Hearing JB Sound Sensations were second due to time penalties. Can anyone confirm?

That is correct.

Does anybody know if JB Sound Sensations would have beaten Los Al Soundtrax if there had not been a time penalty?

Both choirs were actually tied based on the scoring system used (weighted scores). Sound Sensations would have won because they had the higher music score (which is what was used to break the tie), but the penalty dropped them to second overall. Just like the two schools' mixed groups, the women's choirs are also extremely competitive!

I saw Los Al and Burroughs' sets on YouTube. Great performances from both. Los Als' set (I think) is based on another story or movie, anyone know which one? It seems familiar but I don't know what.

The set is not based on another movie, etc.

Ah. I think it was the simulation story and the puppet scene that was reminding me of something else. (Or a couple different things.)

A couple things...

Since we’re on the topic of time penalties, you can add these:
Hart Hartbreakers (dropped from 2nd to 3rd)
Bonita Vista Sound Unlimited (drooped from 4th to 7th)

And for the Novice Mixed division, it shows Gladstone “Sonic Boom” won the showmanship award.

Thanks for everything, as usual!

Why does everyone have Powerhouse at 1st runner up? If anything, based on what I’ve seen so far, they are definitely going to take first. Though, I’d understand why people might think they’d get first runner up initially, after last year, but their set this year is really good. Their ballad is absolutely heart breaking, their A Capella is riveting, and their opener is amazing. Everything they’ve done in their set is beautiful and inspiring. I have them at first, Los Al at second and Waconia at third.

Not everyone has Powerhouse as 1RU. Elizabeth and Jonathan predicted a Powerhouse GC. At any rate, it'd be cool if you had an authentic account and updated your profile. We like fostering a community here, not anonymity.

Well I certainly didn't expect up-votes in that sense. I may have been blunt in that comment, but it remains true. To elaborate, one of the great things about SCC is that we are not those random anonymous Twitter accounts that sometimes spew drama and division within the show choir world. I recall earlier in the season there being a negative tweet from one of those accounts that was invalidating "story" shows. On SCC, users still dictate the type of content and discussions taking place. This year in particular, folks have been really into discussing predictions, rankings, and livestreams. However, there are also a number of threads that have deeper levels of discussions or analyses of shows. As a whole, we encourage any and all respectful discussions of show choir and general topics- I'm sure in the archives, for example, there are already several topics where story shows vs traditional were discussed with all sorts of viewpoints.

For any of this discussion to be optimally impactful, folks need to show up authentically. We know some folks have fake names on their profile or don't list their true choir association. This isn't preferred or encouraged, because we know you won't get the most out of your SCC experience if you stay hidden. We want you to show up as your best self in this community and have a blast! While SCC has evolved over the years, this remains a place where folks can meet new people and build friendships. Many folks who were active on SCC in the 2000s know exactly what I'm talking about. Personally for myself, I've met folks through SCC who I now see and hang with annually on the Ohio show choir circuit. You're going to get out of the community what you put into it and that's the more detailed mindset behind my original post.

Haha this is why it’s important not to criticize the other predictions. It’s fun to make your prediction and explain why but you made some pretty bold statements for this being both groups’ first competition.

So incredibly proud of Los Alamitos right now! You guys killed it out there. Every choir that performed tonight did spectacular. Looking forward to seeing what this choir season has in store for you. If anyone has a video posted, let me know

They haven't been announced. The competition is still happening. I believe Los Al is on stage now though. Awards are after Sound FX.

It's more or less the west coast equivalent, just different terms like everything else in show choir across the country. The one difference between music/show and vocals/choreo as it exists in some places is that the "musicianship" award is the total sum of ALL music scores and the "showmanship" award is the total sum of ALL "show" scores, which includes choreography, staging, "overall effect" or whatever else is on the sheet. In other words it's not just the choreography. It's essentially a vocals/visuals type of thing, if that makes sense.
