Actually Waubonsie tied for 2nd in finals and i think was awarded 3rd because the judges gave it to Huntington? Anyways Mt. Zion won Center Grove last year after HN was up by about 20 in prelims.

I also wanted to add that some group (I don't remember who it was) had a part where a guy did a backflip off of another guy's knee. It was fun and unexpected...and impressive for like 2 seconds. Immediately afterward, the guy started smiling like he just won the competition for them, then proceeded to turn to his friend and say 'that was awesome' then low-fived people on his way to a clump formation. SERIOUSLY? REALLY?

I can forgive the girs who sweep their hair back when doing a move near the face. I can even maybe forgive the guys who give no facials because facials aren't manly or something. But talking and high-fiving on stage.....not okay.

Adding to that, I get that jeans on stage is a new thing. I would love to have had the opportunity to wear jeans on stage, but jeans do not give you an excuse to pull your pants up during the show.

Sorry for my venting. I just couldn't handle it.

--------------
Something I learned as a performer after graduating high school was when I WAS in show choir, I remembered how so many show choirs have certain facials, react a certain way when performing, etc and sometimes it all seems a bit "forced." Forced is not the word, but it's the first word that comes to mind. When I started performing with others on stage after High School, I got something COMPLETELY different from what I got in high school and that was connecting with the people I was performing with. How often do you see a show choir when performing, hand off the mic to the next person acknowledging them as "hey! i get to see you everyday and perform with you on stage and i'm so glad to get to share this stage with you!" or, seeing people hectically bump into one another on stage when they are trying to get to their spot and thinking of themselves. I think a simple high 5 on stage isn't about being all about THEMSELVES... I think it takes 2 people to create a high 5 and these guys were obviously excited to be performing on stage together and MAKING THINGS WORK. All your comments seem to be bashing very hard on these kids when it really shouldn't matter about their wigs, or them smiling a certain way because they are happy to be performers on a stage and entertaining an audience, a high 5, a choreographed move that YOU didn't particularly like. Who cares what you like, I doubt they do. If you are a performer yourself, I hope someday you will get to feel the support of others who are on stage with you... Apparently you have never felt that.

what, other than the flashing of spankies was raunchy and innapropriate? as far as i can tell the show is pretty PG, i haven't thought of anything being particularly innapropriate untill all of this discussion on the subject, please enlighten me. I don't mean to sound rude, but i honestly dont have a clue where all the innappropriate moves discussion came from.

first, i started out saying it wasn't the spankies that caught my eye, that's what they are there for. i was talking about the 3 or 4 moves in the first or second number that were somewhat suggestive. that is all. i am not terribly offended and i still love your choir, i just think you have more class than that. my friends parents were really upset about it because "there are middle schoolers in the audience" but what is categorized as a little disappointment for me seems to be an up-in-arms war for other people. don't worry about it :] i wasn't trying to be "prissy" as i believe someone so kindly called anyone discussing the sexual nature of the choreography. i am sorry if i came off more upset about it than that lol. keep up the good work!

The ladies don't choreograph themselves... they have to do what their choreographer tells them to.

Honestly, I didn't even notice Pike's showing of spankies because I was just enjoying the number.

I do, however, feel that showing spankies would be entirely inappropriate during a ballad. Or if the girls just lifted up their dress/skirt/robe over their heads as choreography the entire time. Or bent over and showed their spankied butt to the audience for a long time. But I don't think this would happen so I think the show choir world should be at peace with the use of spankies. It is part of costume you know.

I really enjoyed NC's choreography. It was creative. If I had to complain, it would have to be about the wigs covering their faces a few times, but I don't think they could help that with the moves. As long as they don't mess with them on stage, which they didn't, so its not a big deal.

I think we should only start complaining when the song and choreography centers around all the ways to show spankies. "Like this! And this! of course this! Or this!".

Seriously.

What is the purpose of having spankies? So if that area does get shown for whatever reason, there is a uniform, very covering undergarment, which is usually the same color as part of the costume anyway. Spankies are for decency purposes. It is not bad choreography to show spankies for a particular move. Does the choreographer choose the costumes? Do the costumes choose the choreography? Who cares because there are spankies. You better be thankful its spankies and not just hose over a thong. Spankies.

I just found it really odd, that the complaints against NC's show are 90 percent because of the opening choreography and what, 3 lifts where the girls show spankies.

I wasn't trying to be rude Pike, i was actually trying to make a gay joke about myself, but thanks for ruining it.... lol

ALL i'm saying is that when you're sitting on the risers in "column" with the newspapers (just like every group who's ever done "column"). The Ladies need to find a better seating arrangement... or maybe try this and just don't Sit down during your show...

Ok I'm sorry I caused such contraversy here about the apparently "inappropriate" choreography in NC's show. Like I said before, I didn't get to see it, so I can't make my own judgement call.

And... not speaking about NC's show in particular but shows in general. I just feel that a performance doesn't have to be racy in order to be entertaining (even if that is the kind of society we live in nowadays).

The purposeful, and slightly risque flashing of spankies was MUCH better than the ACCIDENTAL flashing of undergarments by Pike's women during "Column". Ladies, Please watch out for that... i'm a very gay man and i wanted to vomit...

The only time in The Column that spankies might have been shown is during turns and when they are sitting on the risers. both unavoidable things due to the choreography and the outfits. and every choir that incorporates turns for the girls is concious of this fact. it happens in all choirs. now if you are talking about when they are sitting on the risers, then i agree, they could put their legs in a more lady-like posture...but that isnt how Marty choreographed them.

There is absolutely NOTHING inappropriate about your show... Prissy people are offended by more urban or "modern" choreography. Just because NC didn't choose to kick ball change, twirl, then blade us to death doesn't make them "raunchy"

I disagree. The parts where the girls showed their spankies didn't bother me. It was the nature of some of the other moves that concerned me somewhat. I whole-heartedly belive that NC Counterpoints are the most amazing group that ever got on the stage but their show this year had some inappropriate moves, that's the bottom line. I am not one for censorship, and the moves didn't bother me terribly but there is a line between decency and indecency that they tiptoed a little to closely. This is not MTV and I am not a prude but they were doing some of the same things that make me run to classic rock before hiphop and rap. I don't think MTV is ever a good example when you are arguing about decency but that is another argument for another forum, NC is still phenomenal I am just slightly disappointed because they don't need to do those moves to get GC. On a sidenote: i don't think it was a lack of cleanness so much as the lack of uniformity with the outfits. Their show would have looked a lot more clean if they had all been wearing the same thing, the mistakes wouldn't have stood out so much. :]

Personally, I found the second half of North Central's show to be the cleanest choreography of the night. It had the most passion and the most spunk, but the first half of the show was just a dud. I don't see where this "mismatched costumes made them look sloopy" ideology came from; if anything, the more uniform NC was, the less they looked... well, uniformed.

Ok, i forgot to put this in as well... In my opinion, pike's show didn't have the technical difficulty to even score well on the ISSMA sheet... From what i saw (and have rewatched on video from prelims) A poorly performed show by the FC Singers, with that set should have won out over the most perfect show pike could have with theirs.

Like i said... I personally thought NC would win, But in my opinion FC and Warren were the 2 contenders for 2nd and 3rd. I thought FC's choreo scores would be higher than warren's but warren's vocals would score higher and they might topple FC to 3rd.

I just thought that if NC bombed, FC would be the only choir worthy of a GC.

Other than NC, FC was most definitely the most impressive choir there on saturday. Their polish, attitude, energy, show design, and performance was just top notch.

I have noticed with a lot of choirs this year that choreographers have decided that choreography should only include arm movements and choirs like FC or NC with more difficult footwork may get screwed over because someone with simpler choreo can do it in a more polished fashion. By the way, if it weren't for your note I was going to point out that people can see your choir haha :]

Yeah, it has been like this for a long long time.

NC had to have just been dead tired...

Their day show wasn't the cleanest thing out there, but they had the energy, show design, and technical difficulty to make every choir that performed before them look like amateurs.

As far as their "inappropriate" choreo... There were a FEW times, when i thought "Oh lord, the parents aren't going to like that at all". Lifts were the girls showed nearly all of what was underneath their costumes. I personally thought that it was about time a choir performed a show with truly "appropriate to the selection" choreography.

I'm sorry that people aren't used to seeing it in show choir, but it's only because people have been too afraid to step that far out before. There is nothing sexual or suggestive about the choreography, but there are a few moments in which you do think to yourself "wow if i was that chick i would not be happy about how much ppl are seeing right now" Then again, NC has hotter females than any choir i've ever seen this year, so... who knows what the thought on that is.

Sex appeal is not non existent in high school, or the programs that 90 percent of high school students are exposed to every day. Saying that their choreography is inappropriate, then turning on the tv and watching anything on MTV is just down right hypocritical.

This show is definitely not for mormons, but it is not raunchy.
