek, thanks for trying to calm me down at solos...Even though it didn't quite work! Haha! But thanks anyway!! This competition was so much fun!!!

QUOTE(TCSinger @ Mar 18 2007, 01:15 AM) 395159
I also have no idea how the one girl won the solo contest, maybe she just wasn't performing as well during the exhibition.

To the above statement...You have a right to your own opinion...However, every soloist works very hard to be the GC and Melissa really kicked it yesterday! It is very stressful to have to do four shows in a day, and then turn around and perform your solo twice...Time does take its toll on people! So whether or not you thought she deserved it is completely fine...but before posting something like that, be sure to also acknowledge the fact that she worked just as hard as everyone else to grab that GC!

Sorry for retaliating, but I have to stick up for my girl!

to the above person^

The girl who won the solo competition did an amazing job during the daytime. So when you say she didnt deserve it you have to take in consideration how many shows she had already perfomed earlier. She is mixed and girls group for norwell so she had just performed 3 shows and was perparing to go to warmups as soon as she stepped off the stage.

Melissa you did awesome and i luv ya!
