That is the coolest thing ever. I didn't even know they did that. Where did you find it?

Found it on your website www.hastingschoirs.org bought my DVD and watched it all again. Have some favorites from it. I really really like Millenium's Earth ballad.
It was unique and awesome. Friend de Coup's Disturbia is one of the best I have ever seen. Your vocals and presentation were amazing.
RIG's Freak song was brilliant and oh so entertaining. My favorite closer was Hastings'. The Choreo and props were second to none..
Chairs with headlghts and the energy just drew you in right until the end. This is a great DVD!

Just want to say, I love their choreography for Jai Ho! I've seen so many groups take the movies choreography and simply do that, and it was great to see a new interpretation on it.

WOW! Thanks so great to hear that! i appreciate the feedback... it was important to me to put my own spin on it, so glad you liked it!

TELL ME ABOUT IT! I was not happy when I found out they were dancing in pants and zip-up hoodies for JAI HO! It just didn't fit with any of the choreo I did...oh well!

Nice to finally meet you by the way!!!

It was very nice to meet you, if only for a few seconds.

I have been meaning to get a post on here a little early than now, but better late than never, I guess! :D
It was very different to see a competition as an alum... it was my first one. Do I ever miss it!
I was stunned by how many groups of such high caliber were here. Congratulations to everyone on some fantastic shows!

To all of the soloists: There was a phenomenal improvement in almost every singer from pre-lims to finals. Congrats on that. Also: Congratulations to Chase from Harmonia Mundi, you certainly earned best male solo. You were great!

Harmonia Mundi: I loved your guys' number: great attitude

Connection: Your guys are SO strong this year. Their number was so clean, and they have such rich tone!!! As I watched your choir in finals, I could tell you were really going for it and giving it all you had; that made the show VERY fun to watch!

RIG: In Man in the Mirror, the small group of guy dancers got much cleaner for finals, and was impressive once it got cleaaned up: good job! I loved how your attitude matched the lyrics in The Good Life: I could tell you meant it! And the female vocals in Dreamer improved SO much from pre-lims to finals: it blew me away!

FDC
Stephen Todd Choreo... need I say more?
You all just had a wall of sound with great control over the soft dynamics, too...
Your ballad just blew me away. I can't even elaborate on this. Congratulations: it was my favorite number of the day.
Great improvement on guys' diction in their number. It was fun to watch and easy to understand in finals!
Love girls' last costume

Millenium: Loved the addition of fog for Earthsong in finals. Earthsong is such a beautiful piece to begin with, and your group added so much emotion and beauty. Great change between prelims and finals, taking all the foot noise out of the end of Earthsong. Dhoom is such a fun piece, and you did it so well. I loved the set as a whole. The final dance break in Where's the Party Tonight. All of the crossing over was great. You guys really were a nice surprise!!! Congrats!

And, Totino. I heard you were fantastic this year, and I was prepared to pick apart your show. I couldn't. It was the best show I have ever seen, and it was SO FUN to watch. You have a show that is phenomenal from a judge's standpoint as well as a spectator's. Congratulations on a much-deserved win!!!

I am so glad I was able to attend this comp, and want to repeat how impressed I was by all of the groups competing.

He was not at Hastings... he was at Great River. So anything implied is obviously not what was meant. Chris hasn't seen Hastings live this year, so he would not know that they were wearing that, let alone the only group at this competition to wear it. He was simply making a generalized statement.

If anything he was talking about Linn-Mar "In-Step".... their Jai Ho sweatshirts are soooo big on them, so they do look frumpy... Too bad after wearing those GORGEOUS green dresses.

The only group that had a costume change that had jeans were the Hastings girls - no hoodies - a red jacket. Are you implying that they looked frumpy??

Jeans certainly do not look "frumpy"; lots of groups wear them and pull them off very well. I think what she was getting at is if a group came out with jeans and sweatshirts on, the judges might have a few problems with the costuming (depending on how well they go with said number).

I have a few issues with your posts, but I'm not going to get into them because I don't want to say something I'll regret nor give my old show choir a bad rep by casting them in a bad light with an inappropriate post. Just know that you should make sure to try and have the courtesy to be polite and, if you want to be critical, do so as long as it's constructive.

Just an FYI... i am a guy, its blessing i'm not a woman, i'd be flat broke all the time.

That honestly goes a long way. Much better then wearing jeans and hoodies while perfoming that can make everyone look frumpy. The one thing i can always count on from Totino are beautiful clothes!

Sorry to hear our friend from Onalaska didn't like the ballad... might be the only person in show choir not to appreciate it? Quote of the day, for me, was a gentleman from North St. Paul who said "that les mis ballad is Broadway caliber." And the closer being "over the top?" With four Grand Championships this year, I guess the judges don't agree? Also, I thought Waukee and Mitchell were absolutely fantastic and we really, really enjoyed their shows. It was a really fun competition with some of the best shows I've seen all year.

Totinos gals are very pretty but I'm wondering if they have a weight limit because there were no full-sized girls to be seen in the whole group.

While I'm sure our girls would be incredibly flattered to hear this, I can assure you our program has not ever had a weight limit, nor do we now. We happily take any students from Totino-Grace who want to sing and dance into our program.

We as a staff work incredibly hard to put each group in costumes that flatter the wide variety of sizes and shapes we have each year, and we have gotten great costumes from Gail McInnis this season.

We are also very blessed to be working with April James, who knows how to choreograph women in a way that compliments their assets and make them look feminine and strong while dancing, and with students who carry themselves with confidence and grace.

this whole weight limit thing, so not true. our group doesn't have a weight, height or anything limit. believe me, when you practice so much, you lose weight, and our dresses are flattering and that helps us all to look better. just saying it to stop the rumors.

also, the ice skaters are in the show because we are celebrating our 20th aniversary show and so we brought it back from the fire and ice show years ago.

After driving almost 3 hours I made it just in time to see finals.
Waukee and Mitchell, amazing and they have the total package-great vocals and clean, difficult choreo that was superbly delivered.
Hastings' exhibition was astounding. What energy and vocals and what a great ending to a great competition. Your venue and school are incredible.
Totino's vocals are perfect. Their choreo was fun but at time I felt like I would go cross-eyed with so much going on at the same time.
The ballad was beautiful but so many soloists at the same time was enough to give some a headache.
Can you say over the top for the closing number?? Ice skaters! I was fully expecting Geoffrey from Toys r US to come on in galloping and sing along with the I Don't want to Showoff number, of course he would be singing I don't want to grow up.

I guess Waukee surprised a lot of people. None of the predictions had them in second place. Millennium, way to go!

And Friend de Coup- I LOVED your show. You guys were absolutely wonderful and so much fun to watch.

As always, Company of Singers, a HUGE congratulations to you guys. I'm sure I can speak for all of Riverside in say that we fully and completely love all of you (:

Great job to all the competing show choirs yesterday. That was definitely one of my most favorite Swingin' on the Rivers.
