well not exactly... I dont remember the points placements, but your groups total was the sum of the judges votes. I remember Ankeny got all first place votes so they got 8 pts. Then i think it went 25, 30, 31 and i dont remember the last two. But hopefully someone will post the whole thing

One director, gave totals including something like: Ankeny 1454, CR Kennedy 1349, etc. So yes, they did do a raw score in finals, and yes, there was over 100 points difference from 1st to 2nd.

Totino-Grace: When I was running the scores back and forth between gyms, I saw those huge people things, don't know what your would call them, and I was like "Yup, thats Totino's" Your guy's show was really neat. The tambourine number was really cool. At first I was like, tambourines?, but you guys pulled it off, and the visuals in that song were awesome. The guy soloist during the guys number was really good, and very entertaining, he had a really good stage presence. Of course your closer was awesome, loved the use of the props and different dance styles.

Thanks and thanks for the solo comment

Well, I only made it to this competition for finals, but it was a very good finals competition. This is how I had it going:

GC: Ankeny
1RU: CR Kennedy
2RU: Totino-Grace
3RU: Johnston
4RU: Linn-Mar
5RU: Waukee

Waukee- This was my first time seeing your show. You came onstage and you reminded me a lot of an old prairie group. I thought you had weak vocals and sloppy choreography. It was good choreography just not clean all the time.

Johnston- This was also my first time seeing you guys. I thought your choreography was much cleaner than Waukee's, but it was also still sloppy. I thought you had loud vocals, but I didn't like the tone quality of the sound, and I also thought you had pitch problems. I didn't notice the diction as a plus and sometimes I had trouble understanding the words. I thought you were better than Waukee by a lot, but I wasn't entirely impressed.

Linn-Mar- the same thing that happened last year is happening again this year. Yah its clean... and yah you have good vocals, but until you can all pump it up performance-wise, this will not be a great show. Thats all you really need. I'm not the biggest fan of your costumes this year. The closer costumes make all the girls look heavy, and maybe it was the lighting at Urbandale, but I didn't even like your opening dresses...

Kennedy- You must have pumped it up for finals. You had the best vocals of the day, besides ankeny. i thought your show design was very good. I didn't think the opener was as effective as it could've been. It just didnt have the production value, and choreography that was needed to pull off the song really well. I really enjoy that song but I just don't think it was done the best. I didn't really get involved with the show and its not my favorite or anything... but you guys definitely deserved what you got I thought. I also LOVED your opening dresses!

Totino- I thought for sure you would get 2nd or 3rd. You have definitely improved since Omaha Westside. The vocals were still really lacking. In the opener I feel like all you have is diction. There is no tone to the sound, and thats why the projection is lacking. You need to make sure there are vowels in the words. The choreography and energy was great. But the show is growing on me too.

Ankeny- Another great show. Beautiful vocals. The women's sound was much fuller and louder than at Lincoln Southwest (which is definitely a good thing). The show is fantastic. I knew you would pull off an amazing finals show. You definitely deserved everything you got here... Your whole show was just leaps and bounds better than all the other groups here. They were all GREAT, so that just shows how good you guys are this year.

Thanks to Steph, Dani, and Luke for keeping me entertained.

Sorry about that. They were moving all of the network servers from the old building to the new building and consequently the wireless network was down pretty much all day on Saturday.

Yeah, I totally helped connect those servers earlier this afternoon. And I moved some boxes over, hooray!

Ok so this is my first post on showchoir.com ever! I actually was a judge host at Urbandale's competition, which by the way was the best job ever, I love all the judges they were fantastic ! But anyway being a judge host I was able to watch all the fan-tabulous groups that performed at this competition, and I thought it would be appropriate to comment on some of the shows.
(P.S. I only got to see the day time performances)

Happiness Inc: I've always loved your shows, they are always so unique and your novelty numbers are
always so well done. I first got to see your show at Johnston, and I really liked it. But watching you at this competition, I couldn't believe how much more I liked it! I love your opener, so clean, and fun to watch. Toledo Surprise was really really good, I love that song, and you did it justice. Your ballad was pretty, you made me want to go watch Moulin Rouge soooo badly. Uninvited was really different, the cool costuming really brought out the mood of the song. Thataway was great, love the outfits.

Innovation: I am really bummed that I missed your ballad during finals, everyone said it was amazing. First off I have to say that all your soloists in the your opener were great, they all did a wonderful job. Your closer "Raise your hand" is really really fun and the dancing is awesome. Congrats on moving up during finals.

10th Street Edition: I absolutely love love this show. You guys are soooo good. Your opener is probably my favorite opener I've seen this year so far. The soloist in that song was so good, I can't even stress how great you were. Your ballad was really good, a different kind of twist on that song, and it was a good twist too. The soloist was spectacular, I am pretty sure everyone and there mom melted when he sang, I know my mom can't stop talking about him. The rest of your show was had really good energy, and I found it really entertaining. I loved that your director seemed to have so much fun directing, thats was really cool to see. Again I loved your show, and you were one of my top favorites.

Visual Adrenaline
: Well you all gave me a adrenaline rush. After running about all day and watching all those groups, but the end of the day I was dragging a bit, but your show was spectacular, and I felt awake through the whole thing. Your opener was really good, i was like for a while "this is interesting" then the dance break hit, and it blew my mind, you all move so well, your band is amazing, you all make me wanna dance, and the soloist/writer of the song was amazing, he was just amazing, so good! The ballad was good, different than what I was expecting, but the soloists were good, the guy did a really good job, great voice. The third song "On my way" whoah! I can't even tell you how hard it was for me to not get up and dance with you guys, you guys looked like you were having so much fun and the soloist was so so so great, I loved her. I loved "Signed Sealed and Delivered" I loved the soloists voice, she added so much to that song, she was so good. The last part of your show was good. You guys do tap so well, and the dance soloist is just amazing, pretty sure he'll be famous some day. I loved your show, and I wish I could see you again. Congrats on a well deserved win.

Millennium: You guys have gotten so good! Its crazy, I loved your show last year, but this year was just so fantastic! I love your opener, that song always makes me wanna move. Your second song was by far my favorite out of you whole show, it was so different, and entrancing, I loved it. Your disco part at the end was really fun and energetic. Your vocals are so good, and I love your guy's opening costumes, they play well off each other. Keep up the good work.

Papillion-La Vista/ Free Spirit: I have to comment on your show. I was really surprised you didn't make finals, because I loved your show. You guys were so incredibly good, you were like the first group of the day to really catch my attention, you guys were wonderful. The dancing was awesome throughout the entire show, and the soloist during the ballad was fantastic. I am so glad that I got to watch you guys, I really really like your show.

Congrats to everyone again. It was so awesome to be able to watch all of you. Thanks for making this a great competition!

Well, I just got back since I had the luxury of staying over night Anyway, this was a fantastic competition! I remember being bummed that we weren't going to Hastings again, but this was definitely a nice change, and I'm glad our directors had us compete here.

Wow, the groups that competed here....were just phenomenal. I mean wow.

I unfortunately didn't get a chance to see that many groups, but I will comment on the ones I did see and the ones I have seen at other competitions this season:

Ankeny Visual Adrenaline: Holy crap. You are FANTASTIC! I had forgotten how impecibly clean your choreography is and how heavenly your vocals sound! Definitely the best group there. I usually am not a huge fan of tap numbers, but yours was unique in that it also incorporated other, more difficult choreography along with the tap. NICE kickline too! Quite a few GREAT soloists! Really clean opener as well. Congrats on the GC and the winning streak!

Linn-Mar 10th Street Edition: I didn't see you here, but I attended Viterbo (though it was a while ago), and LOVED your show there. It was already so clean, so I'm sure it was even cleaner here. I love the opener dresses and the opening solo (unique voice, love the style). I also love your ballad--the 2 language thing makes it really unique. I'm surprised DiAndre didn't get best male soloist, but there were some very great ones that I heard.

Papillion La Vista Free Spirit: I thought you were a shoo-in for finals. I loved your show quite a bit. Really great diction and solid vocals. I really liked the transition from "Ain't Nothin' Wrong With That" to "Vertigo". The only thing I think you might want to think about is the stye of singing for each number. Try and experiment a little. You have a phenomenal choral sound, but I think if you add a little edge to, lets say, the Maroon 5 Medley, it would give you a few more points in the Interpretation category. But that's picky stuff, and I was dissapointed that I wouldn't have another chance to see you again You had such great faces and energy, so keep working hard!

Urbandale Studio 2008: You guys just BLEW ME AWAY! Your 2nd number just blew my mind! Me and John were basically freaking out because the choreography was so incredible. And your vocals overall were, as usual, INCREDIBLE. I can't wait to see you guys at our competition in March!!!

I'd like to thank everyone at Urbandale for all of their great hospitality. You made us feel very welcome The competition was really well-run and organized, so thank you for all of your hard work!

Totino-Grace Encore Singers: I know I'm biased b/c I've seen you all year, but I'd just like to tell you how proud I am of you. You did SO well yesterday, and I could see you leaving it all on the stage yesterday. Everything we cleaned stayed clean, and the vocals were as powerful as I've ever heard them. You set a high bar for everyone (including Company), and I know you will continue to do well this year. Congrats on 3rd place!

Totino-Grace Company of Singers: You know I love you guys, and I'm proud of how we did at this competition. I know 3rd Runner-up was not what we were hoping for, but let me remind you of this: think about how great you felt after we performed in finals. We did the very best we could on that stage, putting out our best performance yet. The results of that are up to the judges, and we don't have any control over that. We had a GREAT performance. Just remember that and feel good about that. Also, 3rd Runner-up is still a great award! Some amazing groups didn't even make it into finals, and I think we should feel good about how we did. Yes, falling from 2nd to 4th is hard, but that does NOT mean we didn't have a great performance. It just means that the groups that placed higher than us really kicked it up a notch in Finals. If groups are going to move up, some groups have to move down, and unfortunately we moved down. I don't want to say "just let it go" because I think we can learn something from this competition. There are a lot of groups out there that are having fantastic seasons. Its hard for judges to pick the best group when there is so much talent out there. We are still doing very well this year, and we will continue to work hard at practice. Don't hang your heads; be proud of the group and how you did personally.

Anyway, I know that a lot of people from various choirs (as well as the fans watching) weren't feeling very well yesterday. I hope that you all feel better soon and that the colds don't continue to spread around your choirs. Thanks for coming out to support us anyway, even if you weren't feeling 100%.

That's all for now, but thanks again Urbandale! Congrats to everyone

As an SCC special, I have decided to give only SCCers access to a special blog. A semi-live blog. I will update this throughout the day. I have tried, and will continue to try to updatge this from Urbandale High School with no luck, so I am forced to update it from my hotel some 5 miles away.

Anyway here is the link, if you want to check it out. http://www.show choiria.com/semiliveblog.htm

Sorry about that. They were moving all of the network servers from the old building to the new building and consequently the wireless network was down pretty much all day on Saturday.

Ok so first off, congrats to everyone. I was there from Papillion till finals were awarded. It was a great competition.

Here's how I would have had finals turning out (not that it really means anything):
GC-Ankeny (BV,BC)
1RU-Totino
2RU-Kennedy
3RU-Johnston (close behind Kennedy)
4RU-Waukee
5RU-Linn-Mar

Ankeny- It was my first time seeing you guys even though we've competed against you twice. You guys perform your show excellently and its really polished. I just felt like I didn't see any heart in it. But overall, you guys were definitely the best show choir there.

Kennedy- I wasn't sure what to expect because of Johnston's competition but I was really impressed. I'm a huge Drowsy Chaperone fan and when I saw you were doing "Toledo Suprise" I was a litte worried because I wasn't sure how it was going to do as a show choir song, but I liked it alot. I usually hate reprises but I thought yours was hilarious.

Johnston- Great improvement from Onalaska! Your vocals are great, they were at Onalaska too but there was no diction. There was definitely diction this weekend. You guys changed your ballad, right? It was good. You guys definitely impressed me.

Waukee- I talked to Mr. Huth after it was all over and you guys have definitely come a long ways in 2 years! Your show was really fun to watch. I thought "Walk the Dinosaur" was really fun and energetic. Best of luck to you guys.

Linn-Mar- I have never seen you guys in my 10 years of going to competitions, which I think is weird. I really liked your opener. It was really unique. Is that a Celtic Women song? And I really liked the ballad as well. You sang it really well and that soloist was great. I just felt like the choreo in the closer got out of control.

Totino- What can I say? I love you guys. Seriously, it goes ATSC then Totino. Obviously, now everyone can see I'm a little biased, but I've seen all 5 of your competition performances, and this finals was top notch. I was so happy for you guys after that performance. Its gonna be sad not seeing you guys next week. Maybe I'll just wear my new favorite tshirt. haha

If you want to know more specifically what I or ATSChicks thought (although I don't know why you would care) just PM us.

Mr. Woodin and Mr. Temple- This competition was great! I thought it was excellently run. The schedule ran really smoothly and I loved being out of there before 11. I hope I can come back again when the auditorium is done. It was a great competition in the gym, a little different than what I remember when it got postponed and put in the auditorium. Thanks a lot, it was definitely worth the drive and the cash.
