WOW I just want to preface this by saying this comp will be absolutely INSANE!
1RU: Classics/Sound System
2RU: Classics/Sound System
3RU: Sound Check
4RU: West In The Groove
5RU: Swingsations/Friend De Coup
This will seriously be the most insane comp of the year - I'm so ready to watch this one! I would hate to be judging it - all of these groups have the potential to win!
Grand Champion: Clinton “Attachè” (BC) (BB)
1st Runner Up: Wheaton Warrenville South “The Classics” (BV)
2nd Runner Up: Center Grove “Sound System”
3rd Runner Up: Millard West “West In The Grove”
4th Runner Up: Mitchell “Friend De Coup”
5th Runner Up: Waubonsie Valley “Sound Check” OR Mount Zion “Swingsations”
I’ll wonder how this holds up. Good luck everyone!
This is the contest of the year. Let me break some things down...
Last year, among the groups we know so far, there were a combined 17 grand championships, 13 best vocals, and 18 best choreography trophies awarded. These groups boasted wins against Franklin Central, Glenwood, Carmel, Waukee, Omaha Westside, Broken Arrow, Shepherd Hill, among other powerhouse groups.
There are a couple notable streaks going into this, with Clinton having yet to lose a contest since 2013, and Millard West never leaving a contest without the best choreography trophy since 2016 (Update: Millard West lost choreo to Ankeny Centennial in 2017, but since then has been on a roll).
Keep in mind this event will feature an exhibition performance from Glenwood "Titan Fever", who has been a dominant force since their win at Show Choir Nationals in 2015.
This contest will be extremely unpredictable. However, predictions are fun, especially when you know absolutely nothing about any of the groups yet... so let's see how this will hold up.
GC: Clinton "Attache" (BV, BC, BB)
1RU: Center Grove "Sound System"
2RU: Wheaton Warrenville South "The Classics"
3RU: Millard West "West in the Groove"
4RU: Mitchell "Friend De Coup"
5RU: Mt. Zion "Swingsations"
Very true, however, every year is a new year. Good examples are Waubonsie Valley, Linn-Mar, and Bemidji. Don't get me wrong--Linn-mar and Bemidji were stunning in the past, but not nearly as good as last year. And Waubonsie Valley is far from bad. They are always one of my favorite groups. They just didn't showcase their talent as well as they have in previous years. Anyway, my point is that we don't know how good Millard West's choreo will be next year, nor do we know how well it will be against Clinton's. Granted, when doing early predictions it is always best to go off the previous year.
