I completely agree with this. I spent four years in an intermediate choir, while all my friends I grew up with made it into the advanced divisions. So whenever I went to the advanced divisions to watch my friends perform, it was very clear even in just attendance that more people recognized the advanced divisions more. After I graduated, I have made an effort to watch all the divisions and give equal support whenever I have gone to competitions. However, I'm just one person and I can't really do a whole lot. :X

Congrats,
As wonderful as advanced choir division is sometimes I feel that intermediate and novice divisions don't get the same love as advanced divisions. They try juse as hard and still put on a great show. Yet they aren't as heavily attended and no one ever seems to have results...or really care.
Just my thoughts so I wanted to share and give some love out to the intermediate and novice level show choir groups!!

I definitely agree with you. Intermediate, novice, prep, women's, middle school, etc. All those groups sort of don't get the same amount of hype that advanced mixed groups do. It's just like other sports in high school: the junior varsity basketball, football, baseball teams don't really get the same type of recognition that the varsity sports do. While it's probably true that those groups put forth just as heartfelt of a performance, they're simply not in the same league as those advanced mixed groups, hence the separate divisions. What you pointed out is a sad and unfortunate, but realistic truth of the show choir world. It's no different than other sports, in my opinion.

Why is placement unknown for the Tier III Division?

I believe it's listed as "placement unknown", because to my knowledge, nobody posted the full results regarding placements for Tier III. If you have the complete results, as well as any captions that those four Tier III groups may have won, then please feel free to post them. I'm sure the SCC Crew would be happy to post that information once they have a bit of free time.

How long to DVDs usually take to arrive after an order is placed? This will be my first experience with them, so I am unsure of what to expect.

So can anyone elaborate on the shows?

Elaborate how? Burbank and Clinton's show are both on youtube on the same channel, southernshow choir, if you want to watch them.

In California, the "Showmanship" Award is given to the choir with the highest choreography scores (categories may include visual effect, expression, etc.). Also, the "Best Choreography" award given by some competitions is given to the choir with the most dynamic and precise choreography.

In California, Musicianship is the just about the same as best vocals. On a music score sheet, usually categories such as diction, tone, intonation, dynamics, blend, balance and interpretation are present. Showmanship is usually different than best choreography. Showmanship includes choreography (and the aspects surrounding the choreo), but also includes areas such as interpretation and "faces". These are just some categories I have seen, although I know that for each competition the score sheet categories can be different, depending sometimes on how the scoring is weighted (like if it was 70% music and 30% show on the scoring sheet, music would have more categories to judge from).

In the midwest we call it straight up best vocals. Does musicianship = best vocals? or is it something else?

Yes, so essentially - was Clinton awarded best vocals? Or does the caption "Musicianship" entail more than vocals?

For Southern California competitions - Is musicianship more than simply vocals?

There are some other schools I don'r recognize in this competition (Notre Dame Prepatory, The King's Academy, LaCueva High School, Page High School, and Ironwood Ridge High), it is great to see so many new high schools with show choirs especially considering the budget crisis, I was just wondering if they are all from Southern California or are they from other areas?

Via the ever-helpful SCC database

Ironwood Ridge "Encore!" is from Oro Valley, AZ
Notre Dame Prep "Saints Alive" is from Scottsdale, AZ
Page "Guys & Dolls" isn't in the SCC database, but I assume it's the high school in Page, AZ
The King's Academy "Knightshine" is from Sunnyvale, CA
La Cueva "Main Street" & "5th Avenue" is from Albuquerque, NM
