I don't agree. Yes, North Central is not nearly as clean as Clinton right now, but if we do fix our issues, i think we have the potential to beat them not only because our vocals may be stronger than clinton's but also because the style of our show is so unique--something the judges will like. I could see it going either way. It's all about the judges preferences.
That's not completely subjective at all, right? Most people agree DeKalb wasn't impressive, but they were less than 10 points away from stealing it. Oh, and the Best Visuals caption... who got that again? If North Central can't compete with DeKalb in Visuals, I think it's a little lofty to compare them to Clinton. Sure your show will get better - I don't doubt that - but so will all the other groups.

Keep telling yourself your show is original just because you have two krumpers in silver costumes. Maybe the judges will show up, fresh off an Ecstasy binge, and find it halfway entertaining. I doubt it, but anything is possible. Realistically, the "uniqueness" of the show won't get you very far in the long run. (Hint: Justin Timberlake and "unique show" is a non sequitur)

It is not Dekalb...that is not them. I would not like to see Huntington N. try to do a North Central show...why? It is not Huntington N's style.

I think you might be reading into this a little too much. What if Jason Johnson and John Wenning went to North Central, or Pat Weihe and Brent Holland went to Huntington North? When it comes down to it, it's just a group of 20-30 high school students from the Midwest and nothing more. DeKalb can break the mold without drastically altering their style, a lot of groups do it every year.

I sure hope so. It'd be nice to see a great NC victory of Attache.

Okay, so I have read all of these commets that people have posted about certain groups doing the same thing every year "same old same old" or "cookie cutter from years past"....but let me post one thing. Everyone out here has their own opinion and I respect that because I myself am head strong about my opinion but I know that the ONE year that one of these groups such as: Findlay, Huntington N., Dekalb, or Mt. Zion (to name some) does something "different" or "breaks the mold" that is totally off the wall for them...everyone is going to flip out and wonder why they did something different and we are all going to be complaining about how "we don't like their show" and that "they need to go back to what they did a few years ago." Here it is plain and simple...the director does what works best for their show choir. I would not like to see Dekalb do a Findlay style show...why? It is not Dekalb...that is not them. I would not like to see Huntington N. try to do a North Central show...why? It is not Huntington N's style. Everyone is so opinionative about groups but guess what...the director knows what is best for their group. For all of those people out there that have ALL of these great ideas that groups should do to "break the mold"...you know what...become a show choir director and show us...don't just sit there and put down the groups/directors that are already out there putting on great shows. That is my opioion...

Well said. Thanks

No... even if they fixed their issues from Ben Davis I just don't think they'll be strong enough to give Clinton a run for their money.

Clinton might be on a similiar level as North Central as far as vocals, but visually Clinton is several levels above North Central.

Okay, good opinion. But just to let you know from my standpoint, no I am not putting what their directors and choirs do. Becuase if u can remember oh so well, I stated that THEY Do their own shows very well.. And I did also state in my opinion that WC did a traditional show and did it very well, but I just liked when WC different shows everyyear. Which in my opinion they do. And show choirs like center grove and dekalb do have their own trademarks when it comes to their shows and YES it works for them but YES I would like to see them do something different, And not even shows that other choirs have done. Something completely different becuase also in my opinion I think they would be the choirs to do quite well at pulling it off. Take Lawrence Central for example, there are years that I have seen them and they come out and are very traditional, yes? Okay then other years they do something different, whether it be completely where other choirs have not done it or others have done it but LC puts something else out there to make it their own. That's all I was saying. ANd NO I can tell u from ME that I wouldn't complain and I know this for a fact that I wouldn't if those choirs would do something different. So there you go. I am not putting them down, the choirs or the directors. I respect their choirs and the directors for what they do. SO please don't take and opinion and right off the bat saying that someone is putting these choirs down. Now I can't speak for everyone else who have had the same opinion as me. But I KNOW that I am not putting anyone down. Becuase assuming is just going to start arguments. Just take what the opinion is for face value, not necessarily negative feedback.

...huh?

-I never said I wanted all choirs to be the same. In fact, I said DeKalb should break the mold.

-I don't know how 'Findlay' and North Central got dragged into the mix, I think they're both amazing groups.

-I never said anything about Simon Cowell.

Re-read what I said and try to make a little more sense when you reply. I'll be happy to explain anything I've said.

Thanks!

I went to this competition and was alittle surprised.

NC: There were three things that impressed me the most about u guys. Opener "Flawless" to me anyways, you guys were like a freakin army up there. So intense and in the face and I love it, So powerful. The ballad: I was balling, the soloist was gorgeous and so passionate. And the my favorite the Crumping..lol that was so fun. To end on a good note, yes there were several people that werent as impressed with your show this year as past ones but I still love how you can go from O fortuna to some crumping and some pop with a powerhouse beautiful ballad to the closer where it was also different. I would have like to seen all the guys in the guys number but the beat-boxin acapella act was cute. You guys really entertained me.

Dekalb: I have to agree, I would like to see something different from you guys just as I would to see from Center Grove. I know you guys have your own trademarks when it comes to doing your shows every year but it would just be fun to see something different to show more versatility from you. All in all though, I think you guys have improved tremendously with the vocals in comparison to previous years. Great energy and great entertaining facials.

FC: Loved LOVED the second number. Very sexy. Great personalities on stage. So confident and fierce. But as for the show in general, I was expecting more I guess, just because I haven't seen u in awhile, and the last time I did see you, I was completely blown away. BUT great job!

Highland: Wasn't really that impressed. When I heard that you guys were doing some Michael Jackson stuff, I really was expecting it to be WOW. Becuase highland did Michael Jackson back in 99 or 2000 I believe and it was phenomenol, but not take away from the credit that u guys received becuase your show was still strong considering you were smaller. LOVED the ballad. So passionate and heartfelt. Beautiful. Great soloists too!

WC: Great job with the vocals. Always so strong. I would have placed you higher for sure. You guys are always so passionate as well with your performances. Although I really wanted you guys to put on a different type of show as you do every year. This year was very traditional and you did it very well don't get me wrong but I really enjoy when you guys come out being very unique from everyone else and still blowing people away. Great job!

]DeKalb "Classic Connection"[/b]: Meh... it was a typical DeKalb show. Good choreography, so-so vocals, same stuff for the past several years. Not great, but not bad. I really wish DeKalb would experiment with a different choreographer or do something to break the mold. There's an extreme amount of potential in the program and it's just not being actualized.

Wouldn't the 18 or so hours that you're at a competition be boring if everyone did the same type of show? Be glad there are show choirs like DeKalb, Findley, North Central etc., or there would be alot of boredom.
I personally could not see DeKalb or any of the others mentioned doing another style of show. What they do they all do very well. And as for the Simon Cowell comment, I have always been glad that there was only one of him. I sucks to know that there are now 2.

Wow...hop off the bitter train will ya? I just said the show was forgettable...which is something Simon Cowell has said to people before so I felt the need to reference it. And, I did say that I hated that I had to refer to him. So maybe next time instead of blazing through the comments and picking out two words to be mad about, read the context of the two words.

And the person you quoted wasn't saying DeKalb was bad or they hated watching them. It was just predictable. That's fine that you love DeKalb, but realize that comment like mine and theirs aren't bashing. They are just opinions.

Are we the judges? No. Is the internet a public forum in which we are allowed to express our opinions and reactions? Yes.

It was even closer at CG, which was interesting, because everyone thought that this was going to be a much more cutthroat competition.
I can't believe Zionsville didn't even make finals.
WHOA.
Congrats to DeKalb on a great show : )
