Actually there is a typo in the program. Hot, Hot, Hot is a different number than the heat medley

yah I knew they were different songs. I just figured they put it in the program like Clinton's Elvis Medley in 2003. at show choir nationals they put it as one big medley, even though there were numerous songs.

Thanks all of you ATSC kids! Your'e awesome! A special thanks to our hosts for being so great! You even ran back to our hotel to get someone's shoes! You rock! Congrats to all the groups! There are not enough good things to say about everyone's performances! As usual, what a great comp!

Ok here are my thoughts about this competition (groups in order of performance). Bear in mind these are my OPINIONS and I'm sure a lot of people will not like what I have to say.... but whatever:

The day round acoustics were HORRIBLE. Idk what the sound people were thinking but you could barely hear anyone sing, except Sioux City East (I didn't make Mitchell's day show) No band was heard, at least not very well. But something happened with the sound before finals and everyone sounded better.

Papillion LaVista: I thought you guys came out and started the show well. I've Got To Groove is such a fun song. I didn't like the arrangement all that much- some of the rhythms were very weird and rushed. The choreography in the opener was well composed, but it was not executed very well. I would say you were the only group I saw all day that wasn't very clean. The vocals were not great, but not horrible but mostly stayed the same level throughout the show. The band was essentially non-existent throughout the entire show. In the middle songs the choreography was sloppy and it wasn't even good choreography to begin with. It was a fun show, but I wasn't really impressed with you guys. Also, your opening shoes were brighter in color than your dresses and that distracted me... lol. I only saw 5 of the groups in day round and I thought you guys would've gotten 4th out of those groups (so basically I placed you where the judges placed you). Your finals performance started really good. You all had a ton of energy, but otherwise it was just the same... not great.

So Westwood didn't show up. But the emcees failed to mention this to the audience, so the audience ended up waiting for 25 minutes to see nothing.... Thanks...

Lewis Central: You guys were DEFINITELY the surprising group of this competition. Your opening dresses were BEAUTIFUL. Definitely the best single costume of the entire competition. Your band throughout the show was tight, very in tune, and overall had a very good blend with the singers. I actually thought you would win best band.... your band was very good. The vocals weren't so hot. The ballad was lovely and well sung, but your vocals in the rest of the songs were pretty weak. However, I LOVED your choreography. I thought Stephen Todd did an excellent job with you guys (as I told him this morning). It was all VERY clean and I thought you guys were really the only group to perform your show, besides Sioux City East. However your vocals were just lacking and so I had put you guys in 6th in day round. I thought your finals performance was soooo much better. The whole show just came alive and was SOOOO much fun to watch. I predicted you would be in 4th in finals. Also, there was this girl in the front row the entire show. SHE WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! OMG I could not keep my eyes off of her. There was also a blonde guy and he was really good too.

Totino-Grace: Your day performance was completely boring to me. You did not sing well, and your choreography wasn't even very good. It was clean, but it wasn't good. I didn't really like the show at all. Your tambourine number is a combination of GCS's novelties from 2002-2004: Ballin the Jack, Gloves, and the Books. I sat there and listed off which move was from which show. It was all really clean, and I'm sure it would've been more exciting had I not seen those GCS shows. Your band was not really impressive to me either round. I know the acoustics were HORRIBLE for bands in the auditorium, but there weren't really sections that the band even played up. Finals was a better performance, definitely. The vocals were better, and the performance was better, but I was just still disappointed in the show. The costumes weren't that great either (except the purple dresses, which I love, but make a ton of noise). I had placed you guys 2nd in day round and 3rd in finals. I thought you had the 3rd best vocals in finals and the 2nd best choreography. I am shocked to see that 3 judges placed you in first. Idk points-wise how far away everyone was from each other, or how far apart each judge scored, but I was really shocked to see 3 judges had you in first. It was just not a winning show.

Grand Island Northwest: You had a very grand show this year. And your vocal volume matched. The volume was impressive but the pitch was not. Your pitch was not good this competition. Especially when your closer went high the pitch was just not there. I liked the Lion King medley. It had a ton of energy, but I didn't really like the arrangement. Also, you had a hard time clearing all your props off-stage. I liked the ballad. I didn't think your choreography was bad at all. I don't really have much to say because I don't really remember your show a whole lot. It didn't have a lot of impact. I remember I thought you maybe could've beaten Totino in day round, but in finals you just didn't have it. I had you placed in 6th after finals, but I am not surprised you got 4th here. You definitely have a lot of potential with the show and I'm excited to see how it goes the rest of the year!

Sioux City East: You were by far the best singers of the day. However, after saying that, I thought your dancing was relatively weak compared to that. I thought you had the 3rd best presentation of the choreography, but I thought the actual composition of the choreography was fairly weak. I thought Lewis Central, Totino-Grace, and Mitchell had better choreography than you. The first half of your show is GREAT!!!! It is full of energy and a really fun show. I LOVED Blue Skies. The soloist was AMAZING and I loved the arrangement. (did they do best solo awards yesterday?) The second half of your show isn't as powerful as the first half. It isn't as clean and it just seems a bit more chaotic than the first half. I think this has been a trend for the past few years, and so i KNOW you will have that all fixed by the end of the season, just as in previous years. I really thought you guys would win and I had you pegged for best vocals. You definitely deserved that award. Congrats on being first in the day round. I know you guys were disappointed with the results, but don't let this bother you. There was some tough competition today and you performed well! Good luck for the rest of the season!

Mitchell: You were the surprise of the competition. Your vocals were very good. Not as good as East's but definitely second best. You definitely had the best choreography out of all of the groups. It was clean, energetic, and well-composed. Your band was also KICKING! They were great! From the beginning of your opener to the end of your closer you had so much energy, both vocally and choreographically. In your lullaby medley when you go into the rock section, I REALLY wish there had been a HUGE dance break there. It would have been so cool and exciting. I personally had you in 2nd after finals, because I liked East's show better, but you definitely did a very good job and I thought that you definitely had a chance to win!!! Congrats and I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the rest of the season!

How I thought things would go:

GC: Sioux City East
1RU: Mitchell
2RU: Totino-Grace
3RU: Lewis Central
4RU: Papillion LaVista
5RU: Grand Island Northwest

Best Vocals: Sioux City East
Best Choreography: Mitchell
Best Band: Lewis Central

I actually ended up having a good time at this competition. All of the finalists were very entertaining, and EVERYONE did well in finals. Congrats to all the groups!

Nick, it was a ton of fun hanging out with you all day, thanks for sitting by me!!!!
Ana, It's been like what? 3 years since we said we should meet and we finally got to it yesterday.... hahaha well it was nice meeting you and we'll have to hang out more sometime soon!
Awesome girl from Lewis Central: I'm the creeper that came up to you after finals, so if you are on here, or anyone else from LC that knows who I'm talking about, say hi to her for me!!

Hey all the groups were amazing! I worked back stage from first to last group of the day, so I dealt with everyone, and I have to say: thank you all so much!

Everyone from the Directors to stage hands, singers, band and parents were just great. You really made my job easy. When I realized exactly how many props and extra stuff we were going to have coming to the competition, I freaked out a little because of our school's lack of storage space. But the dad's and crews were excellent, willing to do what we asked and work with us to make it happen. For the first time in my four years there we had the final announcements ready EARLY! So make sure singers/dancers to thank your crews for being great.

Congrats to everyone who showed up! Totino, you guys did an amazing job! You really put on a show the crowd can love. SSE, as always: excellent. I think you had another shoe malfunction during finals (we found one underneath our stage when we were moving things around for Papio) but you cover it great! Congrats on the Vocals! Mitchell: about time huh? I've watched you for four years at COE, and the last three years I walked away wondering what you weren't doing the judges wanted! I was so excited to see you guys finally got it all together for the judges, and as always, your show was incredibly unique.

Thanks everyone for coming, and I hope you all want to come back next year! We love hosting all these great groups!

Rumor has it that Totino received the following votes in finals: 3 firsts, 1 third, and one sixth.

Sadly, that rumor is true. The only names I can remember off the top of my head for finals rankings are Nancy Allen who had Totino in 1st and Paul Gulsvig who had Totino in 6th.

It sounded like this competition was intense! I heard great things about both Totino and Mitchell's performances. Congrats to all groups.

Usually by the time I'm at COE for more than 12 hours I start getting sick of show choir. Didn't happen this time. This competition went really well.

No. I am not advocating that. I definitely think that would not be the solution at all. I am advocating a rules change for next year and for other competitions as well.

Rumor has it that Totino received the following votes in finals: 3 firsts, 1 third, and one sixth.

As a proponent of the Fehr Fair (Fair Fehr) system, I have to point to this as an example of one judge outweigh the balance of the judging panel. With that system, the consensus (those who have the most first place votes) would win.

but I'd really hate for us to change the system after the fact, then have to take back the trophy and all those medals and give it to another school. Not worth it.
