Quick question, and I am not sure if anybody knows the answer to this yet, but is the culminating FAME event going to always remain in Indianapolis, or will it travel... like around the nation. Sorta like the olympics... do you know what I mean?

Well, time to give my little bit.

I'm disappointed that this was my last competition, but not for the reasons you may think. Yes, I am sad I didn't get to perform the show one last time in finals, but that's secondary to my true disappointment.
For me, show choir has always been about the local competitions, the students welcoming choirs into their school in the mornings, the hectic, too-crowded atmosphere, the home-town crowd cheering for an exhibition performance by the host choirs. In my short three years of show choir, I've come to love those competitions like Hastings, Waconia, Linn-Mar. I say these three because I'm familiar with them. I'm sure that everyone in show choir, around the nation, has competitions like these that they can relate to. See, at those competitions, the focus isn't about money, or even winning. The friendly air of competition is enough to make anyone's hair stand on edge, draw you to the edge of your seat at the climactic moment of the ballad. These local competitions are what show choir is truly all about. And however much FAME will try to emulate these competitions, in the end they will always fail, because they don't know what it's all about.
I am by no means criticizing FAME for the way the run their competitions. Both in Chicago and Indianapolis, the competitions went by with hardly a noticeable mistake or hitch. I thank them for the chance to compete against groups, at their competitions, that I may never have seen otherwise.
In the end, though, FAME is not a school. They don't have their own show choir. And however much they may claim to be in it for the students, at the end of the day FAME, like any other corporation, is in it for themselves, for the money. They do what they need to do to continue to draw groups back. I'm not blaming them for that; such is the way of business.

But, like I've said, when years have passed me by, it's not the FAME events that I'm going to remember. I know I'm not alone in this belief, and I hope to remind everyone out there of the simple joy of cheering on a host choir, or even competitors, regardless of standings, of snacking on some food made by parents, flawed, imperfect, yet personal, and of enjoying what show choir is truly all about.

I thank everyone involved in the show choir community, both here and around the US, and especially everyone in my own Company of Singers, for the three greatest years of my life. Keep on rockin' it guys.

Wow. This is amazing. :')

I am still trying to find out why or should I say how Totino-Grace managed to not make finals in Indianapolis at a National Champioship that they should have been favored to win? Jerry

A.J-I quoted you above, but then failed to get my reply posted...what a class act you are, which is why I love the Company of Singers so much. Even in the dissapointment, every performer shows class. Thanks for your eloquent comments, and best of luck to you at Creighton!

Thank you, Fame, for an interesting experience. I suppose the one thing we can all take from this is sometimes they just don't like your style. Its been a great four years in show choir and a great three years as a part of Company of Singers; I wish I could leave on a higher note, but I guess you can say I've built character.

Peace out Show Choir, I'll miss you too.

Congratulations to every group who participated in the FAME regionals and finals this year. As a director I was initially intrigued by the entire concept, and after participating in it with my Brea Olinda groups this year I must say thank you to the FAME organization, to all of the adjudicators, to all of the participating groups and their staffs and especially to the parents of all of our groups for supporting music in the schools.
I don't think the day will come when any one set of adjudicators no matter how qualified understand all groups' sets equally. Adjudicating show choirs is every bit as subjective as it is objective and for that reason we all need to accept the verdicts and move on. We know each adjudicator is doing the best they can. I'm sure every group wants to win, and deserves to based on their strongest suits, and I hope at some point you all get that experience. We were very impressed with every competing group and wish you the best. Again, thank you to FAME for setting up such an exciting and memorable experience for all of us.

Let me start off by first saying congrats to every group that made it to this event! Every group that performed was of top caliber and performed as such. I thought the compeition in it's self was great! Great location conveniently placed next to several great food places, an awesome work shop with the cast from American Idiot, great special performances. I loved this event! I understand that it was not perfect but for it being the first time I thought it went well! My biggest dissapointment is that I made sure that I avoided seeing any video of Totino Grace on Youtube and was dead set on seeing them! Then when I got back from lunch I found out that they had already went and then they didn't make finals! So first off congrats on a great season TG. Be extremly proud of yourselves!

Onto the finalists *warning this might get lengthy*

Center Grove- So when I saw you guys at Teays Valley I had to leave the room because I was just overwhelmed. But I was much more open minded this time and I have to say that I really enjoyed your show! Opener was a classic show choir performance and you performed it as such! The female soloist was exceptional and the vocals were fantastic! The show continued to not dissapoint! I Love Me and Macho man were exceptionally entertaining and the ballad ws much stronger than day time. I found that your choreo was very clean with the exception of a few parts so I wasn't very suprised that you guys had one best choreo! Congrats on a job well done!

Brea Olinda- THIS was my favorite show of the entire day! Great energy, great vocal moments, awesome song selection, and some fun choreography! You guys had me at "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"! In my opinion I thought you guys had the best ballad of the night. When the sopranos came in with the wake me up section I was getting chills. And you just kept those chills coming with your beautiful vocals. The rest of the show was so energetic it was clear that you guys loved this show and I don't blame you!!! The only thing is that it might have been too energetic and might have lost you points. But I don't care I still loved the energy that you all gave! The one question I have is what was your theme? I got the 21 Guns part which pulled on my heart strings but as a whole what was it about? I need to see you guys again next year! Congrats on an awesome season!

WWS- Congratulations on being the first National Show Choir Champions! You guys had a solid SOLID performance. The whole package was there at finals. Great clean choreography, a good blend in vocals with many great vocal things happening, and an awesome band to back you up. The energy was kept contained but still apparent and strong. I did however hear just small random problems in blending and I think that may have been because of how hot the mics were. Again congratulations and can't wait to see you guys again next year!

Fairfield- I'll be honest. When I first saw your show at Marysville "Showcase" I didn't like it. It didn't make much sense to me and I just couldn't connect with the show at all. This was a completly different story. I loved the show. You guys performed with such intensity right from the first step that the guys take. The complete change in song selection for your ballad was what changed my mind. The Generation quartet made much more sense to me after the new ballad was performed! Which set me up for the rest of the show! Your vocals were very strong and consistent throughout the entirety of the show. I love the choreography especially for "I'm gonna rip it off". Band caption was yours from the start. Congrats on an amazing season and I look forward to seeing you guys next year!

Mt. Zion- I have not seen you guys since I was a Freshman in high school. Which is the reason why I was suprised you guys had taken best vocals. I always knew you guys as a choreography group which made me really only focus on your choreo. But then I listened to your performance during the finals and I coudn't agree more with Best Vocals. Yeah I'm asking to be flamed but I strongly disagree with previous comments. I thought the girls sound was the best sound of the night. They had some of the best tone and blend that I've heard from a high school show choir. It was consistent during the majority of your show which is understandable you can't sing beautifully every moment of the show. But the group as a whole sang great and danced great! I can only imagine that the scores between you and Wheaton were extremly close! The one problem other than not knowing how your magic trick worked is that the closer kinda started and was over extremly quick. The speed of "More" might have made you guys get carried away with energy and lose some choreo and vocal points. Congrats on a great show and a great season! Hope to see you guys again soon!

I was very impressed with FAME. I thought this was one of the most smoothly run competitions I've been to. It was a little offtime but that was because of a few technical problems and some scoring things if I'm correct. My big complaint is that they should have closed the doors between performances. People kept shouting and the doors were open and I was distracted a few times by it. Can't wait till a new season of show choir!

I have been reading the posts on this competition for a while now and I just have one thing to say. Just because the results didn't turn out as expected doesn't mean they aren't credible. When an athlete wins a medal in the olympics unexpectedly they aren't put down. They are said to have stepped up to the challenge. Every choir at this competition had the same chance to win or place....that's why we had the competition isn't it. If not then we could have just picked favorites or "who we think deserved" to win and award the medals based on that. No actual performance necessary. Sound silly? Of course!

All the choirs there worked hard to get to the competition and were judged on their performance at that particular time on that particular day. To say any group didn't deserve their place or that another was more deserving negates their work and efforts. Mt Zion has been competitive all year and their vocals have steadily improved. Just because they are known more for choreo doesn't mean they can't sing really well too. CG was really clean and very entertaining and just because these two choirs placed higher than expected doesn't mean the judging was wack or that they didn't deserve it.

All the choirs performed like pros and all should be very proud to have been able to compete in such a great venue. On April 30, 2011 it just so happened that Wheaton- Warrenville were the best followed by Mt Zion and Center Grove. Maybe on another day the results would have been different but that's the way it all played out so Congrats to the Winners and the placers. They were the best that day!

I don't usually post but I was fotunate enough to be able to attend this event and got to see every choir. All I can say is WOW...each and every one brought something to the table that made them worthy or being finalists. The mutifaceted amount of talent was amazing!!

When they announced the finalists...I guess I wasn't in shock. Probably because I haven't been involved in show choir for several years and have no ties to any one group.

As far as the judging goes...that was one thing that impressed me the most. I was reading the program and I thought to myself that it looked like a fantastic panel for a national competition. I mean you have award winning directors/educators from the west coast, east coast and the midwest plus a broadway star and throw in someone who is working in the music business...seems like you couldn't get a more qualified group of people to judge a national competition.

I think by saying who should have gotten something and who shouldn't have gotten something is an opinion that everyone is entitled to...but nothing should be taken away from a group that was given their earned honor. Not one caption suprised me...as I said before...each group brought something to the table.

Again...my friends and I thank each and every group who gave us a competition worth every bit of the 60 dollars. We literally sat in awe at everyones talent! I also have to say that this was a competition filled with the classiest group of students, parents and fans who all seemed to support each other. Congrats to all who competed yesterday

Nationals was absolutely AMAZING, even if people disagree with the outcome, it was an incredible experience. Just being at the event, and being surrounded by such talented choirs is something that I am always going to remember. Every single group that went to this competition deserved their spot, and everyone performed incredibly. :]

Brea Orlinda:
I loved all the Green Day music you incorporated in your show. It was really unique, and definitely stood out at the competition to me. Great theme, and great character you brought to the show.

Center Grove:
You guys were amazing, as usual! I got the change to see you guys at Fame Branson, and the show still up to par at Nationals. I love how classy the opening number is. And your guy's number? HILARIOUS. Loved it. Definitely one of my favorite guy's numbers I have seen this year.

Fairfield:
LOVED YOUR SHOW. :] Definitely one of my favorites from the day. I love the intensity that you bring from the opening number, and the amount of energy you all have. You left me on the edge of my seat. Basically, you rocked my socks off.

Mt Zion:
I would just like to say that I am so proud of your choir, despite everything you guys have been going through, you stayed strong and put on an incredible show. Your ballad was amazing and SO touching. I'm so happy that you won best female soloist for this song. I'm keeping all of you in my prayers and heart. Love you all.

Wheaton:
Congrats on winning Grand Champion! You guys did a great job, and were definitely worthy of winning. You had some really interesting song choices, I loved the creativity of "The Best Things Happen While You Dance" :]

And lastly, Totino Grace, you guys were awesome. Even if you didn't make it to finals, you put on a great show and I hope that you realize how talented all of you are. That being said, every single group that made it to finals deserved their spots, even if it didn't turn out the way people expected. I vote we stop complaining about who did and didn't make it to finals, while it may not have been your personal preference, I don't think we should take anything away from the groups who did make it. Totino Grace, you were all SO nice and I loved meeting all of you at the hotel!

It was a crazy weekend, but I had SO much fun watching all these talented choirs and making new friends. :] The awards ceremony was awesome, I loved the crazy lights, dance party, mosh pit, and CONGA LINE.

I'm sorry, but im still upset over this. I understand that what happened is not going to change the results of this year BUT someone needs to stand up when things go wrong. Company of singers got screwed over. with no ansers. that is messed up. Company- your ridiculously incredible and talented. Things got screwed up. You were easily top three overall.

Dear Fame- lets do this right next year. . .

Essentially, what you're really saying is that the judges don't have credibility - not FAME. FAME didn't decide who made it and who didn't, they are just putting on the event.

Frankly, I know several of the judges personally and they are all super stand up people. I think declaring that anyone has "lost credibility" has just lost credibility.

FAME did, however, choose the judges for the "true" national competition. They also decided to have the most qualified judges on the panel not judge vocals or visuals (in preliminaries) which is 70% of the sheet.
