I completely agree and I made friends with some of their performers and they said one of the biggest reasons is money. It costs a lot of money to go to national competitions but I agree that Urbandale would be a good challenge for them. Speech season is also right in the middle of show choir season which causes a lot of scheduling issues for everyone. They had a pretty big challenge from Buffalo Grove at Premiere this past year and frankly a lot of people still think Buffalo Grove should've won.

I know this is an old forum but who would've guessed that Waukee would not lose a single time since this competition? Talk about a midwest powerhouse along with WWS and Waubonsie

While it's a feat to be celebrated, I think their competition schedule has a lot to do with that.

Waukee is phenomenal, but I'd love for them to throw themselves into the fray a little more often. They could attend Urbandale's competition down the street, which always brings in some fantastic groups.

I am so happy to have been part of this competition. It is Probably going to be the most intense competition of my show choir career. All I can say is that every group put on one hell of a show yesterday and that the results should have shown that every group was the grand champion. I think a lot of groups had their peak show yesterday. I am proud to say that 10th Street got 4th place at this competition. We proved it to ourselves what our show really is this year and how much fun we could have with it. We built a family in our group, and our baby is our show. That baby is as strong as ever and we all love it to death.

Interesting story from yesterday:

Wheaton-Warrenville had just finished their show when an older couple seated in front of me turned around and said, "Our friends tell us you're a director of another Iowa show choir. What did you think of that last group? To me it seems like it just doesn't fit within the parameters of the competition...that it's kind of not fair."

Let me preface what I'm about to say by explaining that my own show choir is one of the most traditional groups around. Very limited props. Maybe one costume change. Our shows rarely have a discernible theme.

I started by telling them the exact same thing I had tweeted just seconds before...for me Wheaton-Warrenville was the perfect blend of traditional midwest style shows and west coast story based shows. I loved it. I told her that I'm in favor of anything that propels the medium forward. If show choir never progressed we'd all be doing step touches and box steps while we waggled our sequined bowlers back and forth.

It was a great day of show choirs that I would have enjoyed a whole lot more if the show choir mommies behind me had realized it's not good form to hold full volume (not whispered) conversations during every other show choir's performance but your own school's.

What a great competition!

Just a few brief thoughts...

Wheaton- I would have to say your show design and set up is the best I have ever seen. It was fresh to me, it told a story without being too literal. The dancing was perfect singing was great. This was show choir! I REALLY hope I can attend your competition because I want to see this show again. Well deserved GC and best choreo

Waukee- The W's take it! You are the silent killers this year. No one was talking about you even after your impressive win at Urbandale last week, but I was expecting a surprise out of you guys. You delivered. The vocals were just wonderful to listen to, very clean, fun, effective choreography. Your ballad is amazing and it was a treat to get to see this show again and how much it has improved from Muscatine!

Kennedy- Great show! And don't be sad about 3rd place because there were some amazing choirs here and it would be the worst to try and judge all of this. The intensity of the show was great vocals were good choreo was super clean but I felt something missing that other groups had.

Linn-Mar: I will say this again... this is your best show I've ever seen. It is just SOOO much fun and incredible choreography. Best performance I've seen yet from you guys, just sadly not everyone could be the winning choir and the judges had some hard choices. I personally had you higher then you placed but it was anyone's guess!

Iowa city High- first of all... holy COW that band of yours just kills it. I don't think i've ever seen a band energize a show choir like i've seen them energize you. You can tell it gives you energy in all of your dancing so even if it shows up a little sloppy it has an energy most groups don't have. I really like the opener this year and after seeing the show a few times I really started to like the closer. Its a lot of fun, high energy. Great job yesterday!

Iowa City West- Great job! I think out of all the groups you improved the most from day to night. Everything was crisper, cleaner and just hit. Vocals were a lot better and up to what I was expecting after you guys winning BV at Benton. I liked the show design better at night just everything clicked for me. Great job making finals and I can't wait to see more of you and Kevin Chase's choreography in years to come

I personally had finals going:
Wheaton (BC)
Linn-Mar
Waukee (BV)
Kennedy
Iowa City West
Iowa City High

So I haven't been following every group at this competition, but I'm really surprised Linn-Mar didn't finish higher. I mean, I heard Wheaton's so is just spectacular this year, but Linn-Mar is fantastic this year. I saw their show at Fort last week. If I'm remembering right, they swept the competition too, and it wasn't even close.

Sometimes that's what happens when you go up against groups of this caliber. I personally had Linn-Mar in 3rd, but I'll make that post later. Just goes to show that this competition was ridiculously close

To further on that ic high ic west and bettendorf all tied in rankings and raw score broke the tie

I know IC West beat Bettendorf by 1 point, IC High is ahead of IC West by 20 points, and Kennedy is ahead of IC High by 7.5 points. Very close scores!

Also-
Best Band: IC High
Best Female Soloist: Davenport North
Best Male Soloist: IC High
