Looking at the list, I realize I know very little about most of these groups, even though I recognize the group names and their schools' mixed groups have strong reputations. Really all I know is that Lights and SoundFX are always really good and that Company has gradually improved over the 7(?) or so years they've been in existence.
If I understand correctly, some Single-Gender groups contain some of the mixed group's members with additional students added in, while other groups have no personnel overlap between their mixed and Single-Gender groups. I know there are some of the latter, I assume there are some of the former as well. Can people shed light on which groups are which? seems like a good starting point to start making Single-Gender placement predictions.
I am from Franklin Central, and i dont know about the other groups, but our groups dont mix people. You are either in one group or the other, if that helps. The only other group that i have heard of that is going to be there is Buffalo Grove, and ive heard they are good.

Lights made finals at Chicagoland in 2008. We did compete against Sound and the other 4 groups in finals and came in 3rd place overall. Sound came in 5th place overall. Chicagoland changed the rules for last year so that the "prep" groups can no longer make finals. Instead they have the winner of the prep division perform an exhibition before finals begins.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know there was a rule change. That's interesting, I can think of some good arguments both for and against that rule change.
Anyway, thanks everyone for the info and for setting my facts straight!
I'm pretty sure it was Center Grove that pulled their girls' group out of finals in 2006. In 2008, Mundelein Lights and Sound both competed in finals, and Lights ended up beating Sound and getting third overall.
I'm sure I'm setting myself up for embarrassment by questioning this, but isn't it technically the top 6 scoring groups from the entire day, regardless of class or division? I believe it was 2007 that Mundelein Lights were placed into finals, but (according to the version of the story that made it through our home room) they chose not to compete against their own mixed group and that allowed Prospect Mixed Co to eventually get the 6th finals spot.
I believe it was Burbank's girls that chose not to compete against their mixed group. Maybe 2006 or 2007.

In 06 I know that this happend with Center grove's girls group. They did not compete against their varsity group but performed in finals.

The single gender champion will not be included in finals. They perform before finals. There will be 6 varsity groups in finals.

Prospect is about 5 minutes away from Hersey, Palatine is 20. In a world where bus rides can last hours or even days (I'm looking at you Orlando!) All the 214 and 211 choirs have "home field advantage."
its just like when any Cedar Rapids choir competes in Cedar Rapids/Benton. there is gonna be a huge crowd supporting them
The 6th finals spot could definitely go to Palatine (especially after their success here last year) or Fort Atkinson as well, but Prospect's home-field advantage (same school district, right?) might just help them in some way or another.
