The vocals of all the groups I though were very well done but Carmel was definetly amazing with vocals. And wow Patrick :p
Solon definetly improved with vocals I loved their show as well as twinsburgs, I love seeing improvements thoughout the season

I agree though. Carmel's vocal award was well deserved.

Oh I know! LC's Proud Mary soloist is absolutely amazing. She's got my vote for performer of the year.

Totally agree.

I LOVED watching this, even though the choreo wasn't as exciting as most Ohio choirs (which are usually the only ones I get to see), their vocals more than made up for it. For instance, Lawrence's Proud Mary solo nearly blew me out of my seat. I couldn't believe how awesome it was. I didn't get to see CG, but Carmel's vocals were near flawless, and it was great to watch. Just wanted to put a positive comment on here, they seem to have been pretty rare on this page.

I loved LC's show this year, I thought they'd place 2nd here actually, Was kind of surprised about CG stepping up their show.

I'm sure this was an excellent competition, and I'm sure the scores top to bottom were very close.

I know that this, at times, has gotten a little heated, but I really have enjoyed reading about different peoples opinions and view points about choreo. Thanks to everyone!

Didn't think you were complaining. Branden mentioned it just a few posts before you did and since it happened twice in a row I just thought I would share a couple of tips.

Good good, the smiley trick is a good one.

I've seen a couple of posts in this topic say that they've lost what they wrote because they took too long and were logged out. I'll just use the opportunity as a reminder to always, always select all (CTRL+A) and copy (CTRL+C) anything you put in a web forum, because this kind of thing happens all the time and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Another trick I've learned is that if you click the smiley box before you post, it will bring up the smileys if you are logged in and the login window if you are not. Use that to log in before you post and you'll always know for sure that you won't lose what you write.

I am working on ways to extend that timeout (it's the web session itself, not the forums), but until then make sure you safeguard yourself. I am well aware of the issue. Thanks!

Ah! Stop thinking I'm being picky! It was my fault, I had just copied my post before hitting submit (In case I lost it lol...) but before I hit submit, I found that quote, and copied it over my post... So I lost it.

We all appreciate everything you do on this site, and I don't think anyone is complaining. It does suck, but we all can take one extra step to prevent it, I'm just mad at myself that I screwed it up and copied over it... lol

I had a very long post but when I tried to post it I got logged out and lost it. So long story short: I do not hate Indiana show choirs. I think the hardest indiana choreo is Franklin Central and their show is very cool in my opinion and also Ben Davis with the stomp thing even though it is very random.

Now... Compare these closers and then try and say Carmel has some of the hardest choreography:

Well I just spent 20 minutes writing a post as a visual critique for Carmel's opener. A play by play stating exactly what I look for that is technically difficult.

but then, I lost it, as usual bc I took too long... Right after that my friend pulled up a ballet video, of a friend who was doing an instructional "foot position" demonstration for beginning ballet students, and She got a lot of negative comments about how she wasn't 100 percent perfect, and at this level, I couldn't even tell the difference.... Long story short, this was one of the last comments on the video, and I thought it to be very appropriate to the situation I found myself in at that moment.

" People must face the truth: for many years ballet was the domain of the upper class, which set is dying out, ballet must speak to a new audience: the average person. So please stop being stuck up. "

I have been stuck up. I apologize.

It is simply true, that when it comes to legitimate dance (Jazz, Tap, Ballroom etc) Carmel is the only choral program who can pull it off, (or still chooses to in some cases) and it is because it's so very difficult to teach at a high school level. Carmel can afford the instructors, so this style hasn't yet died at Carmel. (Some other choirs like Burroughs and Burbank choose a different style because it suits their students better than traditional, and can be found more "relevant".)

At the same time, Show choir has changed, even since I started observing in 2000, and that style is no longer looked at as cool, or difficult, but instead as tired, easy, unoriginal and worn out. THIS really ticks me off, but it's just because it makes me feel like a crochity old granny complaining about Kid's and their rock and roll.

Hi Scott,

I'm not singling you out; as I said, "for sure, you aren't the only culprit here" and "this goes for everyone." I haven't read anything about your weight on the forums, and if you feel you are being harassed you may contact me and I will look into it. I don't take that lightly, either. The issues I'm having, however, are with what's being said in the public arena, and I just feel that it is starting to elevate to a hostile level. As I have repeated many, many times, I do stand up for people's right to speak what is on their mind, but it's not a blanket "anything goes." Being critical is allowed as long as the discussion stays focused and intelligent. It's devolving into personal attacks and that's where I draw the line.

The reality is that most of the drama comes from the "adults" on this forum. I am asking everyone to take pause and set an example for those who may be new to SCC and want to participate but may hold back because they see the directions some of these discussions take. It is up to those with more experience to set that example.

You have written some pretty vile PMs too, Scott. I know, because now people are CCing them to me and forcing me to get involved with the situation. I would much rather be working on new features for the website (like trying to figure out why Internet Explorer still won't let you do half of the things it's supposed to while every other browser works fine), but now I'm spending that energy instead playing babysitter and referee.

I believe very strongly in freedom of speech, and like JWill, I think that directors who restrict it from their students is (beyond) not classy. But I also believe in decency of speech. This forum is a place where you should feel comfortable to express your opinions and expect civil discussion in return. It is not a place for obscenities or personal attacks. Lately, it feels like many of the threads you have been involved in have headed that direction. Lest we forget you've been banned twice already; you've assured me you've mellowed from your high school days but if that's not the case I can happily do it again. For sure you aren't the only culprit here and I realize that others like to egg you on, but you seem to be the common variable and I need to ensure that my forums are a peaceful, supportive environment for everyone to discuss show choir together.

Basically, it all comes down to tact. This goes for everyone. I will defend your right to express your opinion as long as it's not slanderous and you can present it in a way that is well-supported and stated as an opinion. I will not stand for hateful speech or shouting matches. There is a right way and a wrong way to discuss things; look at the "no more finals" topic as an example of individuals who are going about it the right way for the most part. Sometimes I hear things like "SCC is so rude, that's why I don't let my students post there." Well guess what; SCC is a website. It doesn't have feelings or emotion and it can't be "rude." YOU are what makes the content good or bad. This place can be anything you want it to be. I'm just here to help keep things in check (I still think the good far outweighs the bad and even the "heated" discussions are a million times better than the kinds of things that are said on sites like YouTube). I realize that with thousands of members, it's not always going to be peaches and cream. But how about we all try to work a little harder at being mature and thinking before we post, and I will continue to work hard to make improvements to make the experience better. I think everyone will enjoy it more that way.

The difference between now and high school, is that I have kept my personal arguments with certain individuals out of the forums, unless their beef with me directly effected the topic at hand. I tried smoothing things over with these individuals when I first came back to the site, and yea, i'm sure they did not CC you the beginning of any of the conversations.... Probably just the parts where I retaliated to being called a "Fat F***ing Troll"....

I'm tired of being painted as the true evil here when, as you just said, I am constantly being provoked by people on your staff, and being called "Troll" and having my weight brought into the conversation, Over SHOW CHOIR.

I would not try to draw you into a personal matter, How childish is it that I'm apparently the Ahole, yet these "adults" are CCing you my pm's that are retaliation to much worse things that they said to personally attack me, like you're our mother "Mommy, he's being mean, make him stop..."

It's really nice that all the people that have been nice enough to message me in agreement, are now silent when I'm actually being chastised for having to put up with harassment, and being expected not to react. Thank you for the fair weather support.
