I totally agree with this. It's going to be so much nicer to compete in day round because it's not such a deep competition like last year. Last year everyone had to give GC-caliber shows just to get in finals and I'm sure it had to be stressful for the performers.

It sure was. It really pushed the groups and let them really release into their shows though. It also gave the judges good ideas for where people were going to be finishing at night. It was like double finals. I can see the same kind of thing happening this year at Wheaton. My gosh I wish I will be able to go to that. Can't wait for any of this! So excited for the season to finally start!

The real showdown will be at finals though. I can see the day round mostly being a show to get a feel for the logistics of the stage for the performers so they can really bring it at night. Can't wait!

I'm going to predict the finalists in no particular order:

Hastings
La Crosse Logan
La Crosse Central
Linn-Mar
Onalaska
Omaha

hahaha (it was a joke)

Unless for some reason Linn-Mar In Step has an amazing show and beats out Logan. Always a possibility. In Step has always seemed to start off the season very strong at Viterbo every year. Who knows what will happen. The real showdown will be at finals though. I can see the day round mostly being a show to get a feel for the logistics of the stage for the performers so they can really bring it at night. Can't wait!

Predictions????????

Last year I really had no clue as to how this competition would pan out. It really came down to how each group performed and the energy their show brought.

Hastings had a GREAT visual quality but was lacking in vocals compared to the top 3, who won vocal captions all year long. If they can clean up pitches they can rise quickly at this competition. I'm sure Stephen is going to give them a GREAT look again and they will probably have some of the best costumes of the year.

Omaha Westside always has a GREAT sound, but IMO their visual style leaves me wanting more. Also their band is always fantastic! But if Hastings sings better they are going to have to watch out. The key for Westside is to perform at 100% and be clean. It might not be the best choreography, but if it is the best executed choreography they will probably win. They always sing great and have one of the best-sung ballads every year, and I'm sure this year won't be any different.

GCS to me was the most well-rounded group last year. They are always so clean, sing BRILLIANTLY, and always have a great band as well. IMO they were my favorite show of the year last year. However, they REALLY took off after Viterbo. The energy was just a little lacking last year, especially in the opener, and that probably pushed them back to 2nd. They are going to be well-prepared, so to me it's all about the energy the show brings, especially this early in the season. Correct tempi will be important to the success of the show.

Linn-Mar last year had probably the most FUN show I saw last year. Each song was really great- SO much energy and really creative. Probably my favorite 10th Street show ever. The energy the show brought really pushed y'all into 1st last year. If you guys are clean like last year then you have a very great chance to win. If you're not clean, like 2007 or 2008, then you could drop back to 4th. So my suggestion would be to just have the most fun because that is a quality judges look for at this time of year. Who has that "it" factor. Last year it was you guys, we'll see this year!

So basically, just like last year, this year should be pretty even. I sat with a large group last year, and we all had different groups as our favorites. Each of your styles will be so different, so it's about doing what you do the best. I don't think there is a 1/2 and a 3/4. That's how it ended up last year, but show choir is not the same every year (unless you're Burbank or Attache) so I doubt this competition will be the same. It's always impossible to know how all the groups will be at the first competition. This could even be the year Onalaska comes back to being that powerhouse they were in the mid-00s. You never know.

Predictions????????

I think it will be a close one between first and second and third and fourth like last year, you guys were good, and beat GCS and I wish you luck this year, but Hastings and Omaha will be close for 3rd and 4th and Linn Mar and GCS for runner up and Champions.

Even though I'm already making two trips up to LAX this year, I may have to make a 3rd.... Those top 4 from last year all returning?!?! I mean that was an awesome comp last year, so I expect nothing less than amazing this year.
