Cause Petal, Enterprise, South Jones, Homewood, Albertville and Opelika haven't beaten groups on that list before?...
Rock it out South!
And no Scott, I don't believe all these "elite" groups so you say will pay the rediculous costs that certain FAME comps have become. Not everyone's familys can pay the thousands of dollars to be in show choir like Burroughs kids have to.
For $50 you can get 2 student tickets to see a show on Broadway. I love Show Choir, i do, and I just walked into FAME NYC in the past paying nothing, but I heard what people went thru this year...
But a state/regional/national playoff situation doesn't exist right now, Shawn. The Show Choir Cup at next year's FAME Chicago does. I'd just like to get the highest number of realistic contenders to one specific contest next year.
tscott, every show choir in this nation should have the opportunity to be on that list! The opportuity to compete for the title National Champion should be open to all and not a self appointed few. It should be an honor earned in their own state or region and each state or region should be able to send their champion to represent them on the National Championship stage. Only then would the victor be worthy to wear the crown "National Champion".
Count us out of a national competition next year, unless the price to do JUST the competition in Chicago decreases dramatically- we only do nationals every other year, FAME New York 2006 being the only exception to that.
You are all invited to join the Totino-Grace choirs on our cruise though !
I think it's nice that FAME put the Cup for next year in Chicago- a central location in the country, and FAR more affordable than New York for many. We would have loved to have gone to FAME New York this year, but the cost would have been roughly double what our trip to Branson will be. Our administration would never approve a trip for that much, especially in the current economic climate.
I think we should put together a SCC committee- people from all states. Then build a nationals forum this way- 1st tier state championship, the top 3 choirs move to the 2nd tier- regionals, the top three from there go to the 3rd tier Nationals! States- February, Regionals- March, Nationals- April.
Although Chicago '08 wasn't the "Cup," it was the most heated and publicized competition last year... my guess is that most of the groups who attended probably don't want to make the same trip again so soon. I'm all for a "super competition," but I'm with those who think Orlando or even a non-traditional spot entirely would be a better choice. You aren't going to get 30 amazing groups to go if the event location is something they just spent all kinds of money and resources to attend.
North Central only takes a big trip to a national competition every 3 years, Chicago 08 being the exception to that.(We were invited last minute, it was close, etc.) This is because, due to a very limited budget, the band, orchestra, and choir programs have to rotate which group to take a trip every year. Next year will be band's turn again.
Then additional groups could join wanting to compete against the best.
To be the best you must compete against the best.
just a thought.......
This is an amazing idea, getting everyone to go to one competition! Everyone's shows would be so amazing, knowing that the competition is so stiff!
It's exciting at first, until you try to slide into the shoes of every choir that would be there.
If every single one of them has your ideals of needing to prove that they're the best by competing against "the best", think of how down on themselves they'll be if/when they aren't one of the top 6 groups.
It would be a truly amazing weekend, well worth $50, but that is my view as I would have to be a spectator next year.
But if this much excellence goes into a competition, confidences drop immensely when they don't succeed as they're used to.
That is exactly what happened in Indiana for state finals and that's why there were so many silly tears from dropped hopes. Everyone was SO good, but someone always has to be last, but it's hard for a lot of people to understand that.
It's not the kind of stress that the average 15-18-year-old choir kids can handle, and few show choir kids are above average. That's what makes all show choir kids so amazing because they still deal with it.
And i also agree with the bigger venue- for this chicago or new york would work but with enough participation and the same venue just over two days- Orlando would work!
But Chicago works out as a more central location....so lets go with that!
So the dates have already been set by FAME
CHICAGO- March 27th, 2009
WHO WANTS TO BE THE FIRST TO CONFIRM!!!?
Only 362 days until the BIGGEST,BADDEST SHOW CHOIR SHOWDOWN EVER!
