all i have to say about that is, you have no time on your hands do ya? i've talked to alot of ppl about this competition and nobody has seemed to agree with the results, but i'm done with this.

You are right, I normally do have very little time on my hands. If those people you talked to were actually there they can think whatever they want....but you have no room at all to say you don't agree with the results of a competition you didn't even go to.

So you didn't need to be there to know how well the groups performed? Why even bother having the event? Or any competition? We'll just have the groups make videos at the start of February and mail them to everyone and judge the groups that way. Every single competition is different. My Freshman year Hurricane best us by 30 points...two weeks later we beat them by 5...they got us by 1.5 a few weeks later a states. Every single competition is different.

Just because it was their best show doesn't mean they all improved by the same amount.

i didn't need to be there, i've seen the groups. and if everyone had their best performance then it should have panned out differently.

you weren't there...I have no issues with people posting their thoughts as long as they have were actually at the event in question. Poca was the second best vocal group of the day IMO.

st. albans, nitro, and martinsburg all sing better than poca, always have. and over half the vocal pts make up the placings

every group you listed gave the best show I'd seen them give this year...if you weren't there you can't judge the results. The fight for second was really between Poca and Martinsburg IMO

this competition was a big shocker when i read the results.

i've seen all the choirs except cabell midland and in my opinion. it would have went..
hurricane
martinsburg (heard they improved greatly)
nitro
poca
st. albans
but i did give poca the benefit of the doubt because they were hosting, that always comes into favor as well.

Oh, man that sucks. That's honestly what I feared after she didn't get up.

yeah after she wasn't even able to walk off stage I figured it was that or a tear of some kind...best wishs to her, hate to see things like that happen.

The young lady did break her leg after falling off the box. We are all hoping and praying that she has a quick and problem free recovery.

The Best Female Soloist was Rachel Krall from Hurricane. This is Rachel's fourth award for best female soloist this year. She won at Cuyahoga, Twinsburg and Fairfield as well. Needless to say we are all very proud of her!

Martinsburg had a few people here and there that were a little bit off with what they were doing...that is what cost them best choreography I think.

Poca deserved it for sure, they were great yesterday. I thought they could could have won the band award too, Martinsburg was a little out of tune in a few spots

All the choirs yesterday did an AWESOME job. I was very happy to see a quality states competition. I thought the placements were very accurate, though I could've seen Martinsburg and Poca flip flop.

Here are some of my thoughts (for the sake of the post, I'm only going to do the top 5):

St. Albans - Your show definitely had one of the more interesting concepts of the day. I understand that you removed a good portion of your show from some of the previous competitions and from what I've heard, it worked for the better. While I like the concept, I thought that the projection screens were just a little too much, and when one would stop working, I was more focused on that than the show choir. But it was a solid vocal performance as we've come to expect from SA, and I really enjoyed the closer.

Nitro - This was the second time I saw your show this year and it has definitely come a long way (and I thought it was good the first time I saw it). Vocally, I've never really seen a group improve so much from year to year. I'm not a huge fan of the opener but you perform it very well. I really thought that you, Martinsburg, and Poca all had a decent shot at 2nd, and I was actually pretty surprised when you didn't get a superior rating. That being said, I'm excited to see what you all have in store for the upcoming years, as I really think Nitro is going to be a contender!

Martinsburg - You never disappoint at States. I don't know if it was your riser set up or something, but I felt like there were a hundred people on the stage, it was an impressive sight to see. As usual, you had a stellar showcase of choreography. I enjoy the "hands" thing, but at times, it could get a little sloppy, especially if you just listened to the hands, or viewed the choir from an angle so you could see multiple rows doing it. I honestly could've seen you getting second this year and congratulations on a well-deserved superior rating.

Poca - WOW! I saw you guys at MusicFest and it was like yesterday was a completely different choir. There was so much energy out there, and since you guys were the first "big" choir to really go on all day, it was a very impressive showcase. I don't know what you guys did, but that was awesome. I felt like sometimes the band could overpower the vocals, especially as the show was getting near the end. You really rocked it out yesterday. Congrats, of course, go to Mr. Kincaid and all the fine work he's done.

Hurricane - Congrats on your fifth-straight state title! I honestly thought you guys were maniacs yesterday. The energy and execution were definitely the best I've seen all year. Over the year, it seems like the vocals tend to wear off by the time the closer hits, but not yesterday. The biggest complaint I have is it seemed like there was a soprano close to the microphone that was almost pushing the choir sharp at times? I always love seeing the States' version of Hurricane every year and you guys really did yourselves justice. Congrats on number six!

I've gotta say, I'm really surprised with the results. I wasn't there, but I have seen Hurricane, Poca and Nitro at other competitions this season. I'm mostly surprised Poca beat Nitro. Just an opinion.

Congrats to everyone!

almost everything about this competition was wrong

but whatever will be will be

however at least half the choirs in competition know whats reality and whats just another ****ed over to add to the WVMEA history books. Congradulations to Hurricane YOU KNOW they deserved it however, i can't really give out any more praise to anyone else because the rest of the results don't do it for me.

i cant wait to watch next years competition unfold.

What exactly is so skewed about the results? By the way, does anyone know what happened with that girl from Cabell Midland that fell off the bottom riser. I heard that she broke her leg, but of course that is just hear-say. Whatever happened, our prayers are with her on a speedy recovery.

WOW! Great competition. Congrats to everyone. Funny enough, I called theresults PERFECTLY except for 4RU. Just a few brief thoughts:

Hurricane: Very big congrats on your GC. It was well-deserved and you guys put on a GREAT show. I thought you were very much improved from MusicFest (although you were very good there). The vocals were stepped up a notch, as was the choreography. Awesome job and congrats on your Grand Championship! I had you where you placed, as Grand Champions.

Poca: AWESOME job! You guys really stepped it up today. I'm glad that you guys gave it all that you have and performed like I know you really can. Best showing of the year, and just in time. Way to go out, seniors. I know that this meant a lot to you all. Very big congrats on your 1st Runner Up. Also, congrats to Kincaid. It's a long, tough year and I'm glad you got rewarded for it. I had you placed 2nd/3rd (one of the two).

Martinsburg: I LOVED your show. It was very well executed, especially the dancing. Like someone above my post said, I knew that it was either you guys or Hurricane taking home choreography. Like the award shows, your band was top notch and your instrumental soloist that won was great as well. Just as a little side not, "Vehicle" was awesome! I had you 2nd/3rd.

Nitro: You guys had a great season. The show this year is great. I know everyone was disappointed to place so low, but keep your heads up, you did a great job performing and are most definately one of the top groups in the state. From what I understand, there aren't many seniors so most of you all will be back. I expect to see the program grow in power in the near future. I had you 4th.

St. Albans: Well, you guys performed your show well. The only thing I really have to say, though, is that it was a little depressing. The first three songs were pretty bleak as far as light-heartedness goes, but then the closer came back into the light a little bit. It was performed well, its just that it was a wierd concept and I didn't really get into it. I had you 6th.

Cabell Midland: You guys put on a really good show today. You have improved greatly from MusicFest. I really enjoyed it and thought that it was executed and sang well. I know everyone was upset about the placement, but you have nothing to be upset over. You did a great job performing it and there's nothing to be ashamed of. I had you 5th.

Preston: For a choir of 15 people total, you guys were one of the most entertaining that I have EVER seen. You had 200% of the crowd behind you and everyone was rolling in laughter. VERY WELL done. I loved the Sonny and Cher bit and then the guys solo song. One thing that you guys did that I thought was great was crowd interaction. Great job. By the way, how many years has Preston had a show choir, b/c I don't think that I have ever seen you all before.

So, just as a re-cap. My placements were:

GC: Hurricane
1RU: Poca/Martinsburg
2RU: Poca/Martinsburg
3RU: Nitro
4RU: Cabell Midland
5RU: St. Albans

Finally, I want to shout out again to my old school P-O-C-A! Great job on your 1RU and congrats on getting the closure that you wanted, seniors! Take care everyone! -BRETT
