I would like to thank everyone at Onalaska for making this a great day. I would also like to congradulate GCS on their win. They have a great show and preformed it very well. Also I wish i could have seen Mt. Zions show I heard it was amazing. Congrats to Prairie Focal Point on your 1st place prep we are proud of you. Thanks again Onalaska.

I thought I remember one of the years in the recent past that the time overage point deductions were applied to Mt. Zion - resulting in them placing 4th or 5th in prelims (but really with the 1st or 2nd raw score) - and then, with no time penalty in finals, they ended up winning. Does anyone else remember this?

I remember that time too. That wasn't the time I was referring to though. This was when I was in high school... eons ago.

I'm really surprised that they actually applied the DQ points towards the final prelims score. I can remember personally timing Mt. Zion at an Onalaska "Classic" in the past, they went over two minutes from the time the parent on the side said "Go!" to the performers. They didn't receive DQ points that year.

Its sad. I'm not really much for time penalties of epic proportions.

Mt. Zion did absolutely great yesterday at Onalaska! The penalty was extremely unfortunate but i love that they were so gracious about it! Can't wait to see them later this year at Wheaton Warrenville! Gooooo Vintage!!

Thank you to all of the well-wishers from the Onalaska Competition and a special shout out to the group who said "We wish we could give you our spot in finals." That was especially heart warming, but you guys deserved your spot.

Needless to say we were very dissapointed in our time penalty, but as it has been said, we did deserve the penalty. We did set up an additional 12 risers and having been there before we should have done it better.
I feel especially bad for our kids as they put on an amazing show and did everything they were supposed to do.
Congrats to Seth Myers and Hannah Lake for representing us so well in solo comp and to the rest of our kids WE are very proud of your first comp set this year!!!!
The good news is "there's no place to go but up!"

Uhm mt.zions point penalty was 150 points. That was enough to put them at last. If it was only 100 they could have been in finalss.

I'm am not sure if this was meant as an opinion but this statement is not correct. The point penalty was 100 and it put MTZ 7th. It would be responsible if people posting these results and making comments were people who actually had the information. The internet is a great place for a voice to be heard but you must state your opinion as that...an opinion. Then it becomes factual reporting. I have seen several comments from people who were not even at Ona post hearsay as fact. When you start doing that, you are chipping away at your own reputation and soon people will not believe anything you say. As we start this show choir season it would be great to make a new year's resolution to make sure that what we say is accurate and factual when we are reporting the events of the weekend.

Thank You!

I would agree with Mt. Zion deserving the penalty, but it is very sad. They were easily a favorite of the day, and it was a huge disappointment with them not being in finals. Everyone around me was in complete shock, because we are all used to having Swingsations in finals at Ona. They had an amazing show in the day performance ( they could have done better, I think they were holding off a bit). Choreography wise, it was very clean for being early in the season, but I don't expect anything less from Swings. Vocally, it was sound throughout the performance, the energy did seem to die down in the closer a little bit. Then again it is the first competition, and yall will figure out the little problems.

I am very interested in how that box worked in your 4th number... it was "magical", although none of you would tell me how it works. The ballad was another typical amazing Mt. Zion ballad, emotional and powerful. Opener choreo and vocals were great, loved the 2nd number. The closer energy died down a bit, maybe it was nerves or something, it seemed a little off to me. Anyway, yall will always be my favorite choir, and I always look forward to seeing you dominate! Have a safe trip home.

Hilltoppers were another favorite of my day. I absolutely LOVE your show. I'm quite jealous we didn't get angels last year... but oh well. Every performance was better than the one before. It's hard to focus on the amazing solo on the top riser or the amazing dance solo on the floor by Holland and Madeline, Save a Hero is great. Hero is my favorite number of the show, the key change drives me NUTS, couldn't stop smiling, because its so powerful! The ballad is amazing. The key change is outstanding. Dalton and Gabby fit perfectly with the solo's... Gabby's riffs are to great! Villain Medley, is great all around. Take Me To The Other Side, has been stuck in my head since Friday night, love that song!

Poor MTZ.

I would say "Poor MTZ" except they absolutely deserved their penalty. They really didn't have much to set up at all, and girls were walking back and forth across the stage for minutes. The set was GREAT, and it seemed a normal length, but the setting up and tearing down was incredibly slow. Mt. Zion has competed at Onalaska MANY MANY times and I'm sure knew about the time limit rules, so really it is no one's fault but their own. Holmen and GCS were two groups I specifically remember who had much more to set up (lots of added risers, lights, and/or backdrops) and they did more in a timely manner and obviously they got no time penalty.

Poor techie who fell onstage and guy from Holmen who fell off the risers. The stage was REALLY slippery today and there were people flying all over :-/

From what I saw in the day round, finals ended up how they should've gone. All the groups were really fantastic, I enjoyed all of the shows so much. My personal favs of the day were Mt. Zion, CR Prairie, and GCS. Mt. Zion was absolutely brilliant choreographically, and they sang very well too. I personally would've placed them first after day. Cedar Rapids Prairie was my personal favorite show. This was the best choreography I have ever seen them do and it was the cleanest Ambassadors show I've ever seen. The song selection was fantastic. Just so much fun to watch.

GCS.... you were fantastic. I am so glad Mr. Esser is back. There was just a level of sophistication, elegance, and precision that is so hard to match, and you will be a huge threat at all your competitions this year!

Thanks to the hosts from Onalaska. Met some REALLY nice moms at the ticket stand, and talked to one of them for awhile later. Everyone I met was so nice! I had a blast.

Directors know beforehand what the rules are regarding time limits on stage. There should be no debate because you signed up for that competition so you deal with the consequences for going over in time

Congrats to GCS for their win. They've always been a great show choir.

Do we have any more information? Points? Solo competition?

Thank you!
Congrats to everyone for a wonderful first competition of the season
