The first part of the opener is Kaleidoscope Heart by Sara Bareilles, and then it goes into Come Cover Me by Nightwish.

Does anyone happen to know who Clinton's opener is by? I believe the song is called Kaleidascope.

I can't really imagine anyone choreographing them besides Mike. He helps the show and story flow so well. I think more than one choreographer might mess that up. I also noticed when the emcee was introducing Albertville, he said they had a "theatrical director" or somethimg like that. I can't remember the exact wording. Can someone from Albertville explain what he or she did?

Johnny Brewer is the theatrical director. He is a director at two community theaters in the Albertville area and had a son who was in CenterStage! that graduated last year. He stepped in to guide our characters (mainly young Pandora, Medusa, The Ringmaster, Pandora, and The Creature) as to how to best portray their characters within the limited timeframe of 25 minutes that we get with show choir.

As one of his theatre scholarship students and someone who has acted in his shows for years, i can testify to his wonderful abilities.

I've always tried to encourage Mr. Rains to make some phone calls to some Burbank and John Burroughs choreographers.... They seem to incorporate a theatrics and show choir with a lot more success in the show choir criteria that a lot of judges feel the choir need to meet.

The choreographer he would need probably wouldn't take the job.

Again, I'm from Albertville but not associated with the group so I can't say much but the theatrical director does a lot of theater work with a local community college here and had a son I believe in the choir a few years back. He (as far as I know) provides all the insight and direction for the theatrical part of the show, which I guess is self explanatory. Hope that kind of answers your question.

I can see your point to a certain extent, but i think that with story driven shows like Albertvilles, you would walk a razor thin line using more than one choreographer. Mike and Mr. Rains work together to make the story into something that will convey to an audience that watches it closely. When you throw in more and more variables, in this case choreographers, there is a much higher chance of your show looking segmented and "planned" instead of a live event happening and showing you the story in real time.

EDIT: i meant to add this at the end of my original post "CONGRATULATIONS!!!! To all groups that competed yesterday!! It was a fantastic competition and i had the privilege to see some truely awe inspiring choirs!"

I see your point but Clinton usually does a pretty effective job of conveying a story as well with their long list of collaborative choreographers.

I had an amazing time at Petal this weekend! I was very shocked and proud of the caliber of the groups in the middle mixed division! Very tight choreo, very strong vocals, excellent show designs, and VERY entertaining performances! I was pretty certain as to how the placements were going to be. Clinton-Thanks for being such a classy group of students/parents/band members/etc. Mr. Fehr.... it was great seeing you again! GREAT show! I love the concept and vocals! (especially love the special effects of the stair case)
South Jones- PHENOMENAL JOB, guys! VERY PROUD excellent vocals and choreography. Oh yeah and ballad girl..... SING IT!
Albertville- after I watched your show again in finals I understood it quite a bit more (especially since an Albertville alumni was beside me to help me lol) great vocals and energy! A lot going on at once; however, the talent that was on stage was amazing!
Oak Grove- extremely proud of how you stepped it up from prelims to finals! I definitely could sense the fact that you guys worked your butts off in the warm-up room! Amazing vocals coming from that stage!
West Jones- I am extremely proud of everything you guys have accomplished this year! You guys are a great group of performers! The show design is very entertaining. Love the backdrops/costumes! For only having 11 or so guys, you guys sounded excellent!

I've said this several times over the course of the season but let's PLEASE try to remain classy in this community! Although we may not fully agree with everything someone posts on here.... let's remain friendly and classy as show choir is a professional sport in my opinion. Love to all! It was great seeing everyone this weekend!

Clinton's vocals were WAY better this weekend than last weekend at Homewood. And I love their opener a lot.

Albertville was 10x better in person than on youtube. To me they should've gotten 1RU. And I loved the costumes in the 2nd song.

South Jones did a good job of capturing in the audiance and making us all have fun and enjoy watching their show!

Oak Grove's ballad is still one of my favorites overall.

I agree! Clinton's choreo is flawless because they have so many people worth with it & make change to make it cleaner and more impressive. Any group would be wise to learn from this.

I'll probably catch flack for this but it's just an opinion. I think it would benefit Albertville greatly to bring in someone to collaborate with Mike. If you look through past years, a lot of moves and ideas are used over and over again, even though storylines change. I also don't find jazz kicks appropriate for this particular dark storyline. Again, just an opinion.

Congrats to all the groups in attendance!

Just wanted to clarify that Soloist final from Pearl River Central, Central Attraction was Skylend Roussell, who took grand champion soloist!

And that Pearl Central is actually Pearl RIVER Central High school

Small mixed:
3rd- Pearl RIVER Central "CENTRAL ATTRACTION"
2nd- ????
1st- West Jones

I've been thinking about this for a while. I see why Albertville's show wouldn't score well in a lot of people's mind. The opener and closer are phenomenal vocal wise and choreography wise. But the core part of the show is SOOOO focused on storyline. And obviously, a show choir score sheet doesn't include categories like that. We have the liberty of giving our personal opinions based on whatever we want. They have to abide by a set of specifics. Albertville has taken theatrical to a whole new level this year and it's easy to see why some people (especially judges who are all basically pioneers of show choir) aren't used to it and don't know what to do it. I stand by what I said regarding vocals... But that is just all my personal opinion.

Ok, now that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

Adults don't need children speaking for them. He is an adult and so am I. If he wants to confront me about it then he can. You're not an adult. You may be of adult age, but you're not an adult. You're a spoiled little immature brat who thinks he's entitled to everything in the world. Always have been. Always will be.
