Pete does his rounds to local show choirs to help them out still, and he of course still judges plenty. He directs a pretty good Varsity Men's Chorus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln too.

One of my favorite choirs has been his University Singers... the rep we sang in that choir... " border="0" alt="wub.gif" />

My thumbs up is so beautiful... Cam's hand holding the cookie is too. We should be hand models.

I sure wish he would come and critique us at practice that would be awesome! however I am sure he is very busy and in Nebraska so that idea is out!

Mr. Dyrland isn't one that I know from back then. The primary one that I'm friends with is Jennifer Morris who directed at Urbandale. She was in WSD from 95-97, so they know each other though. I think they did some catching up at Kennedy last year where we both competed. All of the rest that I know I became acquainted with through either Jennifer or Anne Chapman. Anne attended Ft. Madison High School and was in their show choir about that same time, so she's buddies with a bunch of the WSD kids who were around at the same time.

Is Lincoln Southwest competing anywhere that we'll be this year? I'd really like to see you guys again.

I don't believe we cross paths, which is really too bad. I'm trying my darndest to make it to Johnston tomorrow so at least maybe I can see you guys.

Wow, crazy. That's exactly how Mr. Dyrland conducts our rehearsals. That's not to say we're anything like the old WSD, but I suppose it makes sense--he was in the group from 94-96, I believe.. I may be wrong about the dates. It's always interesting to work with Dr. Eklund when he comes to visit us, or vice versa. It's creepy, how alike they are, in the way they lead rehearsals and conduct. Like Dyrland once explained it, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

The big red singers are great, but it would be really interesting experiment to see Eklund go to a small high school somewhere and spend two years directing a show choir. I wonder how dependent a show choir's success is on their director?

Just my two cents. Is Jonathan Dyrland one of your old WSD friends, Mr. Temple? He's mentioned you and your choir from time to time, but I didn't know if/that you guys were pals.

Pete used to have a pair of drumsticks that he clacked together to keep the beat while they cleaned choreography without the backup music. My old WSD friends still flinch and cringe when they hear drumsticks clicked together. They used to learn and perfect their shows 8 measures at a time. They'd work 8 measures until it was perfect both visually and vocally. Then they'd do the same with the next 8 measures. Then they'd put those 16 measures together. Then they'd perfect the next 8 measures. Then they'd put all 24 measures together. They'd continue like that until the song was completed. You can see how tedious that would be, but it made them nearly flawless. Anybody wanna rehearse like that every time? I have to give credit to Dr. Eklund for having the patience to work that way. I would probably lose my mind after about 2-3 rehearsals, but they were the gold standard of Iowa show choir for probably two decades.

I remember, though not as much as Mr. Temple, the days of Pete at Jefferson. With my sister (and later me) competing with a rival show choir, we would face Jefferson nearly every year, especially at Urbandale. Pete always had a wall of sound, instrumentally and vocally. Sometimes it was brick, sometimes it was feathers. They choreography was always impeccably clean, including arm angles, feet angles, body position, etc. Remember, they tied with Clinton at Showstoppers.

To answer the question, is West Side improving year by year? Yes. Will they reach a level that they have attained in their history? Who knows?

A little aside, as a big fan, of the rival show choir, I attended a middle school that eventually feeds their majority of the kids to Jefferson. One day, I was walking down the hall, and lo and behold, Pete is coming the other way. So as I approach, I say "Hi Pete", he looks down at me like who is this snot-nosed little kid and why does he know me. I thought it was hilarious at the time.

I remember my older sister and my friends older brother was in WSD in 97' and ever since then we have practiced being westsiders! So one day we could be that tradition its sorta geeky but hey I think we all love show choir here! I don't know about Dr. Eklund but Mr. Eley ROCKS!!! He is so awesome, and im in the band so I think were still getting better lol!

I didn't take Cory's question as defensive at all. He's new to SCC and it's a fair question. It's not his fault that he didn't know Adam (aka Jorge) was the ruler of the midwest forums. (Said with all love and respect...please don't think I'm being churlish here.)

WSD was amazing back in the Eklund days. I'm old enough to have friends that were in those groups. Their rehearsals were brutal and tedious to get that good though. Pete used to have a pair of drumsticks that he clacked together to keep the beat while they cleaned choreography without the backup music. My old WSD friends still flinch and cringe when they hear drumsticks clicked together. They used to learn and perfect their shows 8 measures at a time. I don't want to get the bio wrong, but I think prior to C.R. Jefferson Dr. Eklund's background was in instrumental music. That might explain why they always had the most amazing backup bands that were huge even by today's standards. They had like a complete orchestra back there backing them up. They pretty much always had timpani drums and chimes back there along with like 15-20 horn players, piano, bass, trap set and a couple of string players.

Oh I didn't take it as "defensive" either. I found it to be worded a lil rudely, but I think I answered his question.

I had to clean this year to a director beating two drumsticks together.... It drove me crazy, but it actually works! Dr. Eklund is a smart, smart man, but that does seem extreme.

Oh, and welcome to scc Cory.

Actually, it's amazing what you can find with a simple Google search:

It seems you can order it right from their web site... Simple enough!

Thank you!

From what I can see at the web site, it's Nepo Productions

http://www.linnmarsupernova.org/Video%20Sales%202009.htm

However, when I open the link for the order form, they don't have an address listed - which is certainly a problem. I was thinking of ordering one myself, but someone is going to have to help us with this one!

http://www.linnmarsupernova.org/Documents/...tions%20LLC.pdf

Anyone know the address we should be mailing this to?

As for being a "ruler" of the midwest forums. I would not really call it that, but I do like to post and voice my opinion. A lot. It sometimes gets people angry at me or privately PMing me, but... all is fair in love and show choir.

I honestly meant nothing more by my comment, Adam. It was my lame attempt at a joke about the sheer volume of posts you've had over the years...nothing more, nothing less.
