Editing to remove the confusion. This was shock that North Central - a top Indiana show choir, prior winners at Nationals, and outstanding performance today didn’t make finals. They were very deserving - of course many were also. Just goes to show how strong the competition was today. I personally thought they were deserving of a spot. However I will say that Zionsville and Carmel were almost in a league of their own today and it will take a lot to top their performances. Good luck all.

This post does not represent Fairfield’s opinion of today’s outcome. All groups here were exceptional and it was anyone’s game. Great job North Central! It was an honor competing with you today.

I loved north centrals show, sad to see them not make finals. It was tough competition for sure!

I think everyone understood your point from the original post.

Must have been a heckuva comp - NC in sixth place has to be a first ever in that programs history. Nice of FC to put them in the first slot of the day, though. So rich.

Congrats to all!

They weren’t actually 6th place. Whiteland RM was 6th, being 6 points behind Ben Davis. North Central was 7th... and yes, very surprising considering their history as one of the most competitive choirs in Indiana & nationally

Hi! We love us some NC here at FC! Unless there is a special request because of conflicts, performance order is determined by when you register. NC just happened to register into the last slots we had. No malice here!

Having watched all the shows Saturday & every live stream of an Indy comp. I wasnt Surprised by their not making finals. They finished their competition show in January. The other groups have had more time to perfect the nuances of the show. Also...the caliber of the groups here... those that did make finals had (according to scores) better shows. This would be their second cool ikna row not making finals. I hate To be them. I’ve been in those shoes. Not a fun place.

Carmel “Accents”
Ben Davis “Sounds”
Fairfield “Pure Elegance”
Fairfield “FortissiBROS”
Zionsville “Choralaires”
Noblesville “New Dimensions”
North Central “Descants”
Naperville North “High Heeled Harmony”
IMO these are the single-gender groups that have a strong chance at making finals. The top two for me are Carmel “Accents” and Zionsville “Choralaires”. Carmel shouldn’t face much competition from Zionsville for the visual caption, and I think that Zionsville won’t face much competition from Carmel for the Vocal Caption. I think that Carmel does really well outside of Indy, like their defeat of By Request, Ambassadors, First Edition, and Pure Elegance last year at Olentangy. However, they don’t compete as much within Indy, where Zionsville dominates. Last time the two choirs faced off Zionsville took the GC home, so I think that the ISSMA Indy competition gives Zionsville an edge to Carmel. I think that Carmel’s momentum from last year gives them an edge to Zville.
That means to me:
GC- Carmel “Accents” (Best Visuals)
1RU- Zionsville “Choralaires” (Best Vocals)

The second runner up trophy will be another close competition, but I see the next most dominate group being both Fairfield choirs. PE’s edge is that they typically win to the Bros, but the Bros won the competition prior, so it will be close. IMO One of these choirs will get the 3rd trophy, but the other probably won’t make it. I see PE having a shot at the Best Visuals caption because the are such a clean group, and the Bros having a shot at Best Vocals because their sound will be completely different from all other choirs competing in that division. As my final decision to which group will make it:
2RU- Fairfield “Pure Elegance”- this is because the compare feature shows PE with 5 and FortissiBROS with only 2.

The final spot in finals goes between Noblesville and North Central “Descants”. Noblesville has so far had a great season, winning their first competition and beating High Voltage at their second. I think that there great showing at these two competitions should give the performers confidence that they could make finals here. North Central hasn’t competed yet, and since they are a choir that improves their show so much throughout the season, they won’t have the same competitiveness that they always do at the end of their season. That said, they are consistently one of the top choirs in Indy, so them not making finals would really be a shock to the community. This bring me to the conclusion that
3RU- Noblesville “New Dimensions” (Best Band, I think that have this award in the bag if they make finals)

Ben Davis “Sounds” and Naperville North “High Heeled Harmony” both have a really good shot at making finals, they sing really well. Since this is an ISSMA competition, the vocal score is much more important. NN HHH is consistently one of my personal favorite groups so I hope they make it.

Final Predictions
GC- Carmel “Accents” (Best Visuals)
1RU- Zionsville “Choralaires” (Best Vocals)
2RU- Fairfield “Pure Elegance”
3RU- Noblesville “New Dimensions” (Best Band)

Zionsville doesn’t dominate Indy. They attend comps where they have little competition. They’ve been bested by FC, NC & even LC at times Over the years. Also... Carmel has a better (subjective) show. They nest vocally I’ve heard them since they returned in 2007 & ran off with the state championship.

Over the past 3 years they’ve beat center grove, Carmel, north central, beavercreek, Carroll, ankenny, Loveland, and have narrowly lost to FC quite a few times. If you call that no competition... idk what to say. Zionsville has a very VERY strong program in the last few years and very strong vocals. It’s not fair in my opinion to write them off like that

Their Single-Gender group, "Choralaires" has beat FC's Single-Gender woman's group, which is tough competition. Their mixed group, "Royalaires" just beat Carmel's mixed group "Ambassadors" which was also very tough competition. Zionsville doesn't "dominate" indy, however, but they do have something unique about their shows, and it is a very talented group of people.

After attending this event I would like to say that Indiana is apparently the fountainhead of all show choir SOPRANOS. My gosh some of you all have INCREDIBLE sopranos.
