I don't think we should let anything distract us from the amazing performances that must be going on at The Choral Classic tonight. If anyone here is actually present at the competition, we'd love to hear your thoughts on all of these amazing groups.

And, if anyone knows prelims scores, spill the beans! haha.

I have prelims ranks for the six finalists.
1: Wheaton
2: glenwood
3: urbandale
4: Solon
5: twinsburg
6: Naperville
Wheaton is first in ranks, glenwood is in first in raw scores. Should be a nail-biter!

I think the feed won't be back on until the first group performs at 8pm central time.

This is the worst live feed ever. It’s painful to watch and listen to. Not sure what the issue is, but it needs to be fixed.

Is there any chance the livestream can be fixed for the finals? It has been awful.

Here are my predictions after watching prelims live.

GC: Wheaton North (BV, BC)
1RU: Urbandale
2RU: Glenwood
3RU: Twinsburg
4RU: Solon
5RU: Naperville North

Unfortunately I can’t stay for finals but I’m so excited to see how this pans out. I could see the tip 3 going anyway and captions are a toss up. Best of luck to all groups tonight!

Yes. The audio is very choppy and the video cuts out periodically.

Worst I have seen all year. Not very clear and the audio is horrible. Better than nothing, but not by much.

I know that people normally don't discuss the results of Middle School, but it is interesting/weird to me that Arlington Heights won the middle school division when two other groups got the awards for choreography and vocals

And I didn't watch Arlington Heights, so I'm just saying that it's odd, not that they don't deserve it

This has happened before - see Opelika Southern Showcase 2013. Auburn won best Vocals, Enterprise won best Choreography, but Homewood won the contest. The reason for it was that Homewood was second in was second in both visuals and vocals, and then won best overall effect. It’s part of every score sheet, but not always awarded.

There are also some cases where raw scores are used for captions, but then rankings are used for overall placement. There are so many ways to get a variety of combinations. It happened this year at Bloomington Kennedy as well - Totino won, but Waconia (2nd) got BC and Jefferson (3rd) got BV. It also shows the level of talent and how close a competition can be!

I understand that the overall rankings can be different but in my opinion if a group didn't have the best vocals or choreography, then why should they win? And if it's because of overall effect then they should award that so that it is clearer. Either way though congrats to the winner

It’s also possible for one judge to skew the raw total so badly that one group wins every caption and another wins the contest. In this case, the contest would use consensus ranking for placements and point totals for captions.
