Now i understand why albertville is more theatrical.

I am enjoying albertville's vocals but where is the show choir dancing? It is more theatrical than show choir which is why i think they should have 2 types of competitions. But i am enjoying it.

But what really classifies as 'show choir dancing'? There's just so many different styles of dance.

All groups were overall awesome.

After prelims I have it: WWS, Homewood, Petal, Oak Mountain, Appling.

The thing that put WWS into first was the fact that out of all five groups, The Classics seemingly were the only ones to use dynamics, and use them consistently. Homewood and the rest of the groups were generally just LOUD and my computer speakers didn't appreciate it..

I think that it is close between Homewood and Classics after prelims, and because of the "home field advantage" (southern competition) I wouldn't be too surprised if Homewood was in first.

Another note: I completely agree with the interesting Clinton-influence that all of these groups share. Did you see Petal?? They literally had the same costumes that Attache did last year.. All I can really say is that nobody in the south has beaten Attache in a long time because they are all trying to copy Clinton. A copy is never as good as the original, and Attache will remain undefeated until someone decides to take a different approach to southern show choir.

Also, just an observation, it seems to me a lot of the southern choirs have a veeerry similar style to Clinton (also southern choir, so I guess it makes sense). Darker show concepts, guitar riffs out the wazoo, vowel placement, April James, among a few other things. A little strange to me (but then again this is the my very first view of a southern competition) I do have to say its a bit off-putting. Of course these are all just personal opinions.

I somewhat get what you're saying. But only speaking to the show concept piece, I wouldn't characterize Clinton as consistently having "darker show concepts." Sure their 2011 and 2013 shows had a lot of that in it, but 2009, 2010, 2012 weren't really all that dark. So 2 in 5 years? I think that's a common misconception with Clinton and that it overshadows the other shows that they've done recently.

Wheaton was ok. But i was not impressed. I have seen them perform better.

I really enjoyed homewood. good job guys.

I think I would agree. I wouldn't be surprised if Homewood comes out on top in prelims, but it's definitely a whole different ball game in finals. And Wheaton's show concept this year proves that. Should be interesting - I'll be curious to hear if you're impressed after Wheaton's finals performance.

This live feed is wonderful! I love Homewood's show! Wheaton wasn't bad either. I hope they stream finals!

Best. Thing. Ever.

But really.

Anyways, kinda unfortunate how the schedule was blocking the live feed through Wheaton's opener.

Also, just an observation, it seems to me a lot of the southern choirs have a veeerry similar style to Clinton (also southern choir, so I guess it makes sense). Predictions based on me giving maybe 60% of my attention to the live feed:
GC: Wheaton (BC)
1RU: Homewood (BV)
2RU: Oak Mountain
3RU: Petal

Those are the only groups I've watched

Petal did turn it up. Cool performance. I think they've done the best rendition of "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" so far that I've heard this season.

Also what is with these ProCat DVD commercials?

Although not overly impressed with any visuals yet. I think you can tell it's "early" in the season for these Southern groups. Unless these last few groups turn up the intensity, I don't see anyone catching WWS in respect to choreography.

That's the Petal I remember. And I think they bring up the visuals end

I'm starting to get the feeling that this is an up-year for a lot of southern groups!

idk about the director, but was that titanium as a ballad. and acapella?!?! intersting to say the least. Very bold and creative! I hope the judges liked it

I agree with both of you. Very cool and unexpected to see that acapella. Overall I think Oak Mountain had really great vocals. Hard to judge from a live stream, but I kind of hoped the director would've done more with Titanium. Perhaps I'm just stuck thinking of Ankeny's version last year. The song choices by Oak Mountain were really great too. I'm a fan.

I daresay a Southern Powerhouse has been born!

Watch out Wheaton Warrenville--Oak Mountain came well-prepared (quite surprising to me)!
