Do you happen to know if the Vid of ISSMA is all 12 contestants or is it just the top 6? for me it wouldn't be worth buying if FC Lawrence Central and Plainfield weren't on it... FC and Plainfield both had great Years and LC is a constant contender in indy, Definately would like to have all the shows...

This was one of the best competitions that I have ever been to, honestly. Everyone stepped up to the plate and brought their A game. Seriously. I know that some people felt a little "off" with their performances, but every group that I saw was truly spectacular and had improved immensely since I had last seen them. The overall energy in the auditorium was not one of envy or hatred it was really just about enjoying every choir for what they had to bring to the table. Let me tell ya, they brought it.

TRULY the best competition that I have been to and that includes many a Fame competition.
Keep up the good work Indiana!

North Central-

You guys were all absolutely incredible and I know that our entire group had an amazing time watching your performance and competition WITH you. The keyword is with; I'm afraid that some people merely saw you as enemies because... well, let's face it, you guys carry a pretty incredible show. But once people get past the fact that we're all in the same boat, just singing and dancing our hearts out to show the audience what we have and keep the spirits up, then there really is no need for hard feelings between the group.

I'm especially saying this to some of the people in my own group... I don't know who the previous poster is, but it was unnecessary for personal attacks. True, people are entitled to their own opinions, but it was all in the past. There's not much of a need to RANK how everyone did either, because music and performing was not created so that it could be judged. It's about spreading a message and entertaining the audience. All I know is that everyone brought it to state and truly and sincerely "Wowed!" all.

Again, I'm sorry for the person that posted that prior comment. As hosts, Leela, Max, and the rest of CP were incredible, cheering us on before warm-ups, as we walked on the stage, and afterwards. Your hospitality was truly appreciated and we should all know that technical difficulties occur everywhere. It's not any one person's fault for some of the problems happening at MIC - most of them were our very own. So the attacks of "sabotage" were very unnecessary.

Finally, I just wanted to say that you guys were truly amazing this year and I can't wait to hear how you guys compete in Chicago. During your performance, I was right up in the front cheering because that's what it's about... not looking to BEAT another choir... but to just enjoy it and be entertained. And trust me, you certainly entertained the ENTIRE audience. In the end, I guess the title isn't everything.. it's how your group feels about the performance. And you guys should truly be proud of the amazing talent, power, (intimidation hehe), and brilliance. Again, props to North Central.

and that ladies and gentlemen was the best post of this forum. I honestly sat in amazement for the majority of the day. Everyone truly did sing and dance their hearts out. Congrats to everyone!!

Okay so ..after talking to a couple of your Ambassadors, we have come to the conclusion that it was not conspiracy or anything like it at MIC. The monitors were screwed up and they were screwed up for more groups than just Carmel so please don't try to bring NC into that.

For you to call out CP on our "candels" and rap was completely uncalled for. None of us are on here talking about your set.

The judges didn't like our style. It's okay, we'll just have to accept that. Everyone has a biased opinion and there is nothing that we could have done to change that.

Congratulations Carmel on you Grand Champion in both divisions.

and again, its important to note that Carmel and North Central are all AMAZING choirs. Honestly, there are truly no losers in the STATE FINALS (especially the top 6). We have to think about how groups feel who didnt make top 6 (or even State finals for that matter)

Can we please not use this forum for an arguement forum (why not a private message? )and just simply state our opinions without being rude and putting down other groups because all of the groups worked hard probably for at least 3 months and who knows how many hours to perfect their show. Also, we have to remember that it was the OPINION of the judges (which could explain the 5th place at MIC). Im sure if ISSMA hired 4 other judges with a different background, the results would have been different. or is ISSMA hired just one more vocal judge and visual judge who knows what would have happened.

(feel free to message me to talk about any of my posts*)

I'm just going to give my input of some shows that i saw (some are going to be negative and some positive)

Carmel Accents- WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the ballad was great. The arrangement was simply gorgeous. You deserved your Grand Championship

NC Descants- i dont think the first half of your show was as strong as it has been in years passed. Definetly at least a top 3 performance. The 2nd half was great. THATS the Decants i remember.

BD Sounds- in my opinion, you guys EASILY deserved at least 3rd place. Your opener wasnt as strong as Carmel or not as catchy as Descants' but your ballad was great. Also, the last half of your show had me wanting to get up and dance. The only women's show that made me want to do that.

Now, to the mixed results

Carmel- i dont think people realize how mature and well-blended you guys are. Your tap was very difficult and clean. Very catchy opener. However, i dont kow if a GC was the right award for you guys.

NC- great. The only thing that killed you was that your opener was so amazing that so much was expected for the rest of the show. And honestly, the rest of the show was lacking in some areas. Those areas are not vocals.

HN- AMAZING!!!! the best vocals of the day. I like how you guys stick to old fashion "show choir". With all the creativity and things, you guys still manage to entertain with the style your used to. clean choreography as well.

WC- great variety. I was so happy to see you in the top 6. Your soloists were great.

BD- like many have said, by far the most entertaining show. The ballad soloists WERE GREAT!!! i got chills so many times in that one show. truly great singing. Im glad to see you guys place in top 6 after being cheated throughout the yr.

DeKalb- all around nice show

LC- wasnt the best show you guys had. Your closer was much better than i saw before, but the ballad had some issues.

FC- just a SHOCK!!! One of the few shows that picked uo energy throughout the show.

This is how i would have placed choirs.

Women:
Vocals- Carmel, BD, NC, LC, Brownsburg, Dekalb.
Visuals- Carmel, NC, DeKalb, BD, LC, Brownsburg

Overall:
GC: Carmel Accents (very clean choreography and amazing vocals)
1st RU: North Central Descants (strong 2nd half of show)
2nd RU: Ben Davis Sounds (vocals were great, but choreo was kinda sloppy)
3rd RC: LC Sweets (al-around pretty good)
4th: DeKalb (great improvement)
5th RU: Brownsburg (strong women sound)

Mixed:
Vocals- HN, NC, Carmel, BD, Warren, FC
Visuals- Carmel, FC, HN, DeKalb, NC, BD

GC: Huntington North Varsity Singers (absolutely amazing vocals and VERY clean choreo)
1st RU: North Central Counterpoints (still not the place you want )
2nd RU: Carmel Ambassadors (you guys were great all around)
3rd RU: Ben Davis Premiers (most entertaining show and great vocals. Choreo lacked)
4th RU: Franklin Central FC Singers (vocally you guys lacked in the first half of your show.)
5th RU: DeKalb Classic Connection (good all around)

The top 6 and 7 choirs in mixed were GREAT!!!!

I agree that it does seem really fishy when Carmel wins almost every award for State when they obviously didn't have their show together at MIC. I am in no way saying that it is rigged, but for one to win is great, two to win...kinda awkward.

Dont judge Carmel based off what you saw at MIC...and dont even mention rigged, cause lets face it..thats basically in a roundabout way what you were saying, that state was rigged. Rigged though would be MIC...for both Accents and Ambassadors the monitors for their brass just all of a sudden "stopped working" but then ironicaly worked for every other group. hmmm.
Then at Huntington ( the best hosts ever who unlike NC cares about the people performing and wernt jerks) everything worked fine and Carmel had an amzing show that won them GC...that show got cleaned and was even more amazing at State. Both Accents and Ambassadors are amazing hard working groups and both winning state proves that. Carmel prouds themselves on song selection and being a basic show choir that is amazing. no special effects, no confetti, no tents, no back drops with lights, no candels, no rap. a clean basic show choir that puts the choir part first then adds the show. Congrats to Carmel for both their Female and Mixed groups. Well deserved Championship that wasnt "akward"(aka rigged)

OK. so i just found the Carmel 2008 videos... And i can't say that i have EVER seen a North Central, HN, Ben Davis, or Really any other show that would Technically beat Carmel's performance the other night... The men's sound in the ballad is absolutely gorgeous, The stage movement is REALLY interesting and different, The band is perfect... the Vocals are absolutely incredible... and thats just looking at the video... I can't imagine what i would have thought seeing it on stage!!!!

Carmel - Don't let anyone take your win away from you... Granted i haven't seen NC's show or anything this year, But i highly doubt they got screwed. Your show is probably the most impressive display of musicianship i've seen this year. Congratulations on coming back after MIC and proving that you are THE choir to beat in the state of indiana!!!

That being said, as much as i loved watching carmel's videos, i'm still aching to see North Central this year. North Central is always Close to perfect (carmel may be a little closer i guess)... The difference, Is that Counterpoints know how to get a crowd into it and keep them excited.

I think again, this all comes down to the sheet... Just because an audience likes to see certain things on stage doesn't mean the scoresheet reflects that... Carmel is ALL about what Judges want to see...

I don't know who wrote the note below, but all of the Ambassadors loved Max and Leela and as per my earlier note, I acknowledged how wonderful our hosts at both schools were. We loved them all. I think this person below felt defensive about all of the critical remarks about Carmel that are made on this site. We were treated rudely by some adults there, but not by any students. I, for one, am sorry that this person didn't just take it in stride.

Competition doesn't build character, it reveals it. So be careful what is put in writing, all of you who choose to share your opinions.

I would personally love to see more suggestions for inspiring numbers you've seen performed by other show choirs across the country that we can all see on you tube for new and refreshing ideas.

Keep it positive!

I think Max and Leela did a beautiful job hosting Carmel at MIC. Please don't blame technical difficulties on the school, or assume that it was 'rigged' because of one fluke; does it really matter any more? Carmel won state and has proved themselves to anyone who had doubts, despite a rough showing at North Central. I didn't get to see them perform, but the overall opinion was that they did a wonderful job and had improved a great deal. They've earned their state title, and nothing anyone says on here in disagreement should matter.

Degrading other groups about the use of props, however, is highly uncalled for, and also irrelevant.
