Is it best choreography or best visuals here?

I could maybe see Ankeny pulling out a sweep here. Their vocals are nice this year and choreo is amazing as always.

Prediction:

GC: Ankeny (Sweep)
1RU: ATSC
2RU: Jefferson

Then again ATSC is undefeated this year. I could see this one going multiple ways. Either way, I think this will be a close one, I definitely don't see a sweep

Are choirs possibly only assessed a penalty upon their band score if they have recorded elements? Like their band still gets judged but if you have recorded elements you automatically lose 5 points off of your band score Which would then have a negative impact on a groups overall score. I know some places do it like that for prelims but then dont assess the penalty during finals.

That could be the case, but I highly doubt there are many (any?) groups singing with a track at the Nationals level. If you're talking about samples being used during a show, that would get extremely difficult to "judge" unless you just banned all synthesizers (which would eliminate several groups from participating).

Show choir bands are a really difficult variable to deal with, and you either need to make extremely strict, all-encompassing rules (only students allowed, no synthesizers, etc.) or you have to pretty much just accept anything.

Right, okay. Well that makes sense... so while well-intentioned, Jonathan's comment won't hold true here as the band's capability won't be taken into account in the final score. And to be honest, unless you make a rule stating that all bands must be comprised of only students, I don't think band scores should.

It's on the score sheet, but points are only deducted for recorded bands.

Do band scores even factor in at a FAME competition?

With them being national events and having so many different types of choirs (with all sorts of rules over who and who cannot be in a band), I'd be surprised if that was part of the total.

I really think that it will come down to who gets best band.

Random Predictions that will shake things up a little:

GC. Ankeny (BB,BC)
1RU. Omaha Westside (BV)
2RU. Keller
3RU. Cedar Rapids Jefferson

I really think that it will come down to who gets best band. I think that Ankenys choreography advantage of ATSC is the same as ATSC's vocal advantage over ankeny. so BB might take this one as long as it is one of those two groups. Who knows though. I know that Keller has a story show so they may even steal best choreo. Is it best choreography or best visuals here?

Any groups make it yet? I know that ATSC is already down there and are just roaming the parks. This will be a great competition!

Hmm so any predictions yet? It's coming up this weekend. I think it's going to be a pretty quality competition.

Predictions
GC: Westside "ATSC" (BV) (BB)
1RU: Ankeny "Visual Adrenaline" (BC)
2RU: CR Jefferson "Westside Delegation"
3RU: Keller Central "Voices of Central"

I know only the top three advance to Nationals, but according to the schedule Orlando #1 will be taking four finalists. Those are my guesses, but it could most definitely end up a lot of different ways. I placed ATSC as GC, because they have been having a stellar season and have the most impressive victories compared to everyone else. Ankeny is also having a good season and I have only heard good things about their show, especially "Titanium" ... I think they will do well. CR Jefferson was bested by Ankeny once this season so that's why they're 2RU and Westside Delegation hasn't finished worse than third this season. Keller Central has only competed once this season and got 1RU. I give them the nod, because they have the very last performance slot so I think they could slip into finals. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Norwell or Shepherd Hill contend for that last finals spot as well.

Any other thoughts? After all, I'm really not super familiar with the Iowa/Nebraska groups.

Orlando, here we come! A shout out and good luck to Ankeny High school for it be the last competition with their show choir ever! Can't wait to see you guys perform!

I never even thought about that. For those of you who don't know, Ankeny High School in Ankeny Iowa is splitting into two different schools. Ankeny will stay but there will be a new school called Ankeny Centennial High School. I wonder how this will effect the vocal program. Could it diminish Ankeny's success? Or will it just create another Iowa powerhouse?

This FAME would be really awesome to go to.

Ankeny is fantastic this year.
Westside is undefeated.
Keller Central is amazing.
And there are a few other amazing groups here I would love to see.
