I know this is really really really old, but I was wondering if you could put the Best Male/Female soloists up? This was the only competition I ever won BFS at and I would love it if it were on record. Thanks!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I seriously appreciate it!! <3 <3

Papillion is a great show choir. What I said earlier was just myself talking in vain. They deserve what they get and more. I love watching them and I hope I get more oppurtunities in the future.

I can't believe Papillion made finals over Headliners. Headliners just beat them in Waukee! Absolutely ridiculous! I think prelim performance time definetly was a factor in that.

Not saying that this would have any-thing to do with it, but time of performances and home field advantage could have helped slightly too.

Didn't stay for the finals but saw all of those groups. Felt like Mitchell, Totino Grace and LSW were a step above Elkhorn South, Keller and Papio. Anxious to see the results.

Agreed, but we are not Show Choir judges and the judges didn't agree with us. I am not trying to be a prude, but I did not agree that Keller should have won (BV), ALTHOUGH their show was one of the best.

I wanted to share a small story too.
For a large part of the day I got to sit by a very nice woman. Well this woman told me that she had never been to a show choir competiton. Apparently, she had been across the street at church and came out and saw all these buses parked at Westside and someone told her that there was a big "show choir competition" going on that day. She decided to come take a look while her husband went and looked at some cars. Well she came in for the second varsity group [a bit after I had gotten there] and was astonished at what she saw [especially as the day went on]. She had never heard of show choir appart from Glee, which can be good, but obviously isn't the most accurate representation of what it's really like a lot of the time haha

After every group she would turn to me and rave and gush about how cool all of this all was. During shows i could tell she was completely entertained and would gasp and "ooo" and "ahh" at times. After songs were done and shows she would clap very eagerly and "woo" the groups. Between shows she went on to ask me about how this all worked and I little by little explained as much as I could. From how rehersals are, learning choreography, and auditions, to costume fees and different sets and styles of shows, to how the judging/scoring worked, and finals was picked. At one point Stephen Todd sat on the otherside of her to watch and take notes of two groups he choreographed [GISH and Keller] and they talked for a while too about show choir and choreographing. Anyway, she seemed facinated at how much more complex this was after you get passed the surface and was in absolute love with this all. We also talked about how important stuff like this and the rest of the arts are to kids, what they teach us later in life, and how this is can be like a love/escape/life for us sometimes. She told me about how much she loved all this and how she wished she had discovered it many years ago, but was glad she did that day. "Better late than never! haha"

Once Ralston was about to go on, i had to go up to the front to cheer them on, and thus we unfortunately said good bye. I ended up not finding her in that packed auditorium afterwards. But she told me how she'd fallen in love with show choir now, and was for sure going to be going to any and as many competitons as she could find/get to.
So hey guys, if anything, show choir gained a very excited fan yesterday =]

I'm just curious about Totino-Grace. Did they have an older group last year and this year the group is just very young or are judges not responding to their show? I know this group will have a less successful year every couple or so. No disrespect to them at all I am just curious about the difference between this year and the last couple. Thanks to anyone who would like to respond to this.

Personally speaking, I think they are absolutely killing themselves with their closing set, otherwise they would be right up there with the front-runners.

yes, me. im not going to be rude, but im just saying that just because they beat us at waukee, doesnt mean that you will always beat us. we made a lot of adjustments on our show and it proved to the judges that it made us a better show choir to compete with.

Wow. Sioux City East misses finals. Serious question for those out there, when was the last time Sioux City East missed finals at a non-national competition? Its been.... since before I can remember.

It was in 2002 or around then

Okay, so i really loved this competition a whole lot you guys. This was probably the best one I've ever been to. It was incredibly well run, the food was delicious. [btw, the chili was delicious jbliakos ;)] adn the competition was fierce. Not to mention that ATSC was awesomeeeee and that I love your show. =]
There were way more than 6 groups with "finals worthy" performances and everyone should be really proud of what they put on stage! I wish i could have stayed for finals, but my ride wasn't feeling too well.

Imma try and write a bit about every group i saw tho [especially if i hadn't seen ya before today]:

Lewis Central - Lewis Corporation: I really enjoyed that I knew almost all your songs. I love Closer to the Edge and Your Guardian Angel, so i was singing mouthing every word haha The choroegraphy was pretty clean, but i think visually it was cleaner and looked better in the second half of the show.

Vermillion - Rhythm in Red: I really liked your show. The ballad was very pretty and well sung. You all looked so young though! haha and there was one guy that was towards the front for most of the show, and he was great! His energy was awesome and he legitimitely looked like he loved being on stage! While everyone had great facials, it would be awesome if the energy was a bit higher like his was. Great job tho guys!

Benton - Celebration Co.: Great opening solo. I thought that the second song was really cute, and the choreography for it was great, just needs to be cleaned up a bit. Your drummer was awesome and you guys were totally with him on all those "hits" which was really cool. The brass was also really good at supporting you guys and not overpowering or anything. You guys started singing Not While I'm Around for you ballad and i got a big smile. I love the song and it was a really pretty arrangement of it. You guys sounded great in it. Also, your closer reminded me a bit of Westside's closer last year, which was kinda fitting because of where you were at hahaha Just make sure you guys are having fun with it!

Sioux City East - The Headliners: I was really excited to see the big set you guys brought and set up. Even more so because you all did it by yourselfs! It was a whole knew stage and fit the show so well. I wasn't disappointed at all! Loved the show. It was really entertaining from beginning to end. You guys started singing A Wild, Wild Party and I got really happy That was our closer my freshmen year and it's been one of my favorite songs I've done. I had to resist from doing the choreography haha I loved the costumes [and they fit the show so well.] You had a so many great performers in your group and when you danced, you DANCED. I haven't seen Burlesque, but i loved the music, so now i kinda want to. Really good show, I loved it.

Grand Island Senior High - Ultimate Image: [have already seen you guys and wrote about you all] I saw you guys at Gretna, and you we're awesome. Since then you have kept improving and getting cleaner and sounding better. I loved your show then and love it now. Guy in the center front row in the beginning of the second song, you were still an amazing performer and one of my favorites haha and your ballad still sounded so good.

Keller Central, TX - Voices of Central: UGHH I LOVED YOU GUYS. <3 haha It was such a cool concept for the show and so well excecuted. It was a pleasent show to watch, because it really was like a story being told from song to song. Everybody Talks was good. Loved the guys singing Rumor Has It. The Without You/No Day But Today song was really nice. Oh and Paradise was beautiful. I literally got teared up. That song, in my opinion, won you the Best Vocals. The main girl in the "story" was also a beautiful dancer. I can't tell you guys how much I loved this show and all of you. Favorite show of the day.

Bellevue West- Take II: [have already seen you guys and wrote about you all] It was good to see that you guys were able to add the second song this time. I love September, and a bunch of people in the audience [adults mostly im presuming haha] were swaying or boping their heads along to the music. Also, your vocals and choreography got a lot stronger. Nice job.

Mitchell - Friend De Coup: Very good as always and very intense choreography [Kuddos to Stephen Todd haha]. The theme of the show and the runway was really cool. Your Money Medley was really fun [we did one my senior year!] The ballad was really pretty and very well sung and balanced. Almost everyone was performing full out. The band really deserved that Best Band award. and as always, your costumes/hair/make up are a statement for sure. Someone please get me the guys' opening shoes. please. haha

Papillion La Vista - Free Spirit: I was reaaally impressed with you guys! I was talking to Jonathan about it and how this was kinda like the old free spirit [like circa 2007]. It was really nice to see how the choreography was INCREDIBLY clean, especially this early in the season! I liked the dresses. The feel of the show was really nice. The opener soloist was awesome! Great voice. Along with the second song soloist too! Also, you guys are always super friendly! Really excited for you guys ad the rest of your season, and congrats on finals [since it was obviously a tough competition!] :D

Ralston - RUSH: I already tell you all everything anyway and I've seen you multiple times obviously. haha But i loved the new order of the songs a lot more. The Name Medley change for the judges was hilarious! Also, I thought that the Guitar/Violint worked really well in the ballad, along witht he trio in it. I love you guys.

Grand Island Northwest - 14 Karat Gold: Sorry, didn't get to see you guys. We lost our seats after we went up to the front for Ralston and couldnt find any new ones really. I did hear great things though!

Totino Grace - Company of Singers: I really liked your choreography [April James always has good choreo haha]. The vocals were really great, especially in the ballad. You the ending of it was really really cool. Imagine/No Day But Today Fit extremely well and made for a good ballad! The robot dancer at the beginning of the opener who did the splits was great and it was a really interesting take on Mad World. The quintet of girls sounded really nice. and I was only disappointed that those "hoop skits" didn't light up.[When you guys came out in them, i could have sworn that they were going to! haha]

Elkhorn South - Blackout: [have already seen you guys and wrote about you allStill amazing. the choreography is great and excecuted well. Mystery date is still cute AND hilarious. Such a well made show. and You all sound amazing still!

Lincoln Southwest - Resonance: So so good. The choreography was not only great, but it was also super clean. The vocals were blew me away sometimes. Your show looks so tiring, but incredibly fun. The beginning dresses were really pretty and i loved the suits with the green. The constume changeeeee! haha I did NOT see that last one coming. At all. it was very cool! and we completely missed how the guys got the flames on those vests too! Also, tapping is hard to clean, so i appreciated it being done well and having been cleaned a lot! Loved the closer!

MAN, that was a doozy to write. haha But i loved this competiton, so it was very much so worth it :D

This goes out to all the show choir kids... ♥ We all had great performances and worked our hearts out today! PLEASE READ, I KNOW IT'S LONG, BUT IT IS WORTH IT. IT GAVE ME GREAT INSPIRATION, LIKE I HOPE IT WILL YOU.

About 30 minutes before The Headliners were to perform, an older woman in probably her late 70's, sat down next to me. She began asking me questions about the competition program, and show choir in general. She told me about how her kids, who are now in their 50's, had went to Westside, but back then programs like this were not around. I explained more and more of show choir to her, and explained to her that we had three groups here at East High. I showed her New Sound pictures, and pointed out the three groups in the program.

"You are so blessed, to have such opportunities!" She exclaimed, "It is teaching you such great life skills!"

Finally, she asked me to find again New Sound in her program, and sign my name beside it so she could remember me, and the conversation we had. The Headliners began to go on stage, and we burst into cheers. I had warned her about this, but she was still a little shocked by the amount of spirit we had.

"Oh my," She started, "You really support each other."

I explained to her the incredible bond that show choir gave us, how we are all one big family, despite the three different show choirs.

She clapped right along with us as The Headliners began. She whispered over and over about how great this was.

"Whoever did this choreography was brilliant! They definitely know what they are doing!" She exclaimed to me halfway through the show. She was completely glued to watching them, and in the ballad, I'm pretty sure tears formed in her eyes. When the closer ended, and we all stood, she sat there stunned by what she had seen.

"That was fantastic!!" She called to me. "Unbelievable!"

It was coincidence that she had found out about the competition - learning about it at the hotel she was staying in - and The Headliners were her first full view of show choir that day.

She thought we were great. She loved us. We brought her good feelings, and The Headliners made her even more in love with the idea of show choir. We affected this ONE woman in the audience this way. That itself matters to me, more than any trophy, or place, or even if we've made finals.

It would be good to have those things, but to know you've made a impact on someone, while doing something you love... that alone is a beautiful thing. Show choir isn't about the trophy, finals or first place... It's about you, your show choir team, and the audience out there that is affected by the beautiful performance you put on. ♥ Remember, you never know who you might affected when you're on that stage. I'm so proud of my Impulse girls, the incredible guys and gals of New Sound, and my amazing Headliners

lol. embarrassing.

Edit: Fixed. Also, I feel like it would be hard to *not* catch the sarcasm. Also, I don't care anymore. I'm an old man. I've lived a happy life.

OMG if you're an old man I'm halfway in the grave. (Though sometimes working with kids 10 years younger than me I feel that way anyway lol)

Does anybody know prep/womens results? It would be nice to have those on here. All I know for sure is that Ambiance got first in prep (sew proud).

I think that the women's groups ended up as:
GC: Ralston Runway
1RU: Bellevue East Sensations
2RU: Papillion -La Vista Heart and Soul

i think thats right.

So I usually post my opinions of groups right after finals but I was working at the competition and showed up at the school at 5am. I am also heading back to Drake University tomorrow after being home for 6 weeks.....still havnt packed yet :/ I am tired. I will post them all tomorrow. I will probably just do finals groups and then groups I tweeted about the most. I am proud to say that I gained 10 new followers today courtesy of my updates throughout the day.

I can't believe Papillion made finals over Headliners. Headliners just beat them in Waukee! Absolutely ridiculous! I think prelim performance time definetly was a factor in that.

Careful with what you say on here regarding a group that you are associated with. First off, did you even see papio. Both groups were extremely good today. Also different judges, different stage, different travel times, possibly performance times although with the level of competition here you had to bring it no matter what time you went in prelims. Waukee was also 2 weeks ago. Groups can change alot in 2 weeks. For instance. Ralstons opener was their 2nd number 2 weeks ago, their ballad was rearranged, they moved their old opener to the end of their show. They rewrote their second number and nearly doubled it in length. In otherwords they completely remastered their show(which I loved btw. It was awesome today Ralston). A lot can change in 2 weeks. Im not trying to be rude but just be careful when saying that one group didnt deserve to be in finals over another because that cna be taken the wrong way be alot of people I also know that their are papio kids in this forum.
