I would like to thank everyone who attended Raise The Roof! Saturday. It was a fantastic day, minus a few problems...all on my part. I have listed the actual results of the day below. There were some clerical errors (again, on my part) that resulted in some erroneous announcements during the daytime awards ceremony. My apologies to the directors and students involved. I assure you that we are taking steps to prevent such errors from happening in the future. If you have thoughts on how we can improve the day, please let us know! We hope to see you next year!

I believe that our group is preparing to make finals, so hopefully you will see us that night again...we have been working extremely hard...can't wait to see the iowa shows again either...happiness was extraordinary at davenport

Hey! You're from Manteno! I LOOOOOVE you guys!
Your show is INCREDIBLE this year! It's a bummer we won't see you this weekend at Quincy...but I heard you're going to Herscher???
It's OUR last competition of the season.

I wish you ALL the best of luck until then!

Happy show choir-ing!

Just a question, why did Waterloo West(which is bigger than Xavier who was inthe 4A class) get an award in the small school division instead of Seward who didn't even get a participation award? Can anybody shed some light on this for me. Thanks

i go to waterloo west & it was an accident we got the trophy taken away and it was given to seward.. they accidently mixed up the school names a guess? but they did get it!

I know that Mr. Reese had the actual order that it finished, with Johnston 1.5 points behind Xavier.

Composite points between Xavier and Johnston were as follows:
Xavier: 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1
Johnston: 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2

I believe Xavier's two second place ratings (as well as both of Johnston's first places) were Chris Fettig and Chad Alexander... but that is not for certain.

The only other scores I know are that one of the seven judges had Xuberance in 4th place. One or possibly two (can't remember) of the seven had CR Jefferson Ovation ahead of their varsity, Westside Delegation.

I just want to give a shout out to Storm and the rest of the Kennedy Show Choirs for hosting another fantastic competition. This is one of Xavier's favorites and we were glad to be there.

Johnston I didn't get to see your show but I heard it was definately worth seeing and I hope I get another chance to see you all (where else are you competing this year?). You were such a classy group and I really enjoyed competing against you all.

Jefferson- Always fun to compete against you guys. I love your soloists and look forward to watching your show next year. On a somewhat side note. Ovation you truly are an amazing prep. I have been sceptical somewhat of labeling you the best prep in Iowa but I think you are definately my number 1 after seeing you again at Kennedy. I mean you even had one judge put you ahead of WSD!!! Thats quite an accomplishment.

Congrats to everyone who competed and I just want to say awesome job xubs!!! First time ever in finals and a runner up finish in the prep division. I'm so proud!!

As a parent, It was my first visit to Cedar Rapids. Cedar Rapids must be the "show choir capital" of the US. So many good groups in one city is amazing.

The facilities were very nice and everyone was professional. I don't think the persons that laid out the home rooms expected 3 of the finalists to be in a single cooridor across from each other. Both Xavier show choirs, and Manteno were pretty cramped trying to get ready.

From a pure entertainment point of view, Xavier was hard to beat Saturday night. Very good. Ballad was incredible.

I really enjoyed the Queen medley...was that Seward? Nice.

I saw WSD at Davenport and really thought they were much better. I thought they would be in second.

Ovation is prep group. I keep telling myself that, but I never believe it. Just incredible that a schools "second group" is that good.

It's good for our kids to go to Iowa and get an "eye opening" view of show choir and how good it can be.

Thank You for the incredible "show choir experience"

On behalf of Jefferson thankyou for the kind words, and thankyou for brining Manteno to Iowa! You guys rock!

Seward-

Wow I can't believe how good their choreography was for having two of their members choreograph the whole show.

Some brief thoughts on the competition:

Ovation - I got the chance to see your show twice and I thought you put on two great shows. I didn't get to see WSD, but after hearing you were one point away from them after the day round, I thought you might have pulled out the victory when I saw your night show. You do not act in any way like a prep group. Congratulations on your fantastic placement.

I did not get to see Innovation, but from what I heard from some crowd members, this competition could have very easily gone either way. I saw a little of your show on the television, and mentally prepared myself for 2nd place. The ballad soloist is phenomenal.

But the biggest thing I want to say - XUBERANCE! First time in school history Xavier has put a prep group in finals! We were all so happy for you guys. And we could tell you had a blast on stage doing your show for the last time competitively. By far and away, it was the best Xuberance performance not just of the year, but the best in school history. You should be proud!

All in all, it was a great day of show choir and a great day of Xavier show choir. First time in school history we have won multiple GC's in a single season... first time having multiple groups in finals... plus six caption awards on top of all that - against some extremely stiff competition - we were unbelievably excited. Congratulations to all groups!

I will echo Greg's question and ask why Waterloo West placed in the small school division? That's one of the biggest high schools in the state so I was pretty certain it was a mistake when they announced it, but they never corrected it. I also felt bad for Seward not getting a participation award...

Also as usual I will ask if anyone has scores from finals or the day round? The only scores I heard from the day round is Johnston was 11 points ahead of Xavier, who was 7 points ahead of Jefferson. However those are raw points scores - which were converted into rankings.

The people that I was sitting around were making me angry because they were so disrespectful. I was sitting next to Trey, and we heard a kid laughing quite loudly during WSD's finals performance. Whether that was at WSD or not, it was very rude.

yea im so new to this thing but im lovin it even tho i dont know how to work it so i would have quoted someone from earlier when they said the thing about the rude and obnoxious people but im from manteno and yes, we do have a very different show we have big hair and pink jackets with shorts but we're like every other show choir who devotes a lot of time and patience into their show and believes in it 100% so it is not fun when you show up to a competition and you have people calling you and group members names and giving dirty looks there should be a respect level that people should think about when attending these competitions.

p.s. the cookies were the best!

I totally understand what you are staying! i 100% agree with you!
and for some reason i didnt feel like everyone respected other groups or people.
Im not saying names or anything, i just think it should be a fun thing to be apart of!

p.s. the cookies were Amazing!!

p.p.s Thanks for all the good words about Ovation & Westside!
