What happened with Franklin Central?

And I can see this thread turning out like last year's ISSMA thread did: "Carmel shouldn't have won, North Central should have."

I swear to GOD that I am not being biased.
North Central Should have won.
Carmel was FIFTY times better than at MIC when they got 5th, but not the best in the state.
NC was so innovative, and seriously there was NOT A DULL MOMENT in the whole show besides their closer, and although that is on of the most important parts of a show, the rest of the show trumped it.
Their opener sound EXACTLY the same as the 100 some professionals singing the "300" movie's Oh Fortuna.
Carmel's tapping was fantastic and ofcourse their costumes were GORGEOUS!
I would really be interested to see Carmel travel to a FAME competition where there aren't any conservative judges that dont like choirs being innovative.

I really liked carmels show, Just not for GC.
That's all I'm gonna say.
Your thoughts?

Ugh, as always, it's a fiasco! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

A. I can assure you, darling unassociated Center Grove fans, it wasn't jealousy- hydraulic lifts really aren't that hard to come by. We have one, as do many other show choirs in the Midwest. Yeah, CG uses their lift effectively, my point was simply that they could have gone without it- many groups make minor and major changes to their shows to accomodate the spaces and rules they encounter when competing. I have no doubt a choir as accomplished as CG could do the same if they chose to.

B. The one time we competed against Center Grove, we did well. It also cost us over $8,000 to travel to Illinois for a one-day competition. We loved going out there and seeing new groups, but it is simply not feasible as an every-year occurence.

C. My POINT was that Keynotes can survive without Center Grove competing there every year- and the fact that they had to impose or enforce a rule that affected Center Grove's decision to compete there doesn't mean they're running themselves into the ground- and the existence of the rule does not mean that Center Grove could not have attended- they just chose not to because they did not wish to alter their show. Understandable, but hardly something Keynotes should be shamed for, don't you think?

Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me for giving information that was told to me. I am sure Show Stoppers will survive without CG, but the fact is CG and the director loved going to this venue.

As for the lift comment? Jealousy does not become you!

Oh by the way, CGSS won the mixed competition at Fame in Orlando! And they did it with a LIFT!

Center Grove had signed up to go to ShowStoppers as they have a long tradition of supporting KeyNote Arts. Disney has a company that requires railings to be on certain things , etc... Both the Debs and SS had their shows configured when they found out their sets would not work on the Disney stage. They had to bow out and instead, went to Fame. These rules are imposed by Disney, not KeyNote Arts.
Of course, ShowStoppers will survive w/out CG, however, it was unfortuante as CG has always gone there, even when others stopped going and supporting them.
As far as their lift, why do you care? They use it in an effective way, and I don't think your group is ever around here competeing or should I say, competing against CG in an effective way.
There again, before anyone gets excited, let me say I have been a fan of CG for along time and truly think they are one of the best groups out there with entertaining shows and amazing skill. I also think other groups are good too.
So, Good Luck to everyone snce another year is coming to a close.

I hate to get off topic, but did you guys read the same response from Ana that I did? I didn't sense any jealousy and I can't recall a single post where Ana has badmouthed Center Grove. Suffering from hyper-defensive much?

Scott, Showstoppers got rid of most of those old rules. They used to have railings on most things on stage anyway, so I'm not sure what's new about that?

As for them trying to "ruin" themselves, it seems they had more competitors this year than they did last year, and I know they've already got some groups lined up for next season. I think they'll survive without Center Grove- just as CG probably would have without their lift.

because any change in scoring that would cause Center Grove to lose would obviously be a travesty.

I second that interest, What rules? because i remember Showstoppers used to have some REALLY inconvenient rules... Something about Tape lines you couldn't cross after your done setting up? i dont really remember...

Showstoppers has strict rules, but the new ones are you have to have railings on steps on anything. This would not work for the CG Debtones show or the lift Sound system uses.

It sounds like the Showstoppers organization is trying to ruin itself. Sound System had a six year winning streak going.

Oh well, it makes no difference. My friend from Sound System called and said they were in first place at the end of the day session. Hopefully, Fame won't add an extra judge like Pike did that caused CGSS to lose.

Center Grove is competing at Fame in Orlando. This is their first time competing at Fame, I believe. They would have gone to Showstoppers, but because of the new rules, they declined.

By the way, CG Debtones won the Single-Gender division on Friday, and CG Singers won the concert choir division. Way to go Center Grove!

Good luck to CG SoundSystem today! Make it a clean sweep!
