Christopher Brewer has been a freelance choreographer for show choir and musical theatre for 14+ years. His hometown is located in Clinton, MS where he developed his love for the arts as a singer/dancer in the Clinton High School show choir, Attaché. Christopher began his choreography career in 2008 as a sophomore in high school helping local schools with their show choir programs. He has choreographed multiple dance groups, show choirs, and musical theatre programs around Mississippi, Iowa, and Virginia with a special interest in the styles of hip-hop and swing. In 2016, Christopher had the wonderful opportunity of working with The Southern Experience Show Choir Choral Camp at The University of Southern Mississippi as a choreographer clinician where he had the chance to not only engage with show choir students around the South, but also with other dance and vocal instructors from around the U.S. His choreography has won multiple awards over the years, including “Best Choreography” and “Best Visuals.”
He is working on completing his Ph.D. at Kansas State University where he studies criminology, specializing in the areas of technocrime, cyberdeviance, hacker/hacktivist cultures, and policing. He works as a Graduate Research Assistant, interviewing cybercrime personnel about their work across the United States.
Starting Fall 2022, Christopher will be an Assistant Professor for the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences at Illinois State University conducting research and teaching in the fields of cybercrime and research methods. No matter the topic—dance or higher education—Christopher plans to continue his passion of teaching, keeping student growth at the center of his work.
