Since I wasn't present in Nashville at the awards I completely understand your hesitancy and I was also trying to be "Minnesota nice" I should have said, I know for a fact that Tucker Moore won Best Male Soloist from prelims.

( and next time I will pm you if I see an oops).

You are very Minnesota nice, and I appreciate your help. I guess the proper question is not did Tucker win an award, but did he win the only award? As Adam pointed out, they used to give out two best male soloist awards: one from prelims and one from finals. Do you know if that is the case in this situation?

This is why I was hoping SC.com, or perhaps a representative from Attache', would help us by publishing the full list of awards and in their proper context (i.e., Prelims or Finals).

You've pointed out the very problem we have ourselves - if it's confusing for someone who's actually at the competition, I guarantee it's confusing for us just trying to input what we get from a text or email!

Add to the fact that there are no representatives from Attaché on this website except for Dave Fehr (they're all banned from participating), and it makes the second half of your statement difficult as well.

I will talk to the director tomorrow to get full details. They are still on the bus on their way home!

It really was a great weekend at the Opry. Great Stage, great sound and Attache' were great hosts.

As far as the awards go, I thought "Best Male Soloist" (and "Best Female Soloist") was one of those awards that was announced after Prelims AND after Finals. If memory servers me correctly, they went to the same people--Male Solosit from BG and Female Soloist from Opelika--in Prelims and Finals.

This only added to my confusion--were they reannouncing the winners from Prelims for the benefit of the Finals audience or were they actually announcing the result of two distinct evaluations? I also thought the Best Male Performer announcement in Finals went to BG.

This is why I was hoping SC.com, or perhaps a representative from Attache', would help us by publishing the full list of awards and in their proper context (i.e., Prelims or Finals).

Nashville used to award two Best Male Soloist awards... one from prelims and one from finals. They may still do this?

It's highly possible. Sometimes it's very hard to hear individual names with all of the cheering going on, so at the very least we want to give credit to the school who won the award. That's my guess as what happened in this situation.

If anyone knows who the recipient of the award was, please let us know and we can get it added!

Hi Carla,

I didn't enter the information for this event, but I'm sure whoever did put in the best information they had. The problem is we get a lot of people who "believe the award went to ____," but unless they know without question, we don't enter it. This is to ensure accuracy for everyone who visits. As a Totino-Grace parent, do you think you could double check with your director and get us an accurate list of exactly what all of the awards for each of the divisions were? That would be extremely helpful, and we would be beyond happy to post it for you.

Thanks!

I think some of the confusion may be that both Buffalo Grove and Totino list Best Male Soloist awards. I believe it was awarded to Totino's Tucker Moore, but it appears as though two awards were given in the summary section.

Unfortunately, we don't have the budget to fly a crew member out to every competition to write down the awards and upload them personally. It would be great if we could, and donations to keep this (completely free) website running are always accepted!

Many times, we are at the mercy of whatever information is posted on the forums to update the results. We are working on a more efficient submission system, but accuracy is the top priority and everything needs to be doublechecked. There are dozens of competitions happening across the country, and we rely largely on user input to provide updates for you and the thousands of other people who visit the site each day. You would think that it would be pretty easy to get at least one person from each event (hopefully someone from the host group/school themselves) to send us that information, but you'd be surprised at how difficult it has proven to be. Everyone just seems to think we "magically" get the information because we're showchoir.com, but that isn't the case (it's flattering, but not the case!).

With the sheer volume of competitions to deal with, coupled with the fact that they all run differently, it is challenging not only to get accurate information for each one, but present it in a consistent manner nationwide. We developed the tier system to handle this, which has worked out very well. But even with that in place there can be slight discrepancies that make handling data difficult. Couple that with the fact that even at the events themselves placements aren't always announced correctly (we've had at least five errors at the actual events that I know of this season), and you can understand why it's not an easy task.

I do pride SCC on being a reliable resource; I consistently impress upon the crew that nothing is ever to be entered into the database unless we know it is 100% correct, and we do our best to keep it updated in a timely manner. That being said, there are less than 10 people working on this who do it all in their free time - without pay - because they love show choir and our community very much. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate their support to keep this thing running.

The best thing you can do to help is to submit missing information to them so that we can keep the site updated for everyone else. While you're at it, you can associate yourself with your respective show choir and get someone on staff to correct your name - that is, unless it really is "Fred Astaire" - because one of our policies here is no anonymous accounts. Not only will this give your posts more legitimacy, but when we know what choir you're from, we can ask you for information that's missing and get it up on the site more easily.

Sorry for the sour tone to this post, but it's difficult to take criticism from someone who isn't respecting the rules. And again, there is a suggestion forum that you may use if you have an idea that can help make SCC a better place. According to your profile, you've been here for over three years, but you haven't used it once.

I like the format of the Summary Page--it provides a very informative snapshot of the Results and it has certainly withstood the test of time. I look at competition results from all over the country and I appreciate the depth and timeliness of the information on those pages. I was wondering about the content of the page for this Comp--not the format. For example, there is no name associated with the Best Male Vocalist in the Finals section, no mention was made of the Best Male Performer in the Finals, and even though the summary page format provides sections for Prelims and Finals, all the awards are listed under the Finals section.

Like some of the other posts here, I was confused by the Award announcements at the Competition. Some awards were announced only after Prelims, some were announced only after Finals and some were announced after both Prelims and Finals. Can SC.com confirm what awards were announced, when they were announced and then report that info here in its appropriate section on the Summary Page?

Just a follow-up, it looks like all of the caption award winner's names are listed, you can clearly see the distinction between "Finals," "Mixed Division (Prelims)," and "Women's Division," and this is the same format we use across all events for consistency.

The summary page for this event is very misleading. Some effort should be made by the moderator/editor of this forum to list the awards in their entirety, to list them consistently (with names, without names, etc.), and in their proper context (finals, prelims, individual choir award, overall competition award, etc.). In its current form, the summary page creates confusion and misinforms the numerous visitors to the foum who come here looking for the most accurate and timely information regarding the National show choir scene.

Hello Fred,

You may use this forum for suggestions to help make the website better:

Show Choir Nationals was a WONDERFUL competition and continues to be one of the best run competitions in the nation, if not the best. Everything went very smoothly throughout all 3 days, not once did the competition get off schedule. This competition is truly an amazing experience for the performers, directors, and spectators. These kids get to perform in one of the best venues in the United States. You could see how much the kids enjoyed performing on the Grand Ole Opry stage and experiencing a venue of with an exceptional sound system that can not be matched by many competitions. Not to mention that the groups get to stay in the Opryland Hotel and join the other groups at the Wild Horse Saloon. It is definitely a competition that directors should consider when figuring out their schedules for the year because it provides amazing amenities with a very fun and friendly atmosphere. The "Attache" kids, the "Attache" parents, both Dave and Mary Fehr, and the Usserys do a wonderful job hosting this event. I know it is said everywhere, but they are some of the nicest people in the show choir world, not to mention some of the best.

That is not quite the case. In 2009 Franklin Central won GC at Fame Orlando with no captions, over Mt Zion. Little bit of controversy there. But I have been under the assumption that Best Vocals, Best Choreography normally brings home the big Trophy.
Congrats to Buffalo Grove, Totino Grace and the rest of the competing show choirs. I am sure it was an extremely tense and obviously VERY close Competition.

I totally agree, and that's like if you look at FAME NY captions were all over the place, but Eisenhower still came out as GC...Obviously it was close and i'd like to say a Congrats to every group there, they all went out and brought it, leading to a hard competition that no one should be ashamed of!

Well I wasn't expecting that at all! I thought Totino would walk out with nearly every caption. I mean, I like buffalo grove, but I really think of TG as a major power-house. Always in the top 10.

Congrats BG on a big victory!
