Well I got back into town around 5:30 today. Needless to say we at Xavier were not at all happy with our performance (and we recognize that our placement matches the quality of how we performed, so no complaints there) but it was still a great opportunity to see some amazing groups.

I watched almost every group after us and I must say... for me there were two groups that I absolutely loved, Wheaton-Warrenville and Sioux City East. I'm a little disappointed to see that The Headliners got 5RU, but I was glad to see them make finals. They sang better than any other group, and by a pretty solid margin too, in my opinion. As for W-W, I was hoping that they would win but I wasn't too confident in that. Great to see they got GC! Congratulations to them.

If you saw Xhilaration in Onalaska I really hope you get the chance to see us again in the future. A combination of factors made this our "Great River" for this season We all were disappointed with our show on Saturday, and it does not represent our full abilities which is disappointing.

I didn't say anything about BG's vocals- I just said I think they moved well, and that Randy is a great fit for them.

Sorry. Misread it. That is what i get for coming right onto SCC with limited to no sleep

Anyone have any constructive criticism for our show? It's always great to hear what people have to say and what their suggestions are. I (or Ana most likely) will share your comments with the group when we talk about the competition tomorrow or Thursday at practice.
Thank you for all your support yesterday, I know we all appreciate it

Wheaton Warrenville “The Classics”-
All I can think right now is “Holy Smokies”. I was of course sitting with
an entire row of show choir junkies while watching your performance and I
can safely say you were the only show choir to completely “move” us all
day. The sound you produce is simply out of this world. It was in a
totally different stratosphere than any other choir competing there
yesterday. It may very well be the best vocal performance I have ever
heard live (John Burroughs 2004 was amazing as well). I can’t believe a
group of your size and youth produced such an outstanding sound. The
ballad, “Anyway”, was simply stunning. It was spot on in day round. I
was pretty much freaking out, the other junkies were too. When the choir
first came in, we all knew we were in for something really special. By
the end, I was fighting off some tears… and when it finally finished; our
entire row was standing up applauding and cheering. I have NEVER given a
standing ovation in the middle of a show before, and always find it weird
when people do, but please ask each and every one of us in our row that
gave you it, and you’ll find that it was well deserved. I sat down and
all we could do was chuckle. I was simply giddy from the fact that this
choir got on stage and actually sang! Along with buying the finals DVD, I
will most definitely be purchasing your prelims performance.
I should probably hit on something else besides your awesome vocals. The
choreography was great... very clean, very sharp, and VERY energetic. In
my opinion, the costumes were the best costumes of the competition. There
was a lot of improvement in your choreography from day round to finals.
You all have such vibrant faces while performing and you can tell that you
all give 110%. Congrats on the win… I can not wait to see you all again
in 6 days at Mt. Zion. We are making it a requirement for the West kids
to go in and watch you. They will be flabbergasted just as I was to the
caliber that you all are at. Mr. Burlace… congrats to you on the
wonderful work you have done! I’m glad I got to meet you yesterday and
share my appreciation in person. I’m sorry “Great River” was full… but I
hope you guys attend next year. The competition won’t be the same without
y’all.

Bufflo Grove- But the singing, i have to disagree with Ana. It was so quiet. I felt like i couldn't clap or anything otherwise we wouldn't be able to hear you.

I assume you mean originally, it was written by Jason Robert Brown but the version that we have been listening to as "our version" was done by David Burnham. It's on iTunes. He's awesome.

You gave me both people i was looking forward too, haha. I am a bit sleep deprived from this crazy weekend and didn't make a whole lot of sence. Thank you so much!

This was such a fun competition!
Thanks everyone @ Onalaska for being such an amazing host school!
I was really happy to be able to watch a bunch of shows, and see people we don't normally see.
The only bad thing was when they ran out of walking tacos :[

Wow - what a day! Some surprises, some met expectations - and a new favorite.

I didn't have a chance to read some of the Friday comments in this thread before I went to the contest on Sat., so I had no idea that Wheaton Warrenville was being touted the way they were. I've enjoyed seeing them for the past few years, and thought if they continued to grow as they have that they would at least be a top 6 contender.

They were MORE than a contender, and I'm happy to see the actual scores indicated as much as well. Heads and tails the leader (and over all winner) - and personally one of the most enjoyable shows I've seen in the past few years. How I wish they'd go to Sullivan or FAME Chicago to knock on Clinton's door, I thought they were that good - and it's only January!

What impressed me most was their singing - a big, full, rich, blended, balanced sound in PARTS - and with only 43 singers, they were accomplishing that with in some cases 10 singers (or more) LESS than some of the other competitors. And yet with all that energized Dwight choreography, and a solid band that knew how to back them up. A+++++ stuff going on there. I can't wait to see them again. They have a song called "The Real Deal" - and they are indeed, the real deal.

Of course, a special shout out to Johnston - a good start. Surely, 8th (or 9th - er, um - whatever) wasn't quite the validation they were seeking, but in this field - it wasn't a bad start at all with all the changes they've endured. The show has a lot of good material that should yield some great things as the season goes on. They have a month til their next competition - I hope they got lots of useful comments to work on, and I'll be anxious to see the show at the Urbandale contest.

Disappointed, and even with time violation issues excluded - a bit puzzled - that Totino was shut out of finals. So much entertainment, I'm looking forward to seeing them at Urbandale as well - I suspect things will be quite different for both groups there...

ALRIGHT!!!

I just got back from this wild weekend. I would have to say this is probly one of the best competitions I have been to. It was run very well, the groups were amazing and the food was good... even if they didn't have the walking tacos (a must for any good competition)

We ran late and i didn't get to the school until right after Xavier (megan forgot her camera so we turned around and then got stuck at 2 trains... )

there are a few groups I want to comment on so I will do so now...

Waconia- WOW! I saw you guys a few years back, 05, the famous Blue Man group year. The last few years seem to have been a little rough for you but I have to say that I am VERY pleased to see where you are at this year. I was very happy to see the show selection and how you performed, reminded me of that year with the energy and everything. Good job Mr. Olsen and Damon!

Johnston- You guys looked very solid and I loved the pink dresses. Good to see the director change seems to be doing well for you.

Totino Grace- You never cease to amaze me. Your show is good and sadly you had the prop malfunctions and the time penelty. I have always and will always been a fan and supporter. You have a lot of potential and I can't WAIT to see you at Kennedy. I think your next competition you will show that this was just a hard first outing. And it doesn't help that at this competition any mistake was the difference between finals and 7th place. But congrats on the best band! You were one the best out there and always are. And i think i saw a few of you SCCers walking around from Totino. BTW- good job Wes on the solo.

MTZ- I will have to be honest. When i first saw you in the day rounds I wasn't impressed. I have only seen you a few times live before but it wasn't what i was expecting. The show seemed like something good but I felt like you were missing something. but then you got into finals and I would have to say that you proved me totally wrong. You improved leaps and bounds. I have to say that the novelty was fun and new (to me.) wasn't a huge fan of the light up jackets personally but when you guys get even more clean it will show it. I have to say that I am in love with the punk/rocker chick in the front row. So controled with her dancing and fun!

EEE- I loved your show. Like MTZ the day round performance wasn't the best but the night round i was stunned. I think everything improved and earned the 2nd place! Your guys song was great and so was the soloist. Great closing costumes and I had high expectations (you can thank Adam Peters) and you lived up to it!

Hastings- I always like your shows. Fun and different. Andrew Cao did a great job. Adam Miller said you had a wonderful guys sound and so true. The best of the guy. I think the show flowed better then i had heard. The boxing actually was one of my favorites. I can't wait to see how you guys do later on in the year!

Omaha- I did enjoy your show, looked clean and sang well, but... i felt you guys digressed from the day round. Loved your ballad.

Sioux City East- I got to meet a lot of you kids this weekend because of who i was with. And got to know Mr. Weber more as a director (I met him briefly last year) and I am very impressed with where you guys are. The whole show is great and the final product will be amazing. The biggest problem is the filler songs. You are split up and the sound is almost killed. If you buy into the songs a bit more the songs will be great. I hope to get out to see you guys agian!

Wheaton Warrenville- O.M.G. One of the best shows. Ever. The ballad was stunning. The soloist made me melt. You kids seemed so happy to win and it was well deserved. Everything was together, and just perfect. Good luck next week, i know you have what it takes to win again.

Bufflo Grove- This is the first time I have seen you guys live and the dancing that you guys had was done very well. But the singing, i have to disagree with Ana. It was so quiet. I felt like i couldn't clap or anything otherwise we wouldn't be able to hear you. I know you don't have any choice over a closer, but can you change it? There wasn't any energy and it was so quiet. Nothing you want to end on. I was hoping for a little bit more. Good luck on the other year and i hope you can get better and change some stuff up. But I did like that you stayed for finals to cheer on the other groups.

wow, so now i am going to go to Facebook and load up all my pictures from this weekend (300+ no joke)

This Competition was amazing and very enjoyable to attend. We did our best, and I am very proud of Company. Also Congratulations to our band. Hastings you made Minnesota proud! My favorite show to watch was Mt. Zion's. Your novelty number was amazing and had me on the edge of my chair and then with the LED light jackets major props for that. I thought this competition had very many talented groups and was excited to see you all. Congratulations to all!

Congrats to everyone! This was a really fun comp to watch. I spent the morning near the back in the chairs, and I was really excited to sit on the bleachers during finals.

And Ana, if it is any consolation...When I was watching your show, I couldn't tell that you were missing any puppets.
