Here's what I think is trying to be conveyed here. I don't think it's about recruiting, it's about opportunity. Example: I have a child who is musically talented and I want them to participate in a strong show choir program. My "public school" doesn't offer show choir. I have the option to send my child to the private school with the "strong program." I also have the option to send them to another public school with a "strong program" but I would have to move to do so.
That's not the point, being a private school like another said you don't have 50% or more of the slacker population....It doesn't matter though, Luers your having a good year and I applaud you...but don't start thinking your hot stuff because I think we are all looking forward to next year
Let's be honest do people really recruit for show choir? There are private schools in Ohio too, really big ones and none have competing show choirs... well Lehman Catholic does but you get the point. Also, how many private schools have big named show choirs? Relatively few.
i know for a fact luers does not recruit for show choir! believe me i am in the choir.

From what I can gather, since private schools can "recruit" talent in whatever fields the school is interested in, supposedly those scholarships would be offered to the most talented students. Therefore, a smaller private school can have an entire choir program that is as talented if not more talented than the best in a public school.
Someone with more insight is welcome to correct me, but this is the answer this question usually receives every year.
im confused here.. you can see i am a lot. but if your workingg with picking people from 2000 people versus 500 people, wouldnt be the smaller school taking anyone that breathes?

Yeah recruiting doesn't happen lol that's a lot of bull....but yes that is true with a private school it is a lot easier to get GOOD choir students in your program as opposed to public schools who will take anyone that's breathing...

Just so you know all schools (public and private) in Fort Wayne, South Bend and Indianapolis can recruit, because there is open enrollment within those school districts. I'm not sure if there any other areas in Indiana that have this, but I know of these three for sure.
Show choir in Iowa is excellent this year, 'par' has been raised an incredible amount! I see Luers is having a fantastic year. I might get a chance to see you guys if i can convince my friend to take me to Orlando when we are in Florida that weekend. Which would be awesome. How is show choir in Indiana.
we've actually only competed in one winter indiana competition so im not sure BUT this year has definitely been one full of surprises throughout our little section of the midwest! im excited to see how Orlando turns out

definitely agree with you. about the first part but it depends on if you count the seniors in the 50% cuz can you say HELLO SENIORITUS!! hahah

I totally agree... the talent pool and resources that these smaller schools have to draw from is much smaller. Many people forget that Sullivan or Manteno are pretty small schools compared to the Huge 3,000-4,000 student "big choir schools".
Not to say that the big schools don't have to work very hard to be great, just that the small schools have to "work with less" if you want to put it that way
I agree completely. . we only have 500 kids at Luers and we go up against 2000-3000 student schools everywhere we go
