Mr. Atienza,

As a representative of an all-girls show choir, I'd like to make a comment on improving the "positive atmosphhere." I heard many girls [from Sound Unlimited and other groups as well] talking about this, so I figured that it might be a good thing to mention here for next year.
The slide show at the beginning of the advanced mixed division made the girls groups feel rather left out. With showy lights, references only to mixed groups and a big "Welcome to the Southern California Show Choir Invitational" after the girls groups, I think it set a "It's time for the mixed groups: Now, the competition can start" kind of tone. I hope you'll take that into consideration for 2004.

Amen to that!! When I say I'm from Burroughs, everyone assumes Powerhouse. Us girls work just as hard as the mixed groups (hell, SU seems to work even harder than MM sometimes) and so we deserve a little more credit.

Unfortunately, Julie had a family commitment/ conflict and couldn't be there; but she is only a freshman, so she will be around for a few more years.... The girl that filled in for her did a great job considering that was the first time she had performed that solo. And she is a senior so it was nice that she had an opportunity too at her last competition. Good job Lindsey!!

Speaking of SoCal where was Julie Adams I wanted to hear her sing one more time and was kind of dissapointed to not see her at SoCal . Im not trying to say the girl that sung her solo was bad I just wanted to hear Julie sing one more time.

I loved SoCal! I met shaggy and every1 from vista seemed cool about the goody bags....I love burbanks set! Who do you think you are...Shania Twain? They kept my attention and i couldn't take my eyes off of them. the only reason i was scared to watch burroughs was cuz i was in front of one of the lights so i ducked. " border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ;) " border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> the guys in burbank are really cute and i love the fact that they sang my favorite eve6 song! plus i met shadi (did i spell that right?) and i met kyle from burroughs.

I am happy with the results. I had alot of fun at my last SoCal . I had alot of fun hosting Carlsbad Sound Express with Ileana for the second year in a row . And hosting Burbank with Jason was fun to we went to D'lish and had some pizza and sanwhiches and had to feed Mardene Poverty Girl because she was once again broke, but anyways Burbank Sapphire realy impressed me they only had 9 girls and the sounded good.

I think i need to join this conversation of how GREAT Mr. A is.

Mr. A, I wish that I could have transfered to Chula, just to be under your direction. I know you never would have told me that i wasnt a strong singer when i would have asked you for a recommendation letter... like someone else i know. You are one of the sweetest people I have met through show choir and i know that your students love you and think your an amazing director. You have so many fans. Not just from your own school, but from many other schools as well. I loved your surprise at Chula!!! You sounded great!

HMMMM......I respect your opinion but I also think that our shows are a lot more entertaining than the same old show choir show....dont get me wrong when you guys throw together pop songs and sequins filled shows they can be entertaining, but they can also get pretty old, and I know that when Vista takes the stage we wake people up because we are so different and we enjoy being that choir that gets all the applause from the audience for being unique.  We have just as much talent as your choir, we put all aspects of performing into our shows, acting, dancing, and singing.  We  just prefer to showcase our talent in a different way.

Okay well this is how I see it..... It was my opinion and although you are stating your own, to know both sides is a good idea. I see that "musical like sets" can be very entertaining. I went to New York this year and was able to see Union Highschool from New Jersey who had an amazing Newsies set. But I do have to say after seeing it once I was perfectly satisfied. After seeing it a second time I was quite bored. Although the set was amazing and they did a terrific job it just wasn't what I had gone to New York to see. I had gone to see a Show choir competition. In my eyes and actually in the eyes of a lot of other people Show choir is kids singing and dancing to a variety of songs ... not a variety of songs that make up a musical. You said that you know when Vista takes the stage you make people wake up because you are so different. I woke up yes, but only through the first song. Then I got incredibly bored and wanted to fall asleep. And I know that many others around me and people that I talked to as well felt the same way. You said that sequined filled shows can get boring too ... well yes they can. Especially when choirs do the same song as another choir. That gets very dull. I didn't mention regular show choirs did I? Just wondering.

I do not believe I ever stated anything along the lines of my choir having more talent than yours. If you took anything I said that way Im very sorry, but your very very wrong. In fact I believe I complimented you on your singing if I do remember correctly. I said one thing about dancing... and I believe that was that I believe you dance more than you sing. I never said anything about it being bad dancing. Personally I think your choir has a lot of talent and you do show it, but most of my thoughts were on the fact that you bored me.

Please do not take offense of what I have said, because there are a lot of other choirs that bore me as well. Its not just yours. I thought there were a lot of choirs who didn't reach their potential this year. Your choir being one of them. I commend you for your singing in other languages and the sound you created. The dancing was spectacular too. But I still keep my opinion on being bored.
