I don't want to make Mt. Zion out to be full of themselves or anything, but is it possible that they felt confident going overtime hoping that their scores would still get them into finals? If they could even barely make finals (which they almost did, even with the penalty), which aren't timed, they could still have a shot at placing well. This would explain the same problem two years in a row; there could have just been a "math error" or a overconfidence issue. Another possible explanation I thought of was that perhaps they are not used to 25 minute time slots. I'm not sure how most Illinois comps work, but most here in Wisconsin are 25 minutes, unless there are not many choirs there. I would hate to assume that they didn't practice their timing, because we practiced many times to make sure we were under 25 minutes setting up our extra curtains; I would assume they would do the same.

I don't know how Mt. Zion would have placed without the penalty, but after the penalty was applied they were still in 7th. I think the same thing happened last year, that they almost snuck into finals even with the penalty applied. I was really surprised they made the same mistake again!

Right?! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I would've thought they'd have practiced their timing over and over and over and over again.

Day round without penalties went:

La Crosse Central
Monona Grove
Mt. Zion
Holmen
Kennedy
Logan
Neenah
Sauk

Interesting.... Sad to see Mt. Zion hit with a time penalty again this year. Let's hope they can have the issue solved by Danville, who is timing for riser set-up this year.

very surprising results! Not in a bad way but it was great to see a group like Monona make some noise at this competition!

Congrats to GCS, I love the show and so happy to see you won! Me and Jay were rooting for you from Linn Mar's comp yesterday

I was told they were in 3rd place (without penalties applied), with the penalties applied put them in 7th and 3.5 points away from 6th place.

Our director told us that Mt. Zion got another time penalty, I believe 30 points. I also know that Mt. Zion placed 7th, even with the penalty, and us here at Sauk placed eigth.

wait im confused......they placed 7th anyways? or the time penalty dropped them to 7th....

What we were told was that Mt. Zion went over by 4 minutes, with a 25 point penalty for each minute. Not sure if that's true, but it seems to make more sense than a 30 pt. deduction.

Just wanted to say that I'm super proud of Holmen and Logan !!! Great job guys !

Congrats MG for 1RU! Also, GCS is fabulous every year, so I'm not surprised at their win. Hopefully I'll be able to see their show this year.

GCS is going to be my favorite show of the year. It's so my style and will be super hard to top for me. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, but THE BALLAD!!!! <3 And #4. And the closer. Idk I just love the whole show.
