If you have a good band, why not feature it? Its no different from featuring a soloist or a dance break.

Yeah, that's the point. They're lucky they have such a good band to feature!

Moving on boys-

I'd love to hear thoughts on shows from prelims.

This is from what I saw in prelims:

First of all I'd like to start out by saying that the prep group performances of Ankeny, Urbandale, and Xavier were outstanding. Very clean choreo, solid vocals (lacking in sound, but taking into account they are still young) and wonderful performing. I think this is really a testament to the dedication and level of skill at all levels of show choir now a days. Show choir is popularity, and it’s getting even harder to make varsity groups. Congrats to all the kids from those groups!

Now from the groups I saw in day rounds (varsity)

City High - I really liked your opener! It was a cool and original song and the choreo was really fun and innovative. I could tell it was a really fun song to do. I think you guys can do really well this year if you work on the second half of your show.

Urbandale - It's great to see you guys are still Urbandale. Clean choreography, great men’s sound, and very professional. Congrats on not showing us that it was a transition year. My only critique would be that you're women's sound was a tad weak at times, but that's just about it.

Wheaton Warrenville - Wow! That’s really the only word that can describe it. That guy's opener is fantastic. Amazing vocals, cool ballad, hard and clean choreography. I could definitely tell it was your first performance though. Transitions were a little rough at night, and I thought day rounds was I little higher energy. But still, you guys were amazing. A well earned and deserved win!

Ankeny - I saw you guys in night rounds and your opener was great! The choreography was also really clean.

Muscatine - I'm pretty disappointed I didn't get to see you perform! I will this weekend though!

Great competition though. I had a blast!

Wheaton- This was the first time I have ever seen them live and it was soooooo amazing I knew right from the start of the opening number that they would be a contender for GC. I can't wait to see how the rest of their season goes!!!!

Congrats to all groups! I imagine a very very tough comp! Xavier is really starting to make a name for themselves. There were some great groups here. Also a Congrats to WW coming here to Iowa and starting to make a name in this great state of corn.

Why do you continue to berate me when I said nothing to attack you or the group you work for? Did I say anything about Studio on this topic to make you comment like that? No. Not at all. I did not think my post was uncalled for. I NEVER think my predictions are going to be correct, and I say so on all my posts. Sir, you are the epitome of class.

*edit* Please go look at my predictions from yesterday. I said right there that my predictions were gonna be wrong because this competition was impossible to predict. Please don't grade my predictions unless you are gonna grade everyone elses.

Sorry, Jay. I was just trying to make a joke. I guess it missed the mark.

Jay i think that the reason why Mr. Temple graded you was because you were the only who bragged about it. as for me I fail at predictions to cause well I only got urbandale right (imagine that for all the grief I give them)

First things first, congratulations on Wheaton-Warrenville on what I hear were two fantastic shows! I really need to see this group live sometime...

MAJOR congratulations are in order to Xhilaration, too! Looking back at predictions, very few people (Jay Burken being one of them ) gave you guys any sort of a shot at placing higher than 3RU. To finish not just one, but BOTH rounds in second place is a huge step for this group! This is the first time that Xhilaration has placed ahead of either Ankeny or Urbandale - both incredible groups with strong traditions of their own - and that is certainly an accomplishment to be proud of. To be the highest-placing Iowa group at a competition of this caliber is a great, great feat.

So, for all you Xhil people (and I know some of you are on here), BE PROUD!

Good job, Jay. You got two out of six spots right. That's 33 percent and a solid F on any grading scale.

It was super, super close, Frank. During the daytime Ankeny and Urbandale were separated by just one point.

Also next weekend we have several groups from out of state to worry about too...

I wouldn't know cause well a schedule hasn't been release(at least not one I have seen.) Yeah I saw it was ony one point from daytime which to me really a five point or less difference is kin of like the "margin of error" in a poll. I really am looking forward to seeing you guys next week(hopefully with ankeny 1, and urbandale 2 ) Anyway congrats to Xavier for placing well, and it is good to see ic high come back to the table of top-notch iowa show choirs.

What does it mean when it says day two?
Like obviously it's a two day competition, but how does that work?

We run the Middle school contest and sometimes smaller varsity classes on Friday night. Saturday is our large school class (4A) prep and varsity groupings.

They only announced four spots:

4th - Ankeny "Intensity"
3rd - Urbandale "Vitality"
2nd - Ankeny "Perpetual Motion"
1st - Xavier "Xuberance"

I only know that Iowa City "City Lights" got 5th place, and was .5 points away from having a Tie with Ankeny "Intensity"

Wow what a compeition, looks like it will be an interesting competition next week at Johnston escpecially between A-town and the red-headed step-suburb of Des Moiines known as urbandale. (I really am not an urbandale hater I just hate to lose to them, meh what are conference mates for?) and congrats to our women's prep group intesity AND PM way to step it up and represent the future is bright for Ankeny Show choir.
