I have to complement North Central for their classy behavior. When the first runner-up was announced, it was understood that North Central were the grand champions. But the two representatives onstage didn't get excited. They politely clapped and waited for their name to be announced, even after the grand champion trophy was brought out. I was impressed!

And congratulations to North Central on their win!

Everyone else did a great job, too. I really hope I get to see so many awesome shows again!

as for dekalb- they are really clean...but at the same time they are a show choir year round and have been working on their set since summer

I've seen Dekalb preform completely different sets in the fall, so i don't think they start working on their comp. show till december or january.

So back on topic, Ben Davis was a great competition and I had a blast!!! Great job to all the choirs competing and a hats off to the mixed and women's finalists!

Congratulations to North Central for starting out the year so well. Keep up the good work and good luck with the rest of the season.

Alsood luck to all the choirs that competed! I hope your seasons go well and this year is a memorable experience.

Now, let's move on to another topic about competitions this week, instead of dwelling in the past and arguing.

Good luck everyone and have a great rest of the season!!

As far as this topic and how long it has been going on, I think people should be allowed to keep stating their opinions as long as they desire but should do it in a reasonable manner because there is no reason why that can't happen. And as far as opinions go, THAT is all it is. So there really is no need to argue opinions at all. Of course there is always room for discussion but that should be it. If you can't discuss without getting an attitude or you can't handle reading opinions for that matter without feeling attacked, offended, ect., then don't read them at all. Lastly, when it comes to clinton and NC, clinton is a show choir just like anyone else, and I am sure they just like everyone else have cleaning to do. NC and clinton are very different indeed in my opinion. Also, I think that when it comes to just being strong all around, I think in my opinion, they are very close BUT at the same time, they are very different, so I guess it all depends on the competition and the judges. So anything could happen. AGAIN this all just opinion. And there is nothing wrong with that. So anyways, just because people give their opinion, because opinions will be negative sometimes, people should not right off the bat jump down someone's throat making just irrational comebacks. As I have said before, just take the opinions as just opinions and for face value and either DISCUSS or just move on because if you can't then you really have no business getting into it.

cp started ours in january

as for attache- im pretty sure they are only a show choir as well...and its pretty easy to clean when everyone is within 3 inches of eachother and within the same weight range

what does either of those have to do with anything? NC is always around 3 inches of each other too ... so don't be pointing fingers at Clinton if you, yourself, do the exact same thing ... and just as an observation, but Clinton, despite being within 3 inches of each other, still actually DANCE more than NC does ... and as far as the weight thing goes, does that really matter? sure, not all weght ranges can do exactly the same choreography, but making something clean doesn't have anything to do with having weight or not having weight ... oh, and just a side reference, Clinton didn't get their full choreography until after october and still are as clean as they are ... thank you

That's not what I was referring to. I was talking about the people that are quoting me out of context and "firing back" towards something that didn't exist in the first place.

For example: the person that insinuated I wanted all choirs to be the same, or that I thought none of the caption awards were deserved, etc.

I welcome any feedback, questions, or debate (via PM, as this particular issue has gone on ad nauseum)... if I didn't, I sure as hell wouldn't post my opinions in a public forum.

I'd rather not sugarcoat everything, but thanks for the advice.
The trend here of taking everything I say out of context and attacking me based on that is getting so nauseating. I'll tell you what I've told everyone else, read what I said and stop looking for arguments that don't exist. I never said DeKalb didn't deserve Best Visuals, and I never said North Central didn't deserve Best Vocals.

If anyone wants to talk more about this, PM me or get my AIM from my profile. I didn't mean to derail the discussion about Ben Davis' contest.

Well not to drive this any deeper into the ground...but if you are going to be that head strong with your opinions about show choirs...you need to be ready for people to "fire back" and defend their own choirs against your statements. You have told us to all reread your post...but maybe you should reread them yourself and look at it from a different perspective.

Ben Davis was an awesome competition and all of the kids did a great job! The placements and awards were all rightfully given out...now lets all just get ready for any suprises that may lay ahead this weekend.

Come on! This post was just mean-spirited! Don't attack the students opinions or thoughts of their show. Say what you have to say respectfully and if you can't then don't post! It just seems somewhat immature and arbitrary to go after the students b/c they they believe in their ability, potential, and their show. State your thoughts and opinions but don't be rude!

I was not the least bit surprised that Dekalb won the Visuals caption and I wasn't surprised that NC was vocals. Dekalb has a history of strong choreography and visual performance. They've already competed 2 or 3 times this year thus probably making them cleaner on the contest stage. They SHOULD'VE won that caption! Hence, NC has a history of strong vocal performance and once they get cleaner they will no doubt be challenging for choreography captions too!

That's not completely subjective at all, right? Most people agree DeKalb wasn't impressive, but they were less than 10 points away from stealing it. Oh, and the Best Visuals caption... who got that again? If North Central can't compete with DeKalb in Visuals, I think it's a little lofty to compare them to Clinton. Sure your show will get better - I don't doubt that - but so will all the other groups.

Keep telling yourself your show is original just because you have two krumpers in silver costumes. Maybe the judges will show up, fresh off an Ecstasy binge, and find it halfway entertaining. I doubt it, but anything is possible. Realistically, the "uniqueness" of the show won't get you very far in the long run. (Hint: Justin Timberlake and "unique show" is a non sequitur)
I think you might be reading into this a little too much. What if Jason Johnson and John Wenning went to North Central, or Pat Weihe and Brent Holland went to Huntington North? When it comes down to it, it's just a group of 20-30 high school students from the Midwest and nothing more. DeKalb can break the mold without drastically altering their style, a lot of groups do it every year.

It boils down to who wants it bad enough. Your right, ANYTHING is POSSIBLE. If you go into a competition, or life for that matter, with a defeated mindset then you will be defeated. However, if you approach a competition (or life) with the determination that "I can do anything I put my mind to" the you are already a winner. Be Confident in what you bring to the table! The Sky is the limit! Remember that at the end of the day, you are doing what you love to do, and that is singing and dancing!
God Bless!

I agree. I definitely agree.
