I have been told that the tenor part that everybody says it too high in Loveland's show is actually the bass part and they have been trying to get it fixed but you know with basses and singing high.

I think that note can be very affective. I didn't hear their ballad in finals but I did in prelims and I was pretty impressed with it personally. I don't think the ending would have been as powerful without it. My biggest problem with the ballad was their lack of breath control and articulation at times.
All of the groups were truly wonderful. The placements could have been switched in a number of different combinations and would still be valid, I think. Marysville is one of the groups that has made me fall in love with show choir, they are truly spectacular. But I was also really blown away by Loveland. They have really stepped it up. Loveland and Marysville have competed with each other several times already, and I can't wait to see how Nashville turns out!
Peace!!!

Does anyone remember ALL of Lovelands show? I know Voodoo Doll and Runaway Baby, but I can't remember the others. I'm hosting them on Saturday and I'd like to decorate their home room accordingly.

Thanks, Patrick, for all of your wonderful updates throughout the day. YOU were the Crystal Classic discussion thread today.

If you have free time, you should post some overall thoughts from the day or by group. I'm sure the SCC would love to read them... or at least I would.

Hahaha, just saw this.

Overall, everyone was literally fantastic. I've seen Marysville, Loveland, Edgewood, ETC, and Grove City earlier this season and I must say, AMAZING IMPROVEMENTS from every single group. It's amazing to see such an improvement as a whole. Having just graduated, I never really noticed how large the difference between first and last competitions are. It's astonishing. I can put a few comments from each group though.

Carmel - Literally, in love with your opener. Stuck in my head since Saturday. It's extremely beautiful and soloists were fantastic! The second number soloist was amazing. She was perfect for it. That number reminded me of your 2011 number 'Be Italian' with the whole sex appeal working for it. The rest of the show was really good but the first two numbers definitely stuck out in my mind. And on another note, kudos to your sportsmanship. I was sitting behind you guys during Marysville's daytime show and before they went on you guys were cheering for them yelling "Go Swingers!" or "Save the Swingers!" One of the nicest, most sportsmanlike things I've seen a group do for another group. We truly appreciate the support Best of luck at Lafayette and Wapakoneta!

Loveland - I've seen your show about 4 times and it just gets better and better each time. I love the energy you have each time your perform and you can tell you really love performing and you all just get so into it. There are times in the ballad where it's a little out of tune and the ending is really cool but I feel that the tenor's tone is a little forced. Though I love the song choice for it! You guys definitely have my favorite version of 'Runaway Baby'. The beginning with the one soloist and four ladies is a cool effect as well as when he comes back and raps with a megaphone. I thought your daytime was stronger but there was really cool stuff in this show. Best of luck at Teays Valley and Nashville!

Marysville - I love you guys. Definitely my favorite Marysville show of all time. From vocals all the way to visual effect, it's heart melting. I had you a few points above Loveland but that's all up to the judges! This is the best I've ever seen the show. I'm super jealous that I graduated last year but what are you gonna do! Haha. You guys had me crying at the first note both daytime and nighttime. I really don't have much to say since I've told you all already. But I'm super excited to hear what people think after I put the show up on Youtube in a few weeks. Best of luck at Lebanon and Nashville!

Poop. I have class. I'll edit the last three laterrr.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 2013 Crystal Classic! It is great to see such nice things said about the event and the people. As a volunteer, it makes us feel good to know the hard work is appreciated. But, I have to add, it is the performing groups that make the event special. It is fantastic to work an event this size and come away so very impressed with the behavior of our guests. Your smiles, courstesy, please's and thank-you's were evident in every group. A very special THANK YOU to our friends from Dekalb. They were chosen as the first ever winners of the Spirit of Crystal Classic Award. In this very difficult time for them, they blessed us all with their warmth, smiles and personailty. I cannot think of a better group to receive this inaugural award. Thanks for inspiring us all!

See you next year!

Thanks to all the directors, students, and loyal fans who made it out yesterday! We really strive to be one of the best out contests out there and will continue to do whatever we can to make it be THE competition you want to return to!

Oh, and Kyle- glad you enjoyed the show... I have to give kudos though as well to Josh Greene, Randy Sage, and Stephen Todd, who join me in our creative team!

Let me start with oh my goodness. Fairfield's show. Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh. I had yet to see it. Just...I can't even. OH. MY. GOSH. It was perfection. I can't even. Jeff Clark you are a genius.

And the competition itself? Amazing. It ran very well and I had a great time with some very wonderful hosts who knew exactly everything they needed to know for our group. Can't wait to come back to the Crystal Classic sometime, just perfection.

Edit: All of the dads back stage were wonderful. In the daytime they set up our risors for us (we have 4 extra tall risors that we have to bring on and off every performance, but this time they were set up), unloading they helped us accommodate all of our equipment and made it work out perfectly, before and after performing they were so supportive and nice-it made me feel very special so kudos to all of them!

Thanks again to everyone that attended yesterday. I had a blast hosting Carmel. They're some of the nicest people ever and they sang the roof off of the gym! They and everyone else who came helped make my last Crystal Classic the best!

For some reason I cannot edit my post... So I will just make another post of a few quick comments I added:

I was expecting a curveball. Fairfield sweep Seriously, I love that show. It is completely amazing both vocally, choreographically, and show concept wise. I love the changes you made as well.

Huntington- Your ballad... absolutely gorgeous. Easily my favorite ballad of the night

Scoring: it was 3 points separating first and third.
Rankings:
Carmel-31311
Loveland-13132
Marysville-22223

First, it was actually a tie points wise for best choreography with Loveland and Marysville. I am not sure how they decided to give it to Loveland, probably some sort of majority vote.

I do not agree with these results. I was at the competition all day. In finals, to me it was 100% clear that Marysville would be above Loveland. I did not know about Carmel because of the wayyyyy different style or singing and dancing in Indiana as opposed to like Marysville and Loveland. My reason being: I understand the choreography tie between Marysville and Loveland because both are difficult and extremely clean. Loveland has super high energy and I really enjoy their show. However, Carmel and Marysville's vocals were definitely better than Loveland. Since right now it is about Marysville and Loveland... I will just discuss them. Marysville was way more musical than Loveland and could be better understood. Random side note: end of Loveland's ballad, that tennor note is still too high for them. Also, the blonde girl who is often in the front, I cannot stop watching you. You look like you have a blast on stage and have so much energy!

Carmel- Second number solo girl- you are flawless. Just saying. I really enjoyed the opener you guys did as well. I found it a little creepy with the puppets though. Your choral tone is amazing as well. The only problem I have with your vocals is that I could almost never understand what you were saying. When I could, it was because you were standing still and singing. Otherwise your vocals were definitely the best and I agree with you receiving best vocals. For the most part choreography was clean as well, although it was definitely easier than Marysville, Loveland, and Oak Grove. Congrats on the GC.

Other Marysville note, big improvement from daytime. Congrats on a great performance, proud of you
