Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting but after locking up the school at 3:30 am some much needed rest was warranted.

A special thank you to all of the groups attending this yrs Invitational. We enjoyed hosting you and hope that ALL of you come back next yr.

Congrats to WV on the GC. Buffalo Grove on 1st RU, EE on 2nd RU, Twinsburg on 3rd RU, Jefferson on 4th RU and Glenwood on 5th RU. Just getting into finals at this competition was an accomplishment in itself.

I spoke to alot of spectators throughout the day and they all had their own personal favorite, but I know they all left MTZ with the feeling that they may have just witnessed some of the best performances that they will see all year long.

It appears there was a minor scoring error at this event, and the correct final placements are now reflected above. Just wanted to point it out in case there was confusion over what was listed and what people had commented in the forum. Thanks.

Yes, 10 pt penalty given during the day. That put us just 2 pts in finals. 4 more seconds, and we wouldve lost another 2.5 pts. Do the math. Lol. I heard we got penalized in day for leaving a box on stage?? I cant confirm that. Our night show was better than the day round, and they announced wrong order. We actually were 4th runner up. Scoring error. Switched trophies after awards. But yeah, it was a tough competition. All the groups that i saw were fantastic. And they sang so well. Choreography was clean and crisp but not always entertaining. But it was an amazing day!! Congrats to WV!!!

That makes sense. All of the groups you competed against were great groups though. I'm sad I couldn't be there, but I know you guys performed your hardest and as Coach always says, as long as each show is better than your last, than you're always successful. Congrats to you guys, and to Ovation, as well as all the other schools that competed!

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that. It took a long time for them to set up, and considering their show, I can see why

It's to my understanding that they were docked 10 points in prelims for going over time and were in 5th place going into finals with the ten points deducted, however, I know for a fact that they do not time in finals. So this is very odd indeed.

From what I had heard (and don't quote me on this) is that there was a time penalty assessed to Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
Could someone confirm or deny this??

Oh wow, I mean, I know their set is more than they're used to this year, so I could see that being possible, but I agree, is there anyone that can confirm?? It just surprises me that they can come off of a Grand Championship and be in last their next competition...Not hating on anyone or saying the other schools didn't deserve their places, because I wasn't there, I'm just curiously surprised.

how did Jefferson get placed last? I saw them last week when they won Grand Champs! Their show was amazing, and impeccably in tune! I wish I had been there so maybe I could better understand...

Wow. Something must have really changed in finals because BG was clearly the best SC in prelims and Jefferson was much better than a 6th place SC.

There was no choir better than Waubonsie Valley. BG was great for their first couple of songs, but like most of the choirs I saw, they went out of tune in their ballad and the show kind of never recovered to the point that they started at. I personally wasn't a big fan of the show, but I can definitely see why they got Best Choreography

I do agree with you about Jefferson. I loved their show and thought they might have had a chance up until the acapella part in their ballad. It was really out of tune and it was really noticeable. I honestly think if they cut that part or added softer instrumentals in there the ballad would be wayyyyy better. I thought they'd get 2nd or 3rd, but not 6th.
