I'll agree that NC's First half of the show Amazing. The second half was short of the 1st half. Now Carmel's I think really was great at the end. I think Carmel had a well deserved GC.

I think if I were a judge I would have had the top 6 as NC, Carmel, FC, Ben Davis, WC, DeKalb

Carmel- Great job! I loved talking to you guys. You guys were awesome I loved your show and you really were some of the nicest people.

Ok I was a little suprised that NC didn't win. I really had NO clue who was going to get 2nd-6th. This competition was so even. I think that ISSMA really values more traditional styles.

As for FC placing so low I think the only reason is maybe the judges went to Ball State and got mad you left them out. lol But I was suprised you were in the bottom 6.

My Favorites of the Day have to be NC, Carmel, Ben Davis, and DeKalb.

I was there yesterday and my personal opinion was this:

GC: North Central
1RU: Huntington North
2RU: Warren Central
3RU: Carmel
4RU: Ben Davis
5RU: Dekalb

It was a little off as far as I was concerned. I was completely shocked that North Central didn't take this one. But I guess that's why I'm not a judge. But I do hear that it was veeeeeeery close. As in 7 points between 6 and 1. And as far as Franklin Central goes ... yes they have had a veeery successful season and I've seen them multiple times. However, yesterday their show didn't have the usual energy and power that it usually does. Even with that said I hear they were only .4 points behind Dekalb. So congratulations to everyone involved. Definately an entertaining day.

North Central

Your show is truly amzing. Your opener is breath-taking. Your ballad is so freaking powerful. Your closer is innovative. You guys are truly the best in the state. Carmel is good, yes. But, when you ask any show choir from outside of indiana "When you hear the words 'Indiana show choirs' which one comes to your mind first?" Im pretty sure that North central is the first to come up. You guys truly are the best.

best of luck to you at FAME and show attache what Indiana is all about!!

I agree that it does seem really fishy when Carmel wins almost every award for State when they obviously didn't have their show together at MIC. I am in no way saying that it is rigged, but for one to win is great, two to win...kinda awkward.

congratulations to all the finalists at state. talk about one of the most difficult competitions ever.
top three spots were very equal.

Carmel - congratulations on another win. you guys brought your A game. Good luck in the coming years!

North Central
- great show as usual...like someone mentioned earlier, that opener is incredible and should be recorded. i know the closer wasn't the BEST it could be, BUT it was very original. Actually, the entire show was original...like nothing I'd ever seen. The male soloist in the ballad was outstanding.

Huntington North - WOW. Having to go second and still getting third?! Amazing. Congratulations on an impecable show. Your show is so classy. And your vocals!?!?! INCREDIBLE. I don't know how you didn't win Best Vocals.

All groups performing were very good. Congrats to all groups. Plainfield, you guys pumped up your show and were absolutely wonderful. Granted, I am only a parent and do not claim to know the judging criteria but you guys were in my top 6. Let us now focus on our road trip to Branson! Again, congrats to all groups. Huntington North, you guys blew me away too.

I wasn't there, as I was working as well, but I still feel the need to chime in here.

Has anyone noticed that every single comment about North Central's show is just praising the opener, and nothing else? Sure it's amazing, but what about the rest of the show?

It's because the show falls completely flat after the opener. People are being blindsided by the powerful opener and not really focusing on the rest of the show. Their show is very overrated this year. I always enjoy watching "Counterpoints" but I just don't think this was their year to win state.

Other than that, it's not surprising to see Carmel win. They had a bad performance at MIC and I was surprised they even made finals there. At the same time, their issues at MIC were very technical in nature and probably relatively easy to fix, so it's not that shocking that they were able to pull off a victory.

Plainfield... what happened? Tenth in visuals? That's very interesting.

I'm interested in hearing from an unbiased person in attendance why Franklin Central didn't place, although I fully expect nothing but "Unassociated" people crying foul.

Either way, March 29th will be VERY interesting.

Jay,

Did you go to the comp? if so what were your placements? Yes, i know what can happen, But FC has been consistantly outstanding this year... If they had a bad show then fine, they had a bad show... It happens, Thats what i'm trying to find out... Because i've been at the last 3 state contests and each time i thought the results were a little funny...

I just want to know Judges (other then Eklund)... then some things might make sense...

i believe the bolded portion answers nearly any question, to some degree, without another response. the ISSMA score sheet invites extremely subjective judging, so it's hardly surprising that the results of the state contest are consistently inconsistent, so to speak.

I swear to GOD that I am not being biased.
North Central Should have won.
Carmel was FIFTY times better than at MIC when they got 5th, but not the best in the state.
NC was so innovative, and seriously there was NOT A DULL MOMENT in the whole show besides their closer, and although that is on of the most important parts of a show, the rest of the show trumped it.
Their opener sound EXACTLY the same as the 100 some professionals singing the "300" movie's Oh Fortuna.
Carmel's tapping was fantastic and ofcourse their costumes were GORGEOUS!
I would really be interested to see Carmel travel to a FAME competition where there aren't any conservative judges that dont like choirs being innovative.

I really liked carmels show, Just not for GC.
That's all I'm gonna say.
Your thoughts?

i agree totally judges see certain things that spark interests and i guess they didnt understand

Maybe it just wasn't their day.... Maybe the judges favored other shows. Maybe the other groups stepped up today and FC didnt... Scott there are many reasons why results happen just like I have told you before. This has been a surprising season of results. Most results have had at least one shocker. It happens.

Like I said before all I know is Dr. Pete Eklund was a judge here.

You can't tell me FC won 4 Grand Championships this year, ALL in indiana. Beating Ben Davis, Dekalb, Carmel, Lawrence Central, and Warren Central, and NOT by small margins either, And they don't even Place in the top 6 here? whats the deal...

Preferrably an answer from someone who is fairly unbiased??

I was absolutely SHOCKED that Franklin Central didn't get top 6. I just don't get it!
I think North Central should have gotten GC. they are just outstanding this year.

For Plainfield we were very sad. 3rd in vocals but 10th in visuals

But for other groups congrats, Especially to Huntington North and North Central.

I don't know, but I hope someone who went to the competition is the one to answer your question. Maybe other groups really stepped it up. Who knows?

On a side note, I'm pretty upset that my work scheduled me to come in for a 9 1/2 hour shift and CLOSE today when I asked for the 15th off two months ago. Grrrrrrrrrrr......
