I have a very odd question I'm hoping the Indiana schools can answer. I saw this hand flutter thing during awesome moments in the show and it's awesome I just have no clue what it is. (: I saw it at North Central when Piqua competed there and when I observed at Teays. I know this is very odd.

I HATE, HATE, HATE when the crowd loudly applauds a solo when the choir is still singing. Let them sing. Applaud the soloist when the song is completely done, or during the dance breaks.
Exactly, Don't most good directors teach their Parents/other choirs/fans during a home preview or something, when to applaud or not, to make a ton of noise during the dance breaks, and be quiet during times when they're singing?

Wasn't our fault, this competition was vocal based and clean based. Not at all how difficult the choreo was. A few Indiana judges and Findlay directors is the reason why. Big vocal people
You can't say that Carmel and CG's choreography isn't hard because it's different than yours.
I'm too lazy to read the arguments on this thread. So I'll just post my comments on the finalists.
Solon - The improvement and hard work you have put in this season is unbelievable. I love your theme. I couldn't hear your drummers during the dance break of the guys number, and your choreo could be cleaner but I saw you WORKING and showing you deserved that finals spot. I hope you prove strong next year, even though you'll be losing a significant amount of front row seniors.
Twinsburg - I cannot believe Born This Way was as clean as it was, considering you learned it... what... two weeks before Saturday. Your dynamics are fantastic, and the energy was great. I wish Born This Way was at the end, because you start out saying it sucks to be different, you're a creep, and then you say you don't care anymore. So a great finish would have been Born This Way instead of putting it near the beginning. Personal opinion.
Marysville - First time seeing you this season and I couldn't be happier to say your vocals are almost as great as your 2009 group, which I did not think I would hear considering you're fairly young. I expect you to dominate as you used to next year, no doubt. You're always classic, and I hope it never changes.
Lawrence Central - Oh my. Your soloists... were some of the most talented kids I've heard. I sat next to a mom of the closer soloist and watched her tear up as her daughter sang. I couldn't stop telling her how gifted her daughter is, along with so many individual performers in LC. The show didn't go together from song to song and the arrangements were unoriginal, but great job utilizing your individual talents.
Center Grove - Congrats on the tie. Your show was a bit flashy in my own opinion, considering there were tons of costumes and props and tapping. It was overwhelming for me, but it was great to see how many kids could ACTUALLY tap well. Some groups who do tap will let the front six or so break it down and the rest just shuffle and fake behind. Unfortunately, I can't comment much on your vocals because I was distracted by how much was going on in the show.
Carmel - Your vocals were gorgeous, especially during your ballad. I was hoping to see a classic Carmel show though, and was not given it. Your opener was BEAUTIFUL, classic lifts and costuming. I wish your whole show was like this, because the rest was provocative and unchanging, considering your closer was the same as the second number. Theme and choreo aside, your performers were still into the show and the vocals were classically and beautifully sustained throughout. Congrats.

"Moving around on stage" is not easy. The hardest part of most choirs' choreo is nailing picture changes, hitting your mark, and making sure the diagonals and guide lines are straight, and your spacing is even before you start your "choreo"... Well that's the whole thing, the stage movement, IS the choreography, and Carmel does a lot more of this than any choir i've ever seen. As you just said Jay.
That's the whole point i've been trying to make. It's not only the steps when they're actually standing in place dancing that makes their choreo, It's creating overall visual effect with stage movement, and it's pretty much adding marching band difficulty, to choreography. Hitting your stage marks is one of the most difficult things to do consistently, and the fact that these KIDS can perform the kind of circular peel offs and crap they do, without flattening the edges, or making one circle larger than the other, while still performing with perfectly pointed toes, attitude, facial expression, while moving up and down risers at that speed without their vocals bouncing, or being covered up by foot noise, really speaks to their training. (forgot to finish that thought... *edit)
So I agree with you that the show design was an hindrance not a help, and it's impossible to really tell how well they sing considering there weren't any choir mics...
I'm sure you're right and that the finals show was 10 times better than this, because seriously, when you're at the level that Carmel is at, not making finals, is just really not going to happen, not in Indiana... so they're subconsciously going to hold back regardless of what their directors might expect of them.
It was not a terrible show, and it was very well executed, I just think Carmel needs to get back in front of the curve as far as design is concerned, but I guess if they want to just be the best in Indiana, they're ok for now.

And I didn't like the show design either. I can definitely see how CG was ahead after day round. Carmel is known for picking it up in finals, so I bet finals was really really improved.
l forsure put up finals because we ALL stepped it up there (being down 4 points) and i know must of us felt it was the best we had ever done the show so hopefully it shows on the dvd when it comes out
I hope so, because even though I think the show design is lacking, and there's nothing that can be done about that, There are moments in this video where you can tell exactly how expert the execution is. Carmel's female sound is incredible, and I literally almost lost my mind at the 2:00 mark in be italian... Amazing.
Unfortunately, that only happened like 6 or 7 times in this video, and it's clearly because of the poor quality recording.
A better recording still isn't going to show that this set is on level with Burroughs, Clinton, or Burbank though. Carmel may execute as well, or better, but this show design is very dry minus "Be Italian", which had some issues of it's own (from a conceptual standpoint) and just doesn't compare to the innovation that we're seeing on the west coast.
Love you guys, but you're going to have to shake it up, or people are going to figure you out and start taking your trophies.
The choreo at 1:50 should have been changed, other than that, I don't see an issue with the number. I see incredibly well done choreography that makes these girls look like women, and if that's the issue, then I don't understand what the purpose of show choir is. Are they supposed to never grow up and perform as adults???
Just as someone else said, the booms were picking up EVERYTHING and the choir mics did nothing. Vocals are impossible to discern, and if I've EVER really agreed with Adam saying it's impossible to judge a choir off of youtube, it's now. On one hand, I hear brief moments of brilliance, where I still see and hear that national level choir, but because of the recording, a lot of it sounds like a total mess.
I'm not a fan of the show design, but I LOVE the choreography, and I don't think I've ever seen CG do anything that would compare visually, so I'm almost positive that that one moment in Be Italian, lost you that trophy. because the rest of it was stunning.
The vocals are clearly there, when the ensemble is at the rear of the stage and the booms aren't mucking everything up, the sound you produce is wonderful, but it's nearly impossible to tell from these videos,
Honestly If I were you, I'd take these down until you find a better video of your show. I'll personally come record it in HD if you're doing any more shows lol.
