Director of the DHS Jazz Choir, Advanced Treble Choir, Madrigals, and Concert Choir, Dr. Karen Gardias, received a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baldwin- Wallace University, a Masters from Maryville University, and a Doctorate in Music Education from University of the Pacific. Dr. Gardias began her music career as a professional harpist performing throughout the U.S. She directed orchestras in North Carolina, Texas and Missouri prior to her accepting the position as the Orchestra and Choral Director for Davis High School in 1993. Chair of the Music Department, Dr. Gardias currently teaches and AP Music Theory in addition to four choirs at Davis High.
Dr. Gardias was honored by Yale University to receive their Distinguished Music Educator Award in 2007. Selected as the News 10 Teacher of the Month for Northern California, Dr. Gardias has also received the Harmony in our Lives Award, the Yolo County Striving for Excellence Award, and the Hal Reid Award for Excellence, Caring, and Leadership in teaching. She was recognized as a Grammy Outstanding Music Educator Nominee.
